Both are light-hearted with nice colour palettes, set close to the ocean, and about a friendship between a human and a fish taking the form of a human (strange as that sounds) They're both nice and short to watch when you feel down, though Tsuritama is a 12 episode series while GUP is only a movie.

They're both comedic pokes at the shoujo genre and the cliches it holds, and I feel like they're both hugely appreciated by their watchers. They're light-hearted and easy to watch, and the humour is (in my opinion) top notch in both shows.

Both series are about a group of people with supernatural powers, that we get introduced to through the main character, a new member in the group. The humour and soundtrack are similar, and both are gorgeously animated.
