You Are My Regret is written by Shimesaba...the same mastermind that gave us the magnum opus that is Higehiro.

After reading the first 2 volumes (almost done with the second), I can say it has a pretty unique story. Most romance stories focus on building up to the relationship, and fans get excited when a manga or anime "does something different" by focusing on the relationship instead...like in Ore Monogatari (My Love Story). And there are the readers/viewers who get excited when we get an adult romance (like Wotakoi) instead of a high school romance.

You Are My Regret doesn't change up our usual route with ... either of those two methods. Instead, it focuses on a relationship that has already crashed and burned in the past. We get some glimpses here of the types of scenes that unfolded in the past. But a lot of the focus is on the present and whether that past love can be reconciled and reignited. The gist of the story is that communication is key. We all know how important communication is, but these characters have to be REALLY straightforward to get their feelings across...even if it's embarrassing. I enjoy that and think it's a good message.

There are love triangles. Some people hate that. I enjoy it. And there's a lot of rain to set each scene...too much rain. Sometimes I enjoy it. Sometimes it feels too forced.

If you're iffy about light novels, volume 1 started off with a lot of 5-6 page chapters that were easy to binge. Eventually, the chapters feel like they reach closer to 10 pages each, but it's still easily digestable.

And I like at least two of the three female characters I've been introduced to so far. The main girl is really quirky. Maybe a bit too random and quirky. But it makes me interested in learning more about what's the deal with her. And some of the other girls have some really tragic life circumstances that don't seem too cliche as of yet.

I'm definitely looking forward to future volumes.

I watched the second season even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the first. And I gotta say....this was incredibly mid. BUT...the Sumi episodes were incredibly cute. Although Ruka was putting in some effort this season, I wish she would have put in more effort--especially the kind of effort that Sumi went for in the second to last episode. I also wish Mami were causing more drama or something...even when Mami does something...it doesn't really feel like she's doing anything. And we all know how everyone feels about the Chizuru thing, so...it is what it is. I gave it a 5/10 because of Sumi ... hard carrying in two episodes, otherwise I probably would have given it something lower.

I'm not sure that I can say this manga did anything particularly phenomenal. BUT...when I decided to read it, I was just looking for something cute, wholesome, and with relatively low text density. I basically wanted a quick, relaxing read to take a break from some of the more adventurous titles I've been getting into. And this manga did its job well for my tastes! So much so that I binged all 62 chapters. For the record, some chapters are only 4 pages long, so it really is a quick easy read.

The story is about a prim and proper rich girl and a delinquent ... boy who develop feelings for one another. We get a few flashback chapters to show us their first chance encounter, which helps us see that they didn't just fall in love randomly. There are qualities that they came to appreciate in one another. And of course, you have scenes like your mandatory beach scene (in this case river scene) and probably other tropey moments...but sometimes that's what you're looking for.

I was teetering between an 8-9 overall without overanalyzing it because I know it met the criteria for what I happened to be looking for and decided to stick with a 9 because why not? If you want a quick, cute, wholesome read...it might knock it out of the park for you too.
