Shows with a powerful message about society & how humans interact with one another. Serious in tone, darker in themes, & it'll leave an impact about certain topics.

While Death Note follows two characters, Death Parade does the same thing with more existential themes. Death Parade isn't so much about outsmarting your opponent, but to ponder how society ended up in this predicament in the first place.

Bizarre, abstract anime with hard-to-follow plots. You're not sure what the anime is trying to say, but you can't stop watching. Maybe you hope it'll all "click" at some point.

Both shows are majorly dialogue-focused, have excellent shot composition, dense & foreshadowing conversations between characters, & an air of mystery. Both are also visually stunning and esoteric.

Both shows inflict emotional damage at regular intervals & aren't afraid of killing off their characters. Both shows have a song you'll never forget: Gurren Lagann has "Sorairo Days", Edgerunners has "I Really Want To Stay At Your House" There are more similarities, but they'd start to go into spoiler territory. It's a shame I can't mention it, as the most similar aspect between them is also the biggest spoiler.

Same vibe about demons lending their power to humans (at a cost), both have visually stunning animation, a god-tier OP, darker plot lines, & similar character dynamics: -Goofy & clueless main character, who becomes badass when he needs to be -Female side character who starts out annoying at first, then grows on you -Quiet & serious male side character carrying a lot of baggage, but opens up later on
