I had my doubts when I wanted to watch Fate. I didn't know which series to start with, I chose Fate/Stay Night and to this day i don't regret that choice, I think that way everything became clearer in my head.
Fate/Stay Night didn't become my favourite anime, but I consider it something worth watching.
95% of people I spoke with about the anime said Fate/Zero was a lot better than the previous.
High expectations usually generate bad results, isn't that right?
Without wanting to spoil anything, iI will try to explain the reason I disliked Fate/Zero:
✦The characters even though diverse, don't outshine those of Fate/stay Night. Non of
...
them was truly captivating to me. Saber, who is one of the strong points of Fate, doesn't become any more interesting or less prestiged in this anime, and since I already knew her, this became less irrelevant.
✦The action was lacking, and when there was any, it had no purpose in a story development stand point, "LETS FIGHT, LETS KILL EACH OTHER", and then, 5 minutes later they would simply go home and we would go back to zero.
✦There were a bunch of episodes with pointless dialogue that added nothing to the story. It was simply tedious.
I don't consider it a bad anime in the literal sense of the word, I just don't think it was as good or even superior to Fate/Stay Night and/or it surprised me in any way. The fault was mine for placing the anime on a pedestal, and the fall ended up beeing greater.
Obviously that watching Fate/stay Night and ignoring Fate/Zero is unthinkable if you really want to understand the story completely..
I still have hope that the second season is better.
