I like horror anime. I enjoy the thought process of a killer, or, in this case, a mysterious character who seems very dark and socially awkward. In this anime, I feel certain types of people will not enjoy every aspect of the show, but the large amount of those who enjoy such plot and characters will come to love Another. I don't think age is a problem, so long as this person is old enough to understand a fair amount of what is going on. I am 14, and me and my younger siblings enjoy this show very much, but also my older friends, who
...
recommended the show to me.
The story of the show might be difficult for viewers with a short attention span or are against death or "creepiness". Another is meant for people who can have an open mind for a wide variety of people and those that can put themselves in others' shoes. It was very interesting for me to watch the series and follow through to try to understand the mysteries of the show and characters. It pulled me in, being very fascinating, though I'm not much of a school-life anime fan, it was not the school portion that was taking place, but what was happening in their everyday lives, which just so happened to be at school. This was a very good choice of setting, since it allowed the main character to have relationships with many people. Overall, I was very pleased with the story.
Throughout Another, the art was very consistent. In some animes, art gradually gets better and more solid as the show goes on, going from good to better, but this show starts at better and stays the same as the story goes on. The art is not a "wow, this art is so good, I'm just going to ignore the entire storyline because who needs a story when the art is so good yada yada yada..." The art is not meant to be stunning, it's the story that should have the concentration, and not the art. This is why I gave is a 9, rather than a 10 or 8; because it was the best it could be to outline the story best, but was not exemplary art in itself.
There are many area in "sound". First, I will talk about the opening song. It is definitely in the "creepy" stereotype. It is, in a nutshell, like the Elfen Lied opening. There are many people who would dislike it for this reason. It is not the type of opening, such as the second Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu opening, in which I feel like dancing and singing to every time I hear it. I feel it thoroughly explains the main character Misaki Mei to an extent of understanding her feelings. This aside, I did not extraordinarily enjoy the soundtrack, it was just not trying to take you in, such as Baka to Test opening or the beautiful Fate/Zero openings. Though, this isn't the only part of the "sound" column. I very much enjoyed the Japanese voice acting crew, it was quite well done and suiting to the characters. I did not listen to the English dub crew, but I heard that they are quite good as well. Although, like the art, the sound was not as much to impress as to get the point around.
I loved the characters in this show. Character designs, such as clothes, hair styles, and stature were not very distinguishable between characters as a whole, but I found the personalities of each character very unique and constant throughout the story. There is not much to tell about the characters like it would be about Deadman Wonderland, but I believe looking at the characters in Another is a very important part in the story.
I very much enjoyed watching this show because I liked the constant edge. You understood everything the main character did, so you had to use a lot of empathy and really step into his shoes. I found tagging along with the story very fun and amusing, as I enjoyed the ships, too. ;)
For my overall score, I figured the mean of each of my ratings and got an 8. :D But... I figured it had an influence on my at the end and it really taught me several things throughout the story.
Thanks for reading! =w=
