Neon Genesis Evangelion, the anime with different meanings in every human conscience. I saw a lot of people, who never watched the anime, saying that the genre was just mecha, and if they don't like mechas they simply don't watch, but still (hopefully) exist people that try to watch, ignoring all the opinions in a way to form your own.
The synopsis is nice, you can take a base on it, but do no judge the history until end, or try to think the meaning of some episodes before stop suddenly. The history is hard to understand and impossible

if you don't want to, but when you get what the autor proposed at the end, your gate to the interpretations open, and you finally understand. I've watched it on Netflix, so I don't know if there is different scenes in other places.
>Story:
Appears to have some religious influence, with the EVAS and the Angels. The Angels are seen like a threat to the humankind's existence, and only the EVAS can destroy them. EVAS are controlled by select children, and they are under NERV orders.
Mechas fight aren't the main of the show, the point of everything is the psique of the characters. It's your duty to understand the messages sent to your along the episodes, you need to connect the context with the characters.
The first episodes are like an introduction, so try to not get bored at the start, otherwise, you will understand nothing.
>Art: 1995-1997
I've heard that the staff was not having a good fund, and it was very hard for them to work the final part of the series (Movie). But in my opinion, the art was very good, the EVAS design and movement, the character design, the scenarios, etc. If you have problems with flashes I would recommend you to be careful.
>Characters:
The personality of the characters is impressive, it shows that isn't easy for a person to change. Even with all the events some character never change, others change for the worst. The Hedgehog Dilemma is one of the most interesting things that happens in the story. It is introduced in the initial episodes.
Shinji has a personality that most of people doesn't like in a main character, he is coward, selfish and always ask for help. Sure, there is other elements that makes he be like this. It's a boring MC, and he don't change, but it's crucial to the story.
>Sound:
The opening is famous around the world. When I was in Argentina it started to play, just like in others places. Many of people must know the song. It's not like it defines the japanese culture, but it's marked in the people minds. The OSTs are nice, they fit with the mood.
*SPOILERS*
After watching the NGE series and EoE movie I started to think what happened. First, in the series: When all of that Shiji thinkings started I was very confused, I linked with the part of Gendo's line "It's time". But I didn't understand until the final scenes, were you can imagine that the Human Instrumentalization had already started.
And then the classical "Omedetou" scene ended the NGE, was very strange to think that would end like that, with Shinji "understanding" the things.
So I initiated the movie (The End of Evangelion). It begins with Shinji very down, so you may think "What? He doesn't finished all the of his suffering in the last episode?". Then you comprehend that the story wasn't in a chronological line in the lasts episodes, and it showed some parts of the movie.
Strangely, Shinji does that in the hospital with Asuka in comatose. The only interpretation that I found in the internet, and that I quite agree, is that like every human he haves his sexual hormones actives, and seeing Asuka body like that (after shaking her body to wake her) made him to do that. But there's others explanations about why that occurred, like, he was mentally broken, and in order to find help he goes to Asuka, and even with her state he tries to communicate. His mind was already broken after his battle with the Angel who controlled Toji's EVA, or it could be broken even at the start, where he has conflicts in piloting EVA-01, the weight of carring humakind's future.
After choke Asuka in his mind, and Kawaru, kill the only person that sayed that loved him, Shinji was totally broken. And when he was a passenger in the EVA-01 (in the end) he get's crazy, seeing Asuka's EVA destroyed and Adan in shape of Rei and Kaworu. This part is the start of episode 25-26, when the Human Instrumentalization starts with Shinji.
After all the questions in Shinji's subconscious, the movie ends with Asuka and Shinji. So Shinji starts to choke Asuka, but her gest suggests that the Human Instrumentalization ended. But there is the problem, she says "How disgusting" as always, in the end, but "Kimochi warui" has other meanings in japanese, like "I feel bad" or "Disgusting". Then you may think in two possibilities:
1. While she was in the Instrumentalization, she saw Shinji do that in the hospital. Because the purpose of the Instrumentalization was to connect all minds in one.
2. After the Instrumentalization she felt bad about everthing that happened.
But after reading some analysis I found the interview of the Asuka's VA, and it's looks like more the first theory, so she returned from the LCL because she wanted to?
The truth is that the NGE is very mysterious, like who's really Rei?; Does Asuka loved Shinji for a time?; What will happen to Shinji and Asuka?
*END OF THE SPOILERS*
>Conclusion:
I really enjoyed the series, it is the most saddest and the most interesting that I watched, it shows how hard the reality can be. Even if you try to escape the reality will always reach you, and you are the one who has to take responsibility about your decisions.
I think that it will never existis a complementar series or a fan adaptation ending, like a good ending or a alternative story with the same characters. If exists I didn't know (exists, but I haven't searched), but it would have no meaning anymore, and I think that they know.
Some things may be unclear when you finish the story, but internet always help, you just need to search in safe places and know to respect other people's opinions.

Fate Stay Night's history was always good in my opinion, Shirou meets Saber and fight for the end of the Holy Grail war. The Saber arch was the one that I most liked, but the relation between both was very "shy" and becamed more strong in the final, but... In the end I enjoyed, the director didn't made an "obvious" end. Art: 9 I can't complain about the art, because the anime was made in 2006, and the CG that appears in some parts was the tool they had in time, so, apart from that, the rest was very good, but the battle scenes were a ... |
