I've taken few weeks to process Wonder Egg Priority special, as I didn't want to say anything publicly that I would later regret saying.
Wonder Egg Priority is a dear show for me. Not only is it one of my favorite animes of all time, but it's also one of my favorite shows over all. The first time I saw WEP, it hooked me in, even though it was confusing at first, and to be fair, even in the end. But the "even in the end" is reasonable, as the original WEP anime was 1 episode short, instead of being a 12 episode show, it was
...
just 11 episodes and a filler. The ending of the show left the viewers confused, but still wanting more.
Then, Wonder Egg Priority Special was announced. The fan base of WEP got hyped, as we would finally get a conclusion to the series we so deeply love. We get to see what happened to the characters in the end, what happened to the girls they saved, etc.

The fan base was hyped to see the ending of Wonder Egg Priority, and when the fan base, me included heard that we would be getting a 45 minute long special to tie this whole series up, the hype got even bigger. We all thought that we would get something mindblowing and something that would please the fan base and give the series a conclusion that is well written. Instead, we get a 45 minute long special, that for some reason gives us a 25 minute recap FOR THE SECOND TIME in this 13 episode long series. We also got even more confusing plot points to add to the mess, even though the anime just in episodes 10-11 opened a lot more of them.
I can tolerate a filler recap episode in the original anime. It's understandable and they gave a good explanation for it. But there is literally 0 reason for another recap in here. It will be painful for the ones who watched the series days before the recap, and it's even more painful for the fans of the series who probably binge watched the series to celebrate the special release.
And to be fair, we did see what happened to the girls who got saved, so that's cool. That is probably the only thing keeping the "Story" rating to be above 1. But then, instead of tying up some plot points, they instead said "fuck it." And decided to scrap some interesting plot points the original 11 episode anime gave us, and instead, gave us even more plot points. They literally scrapped Frill storyline completely, they barely explained the bug girls that were created by Frill, and just said "haha Neiru is a robot! hehe, beeb boop!".
This special is a horrible conclusion for the series. I would try to compare it to something else, but I cannot think of something so bad on the spot. It works decently as a bridge for a 2nd season, which would be neat, but seeing how badly the special was received and well, just generally knowing CloverWorks, there quite likely wont be a 2nd season, and the fan base of Wonder Egg Priority will be left blue balled with 3-4 confusing and unexplained plot points.
TLDR + Conclusion
TLDR; The special is a horrible way to end a series, that was quite likely planned as a transition to 2nd season by CloverWorks that we will quite likely never get. Plot was confusing, first half of the special was a recap, and the sad truth is that the recap was almost more enjoyable than the actual special episode.
If you're a fan of Wonder Egg Priority who waited for this special as much as me, I am deeply sorry for you. We all got cucked by CloverWorks, but hopefully we can maybe possibly probably get a 2nd season in 2022 or 2023, if we don't, then we just have to admit our defeat and accept the sad truth that a show as beautiful never got the conclusion it deserved.
