WATCH THE DUB.
Or a version of the sub that uses the dubs soundtrack. Seriously, you're watching the wrong version if not!
Dragon Ball Z: Coolers Revenge doesn't differentiate from the other movies in any serious way, apart from being executed much much better. It is still a copy of the original series, and follows a similar plot structure with Gohan and Krillin biding time for an injured Goku, until he shows up to save the day. Cooler has a much more interesting design than any of the previous villains and drops some pretty generic 'cold' one-liners about DESTROYING EVERYTHING. He comes to avenge his fallen brother,

Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug is possibly the stupidest installment yet!
This film seems to be a loose sequel to the previous one, (as the Haiya dragon tags along) and came out during the Namek Arc. The villain is a Namekian, who was born with a mutation turning his heart 100 percent evil, causing him to become a "Super Namekian". Personally, I found Lord Slug to be pretty boring in design, but his underlings had some cool powers. Piccolo and Gohan got a larger role in this one, but kinda pissed me off- when the fight first starts, Gohan is engaging a 1v50 and getting absolutely bodied. Piccolo ... Dec 26, 2024
These movies have all relied more on the villains and fights, however this one fails to deliver either. The designs of the underlings are so incredibly boring I can't even remember what they look like. Tulleece himself was just terrible, as he's an obvious rendition of Raditz (they literally rip dialogue straight from Raditz), preformed in a much weaker fashion. All he did was showcase his stupidity (like enraging ape Gohan)
The fights themselves were lackluster- there's barely any hand to hand combat, and the final spirit bomb was also a let down. The tree that Tulleece planted sucks all the life out of Earth, so ... Dec 25, 2024
Another solid DBZ movie. The plot is kind of stupid- A scientist freezes his brain in ice to cheat death, and his assistant collects the Dragon Balls to wish him back.
The designs of the villains and goons are pretty lackluster and boring, but it's made up for by the hands thrown. Roshi gets an insane 3v1, and the final battle looks super pretty. If you can say nothing else good about the early movies, they look fantastic. The line art, color schemes, and fight coreography are all staples. I also liked the representation of Gohans trauma, however brief. Overall this is reccomended if you wanna see ... Dec 25, 2024
The first DBZ Movie is nothing crazy.
Gohan is captured by Garlic Jr.- Who seeks vengeance for his father, who was a rival for the title of Kami. Goku and Piccolo set off to get him back! The plot is explained pretty quickly, and it turns to essentially 40 minutes of pure unadulterated action with the gang versus some standard villains. Great color work (i love the reds and oranges) and animation. If you're a fan of DBZ and wanna see some hands thrown with quicker pacing, this is recommended. My Anime List refused to accept my review at this point, so this section is me typing ... Dec 25, 2024
Ah, the only good Dragon Ball movie of the 4!
This one follows the same format as the last 3, but the execution is done better in every way. Covering the Red Ribbon Army saga in it's 80 minute runtime, this movie is far more focused and concise in it's direction- resulting in an actual movie. It still goes through introducing us to the characters again, but this time in a much more natural way. It doesn't overstay it's welcome, and does a better job than the first movie. Dialogue and scene structure got a huge buff, and I love the GT-style art! The action scenes ... Dec 25, 2024
Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure is erratic, bites off more than it can chew, and fails to write its movie-original character development in an interesting way. Much like the other Dragon Ball movies, this is a retelling of the original series. This time, however, it takes notes from FOUR ARCS. In 40 minutes, this movie attempts to tell the story of Chiaotzu and Tien, the Tournament Arc, the General Blue Arc, and General Tao Arc. However, each and every rendition is stupider and infinitely less impactful than its series counterpart.
At first, I thought the idea of Chiaotzu being an Emperor and Tien having to choose between ... Dec 25, 2024
Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess is an alternate retelling, this time of Episode 14/15 of the original series.
Goku and Krillin must travel "far west" to the Devil's Palm. (Bulma and Yamcha tag along too for some reason!) Lucifer himself along with all his demons capture Bulma, to feast on her blood and resurrect the Sleeping Princess of 5000 years. (Are they vampires? Are they demons? I can't tell!) The fights end up being boring, and Lucifer doesn't really... do anything. Oh also Lunch has a cameo at the end. The best part about this movie were the backgrounds. Better than the first movie, but overall not worth ... Dec 25, 2024
Dragon Ball Curse of the Blood Rubies attempts to tell a pro-nature message, but instead serves as a shittier introduction of some of our main characters. The plot for the first 40 minutes is essentially a carbon copy of the first arc of DB, with the exception of introducing our new villain. Gurumes has been cursed by his greed, as the beautiful rubies he ravaged inhabited land for turned him into a hideous monster with an insatiable appetite. To wish for the tastiest food, he searches for the Dragon Balls.
Next, the movie follows the introductory points of Bulma, Oolong, and Yamcha. The rushing through creates ... |
