I loved absolutely everything about this OVA. The only sad part was how short the episodes were and the fact that it had to end. Carnival Phantasm is a mix of Fate/Stay night, Fate/Hollow Ataraxia, Melty blood, Tsukihime, Ultimate Blade works, and Fate zero, along with many many more.
For those of you who dont know, this series extends into every form of entertainment: anime(quite a few), novels, arcade games, manga, Erogames (which capatalize on getting Shiro laid by everything female), everything. A lot of the jokes are based off of some of these arcade games and the movies. And almost all of them are
...
fantastic. These multiple platforms are what give the characters intense back story, and interesting relationships, and its what makes these shorts so dang hilarious. If you really want to properly understand everything, go to the characters tab and read every single character summary, and then some from the relating animes and glimpse at the games, it'll help you get why the jokes are so freaking ridiculous. AND NOW FOR THE REVIEW!!!
Story: 10
How is this possible in an anime that has no story? Thats just it, its because this anime has no story that everything is so funny. The characters can do anything they want. It takes Tsukihime a vampire horror anime and literally injects it with happiness and randomness. If i had to describe this anime it would Pure Unaltered Joy. They took serious anime's and just made the characters hilarious. This anime uses several shorts to prove this. Some are jokes about fighting for the Holy Grail (like episode 1), other are just stories of the characters' lives (like episode 2). The anime is almost never serious. It literally oozes funny happiness. These short stories and arcs are what make this show so great.
Art: 10
It is well animated. It knows exactly where to give detail and where to let everything by flat and one dimensional. It adds to the experience.
Sound: 10
I love the OP and END. They are great. The sound effects that go with the characters and the sound tracks are great.
Character:10
Everything you know about these characters has changed. Everyone is a Gag and everyone is a Straight man (this means a joke guy and the person who calls them out on the joke). The characters lose all their seriousness and become immersed in a world of fun. Gilgamesh goes from being a frightful king everyone fears to an arrogant jerk who, to quote, "is the world's oldest form of a bully." Saber tries to hold on to her "warrior" status, but she too has become a formal joke character. Illya has also lost her arrogance and is just a cute little girl character.
Enjoyment: 10
How could it not be. This anime is chock full of puns, jokes, gags, references, and somethings that just make you go: "WAAAAAH?" . My parents generally disapprove of anime, but after showing them a single episode they could not help laughing at this anime. This is one of the few animes that i will go buy after watching, simply because it is so great, despite being produced by such a new company. GOOD JOB!
Overall: 10
Best comedic anime I have ever seen. It manages to be funny without being stupid. Its lack of continuity and plot are also part of its charm. I absolutely recommend this anime to every who ever had anything to do with the Fate/Stay series.

I literally just finished watching this series, and I knew immediately that I had to write a review for it.
First off, if you despise cliches, plot devices, sudden plot twists, and massive inconsistencies, this anime is not for you. Personally, i managed to ignore most of it and make it through the whole anime, and I'm looking forward to season 2. Lemme give a quick opinion of it before i go in depth.
This is probably the most cliche anime i have ever seen. It has everything: A super suit based on ancient technology that is superior to current technology and can be activated
...
by singing. A cold character with a tragic loss who hates the main character at first. A useless best friend who somehow manages to appear as important, and is heartbroken that her best friend kept a government secret from her. A evil tsundere character who is first evil and them becomes friends with the protagonist, after being abandoned by the psychotic villain whose motivations and back story don't come into play until the last three episodes, and even then make little to no sense. And best of all, its got clumsy, completely average, not really smart protagonist who got dragged into some major problem by accident, and values friendship above everything else. Couple that with the fact that the cannon fodder villains (the Noise -how is that for a creative name in an anime about singing?) are actually pretty cool looking, and not really all that scary, and you have Senki Zesshou Symphogear.
Now for the real review.
Story: 8
I give it an 8 because it is actually a really good story line, if somewhat horribly executed and cliched. Sure, its been over done, but i like to think of it as a classical anime around which all generalizations are based. There quite a few discontinuitiesbut none of them are really major enough to make think "the heck?" Aside from their suit weapons, and their attacks. Basically, Hibiki, protagonist, goes to a concert, where the Noise attack. The concert singers, Kanade and Tsubasa, are users of Symphogear, a government secret, and the only weapon that can defeat the Noise, and its activated by singing. In trying to protect Hibiki, Kanade is killed, and a piece of her Gear is stuck in Hibiki's heart. This is what makes Tsubasa resent Hibiki at first. Now here is the weird part. The school that Hibiki and tsubasa, and everyone attends is for singing, yet the only time Hibiki really ever sings is when she fights. its not like she has a passion for it all or anything. She just can. Anyway, Plot gradually progresses, after several fights with the Noise, the first of which is incredibly dramatic and activates Hibiki's Symphogear embedded in her heart. Eventaully, you meet the thrid Gear user Yukine Chris, and her boss Fine, who is the main evil villain. I am not going to explain anymore for the sake of spoiling, however, from then on it does have some good story. There are detailed explanations of quite a few things, and almost nothing is left to chance. It is pretty good.
Art:10
The only reason this got a 10 was because i love the Noise and the Symphogear. The designs are very ingenious especially for the way some of the weapons on the suits are used, particularly Hibiki's. The art of the concerts great, especially with the lights. However, the Noise take the cake. Though they all kind of look the same, i love the color schemes and the way they shimmer. The Elevator Shaft lead to Sector 2 is also very artistic. The only thing that bugged me was how big and overused the explosions were and the fact that so many things still survived inside the blast radii.
Sound: 9
Sound is based on the noise the Noise make and of course, the singing. To be honest, some of the songs, to me, particularly Tsubasa's, are kind of lame. I especially hate the way that even after they activate their gear, they keep singing, their mouths moving and everything. If the song wanted to continue thats fine, but them singing it is a bit too far. However, the theme song, and the gear activation songs are really good. I particularly like Yukine's song.
Characters:8
The reason for the eight is in the first over view. They are cliche, and some of them are just plot devices. However, the concept behind them i liked, despite their being overused. My favorite character is Hibiki for her hyper active stupidity. I think her relation with Miku is great, even if somewhat over emotional. I love the way one of their friends keeps yelling "this isn't an anime" *sigh* if only you knew.
Enjoyment: 9
Despite all my hates, i really did enjoy watching this. It wouldn't surprise me if most people disagreed, and hated it, but i think it was okay. It definitely wasn't the best, but it was way better than some other anime. The fights were really good, if somewhat over dramatic. And there is some good laughs to be had.
Overall: 9
But hey, that's just me.

For those of you who watched the first two seasons of Milky Holmes, and then decided, "I have had enough moe comedy, I don't want to watch the Alternatives." Watch the Alternative. These two episodes are the 180 of Milky Holmes. It shows what would have happened if they had never lost their Toys. Honestly, if this is what Milky Holmes was, it would would probably be one of my favorites.
Milky Holmes goes to London to visit their old teacher Opera Kobayashi. Except instead of being useless, they are well on their way to becoming full fledged detectives. There is more plot than comedy,
...
but the comedy is still as slapstick as ever. They meet Adler and the british version of Kokoro. Together, they must recover five mysterious paintings and unlock their secret.
The Alternatives are more serious than the anime, and lack Arsene, Phantom Thief empire, and G4. However it is still really good. The story is a little under developed since it only had two episodes, but is really good. If you want to see what Milky Holmes would be if they weren't stupid, useless, idiots, this is the anime to watch!

Here is a short and sweet version.
Since 1973, an alien called the BETA has been invading earth. Things to know about the BETA: we know almost nothing, There are several categories, and the first three minutes a pilot spends on the battlefield against them are known as the Three Minutes of Death, because it is rare for anyone to survive longer than that, even with giant robots. This story is not about the overall defeat of the BETA, but more like a major point amidst the chaos of the war. The setting is Alaska at a testing facility for the TFS robots and weapons. There
...
are several layers of characters in this anime, such as nation, the facility, the testing groups, the characters themselves, and other entities like Refugees groups and the military. Each character/entity/group is individualized and can be viewed as a person all on his/her/its own which is very amazing feat. The main character is Yuuya Bridges. The story is mostly about him coming to terms with the Japanese part of hi Japanese-American heritage. The story does this by personifying his Japanese heritage with his Japanese test robot. Through several story arcs of different types, he slowly begins to understand how his robot works and come to grip with his heritage. To help him is his own group, and Yui Takamura, his Japanese Commanding officer with a tragic past. That is the main gist of the story.
Here is the detailed version.
Story: 7
What? An 7? Yes, an 7. The story really isn't all that original. It is your generic "Aliens are invading, only part of the world is still inhabitable and so all of us Nations are sharing it." (kind of like Strike Witches, no offense to Strike Witches). But if it's so generic, why did I give it an 7? Because it is still very different. Normally, an anime like this would focus on a hero of some sort with a special machine and abilities who can kill everything, but this anime takes a different approach. Bridges is definitely an Ace pilot, just like all of the other test pilots, but he hates being a test pilot, he would rather be on the field fighting. So why pull top ranks from the field to test robots? Because a skilled pilot is needed to test robots that could have all sorts of bugs in them. Part of this story is in fact about Bridges coming to grips with the handling and control of his Japanese style robot. Bridges himself is Japanese-American, but he despises Japan because he believes them to be cowards, and he thinks his robots fighting style is built in all wrong. His fight with learning to pilot the robot is parallel to him coming to grips with his Japanese heritage. Though the BETA are a major part in this story, they aren't the main focus. The focus is rather Bridges and his groups own personal struggle against each other and other nations. (I will talk more about this in the character section.) As well as the nations of earth fighting against each other while fighting the BETA. What do I mean? While they all want to defeat the BETA, each nation wants to cripple the other ones, that way when the BETA are defeated, then one nation will be able to stand above them all. This story also brings into view the relations of the characters as people, and as citizens of other countries, but more on that in the character section. The story is great and contains multiple smaller conflicts within overall major conflicts. It is entertaining and somewhat tragic at the same time. Also, don't be thrown off by the first few episodes. The story begins by following Yui Takamura as a High school student and it shows what happens to her platoon. While this part is horrific and scarring, it serves as an important basis for Yui's character later on and is crucial. MOVING ON!
Art: 10
I love the art in this anime. The characters are drawn and animated beautifully, but more than that, i love the animation of the fights. Because we are dealing with robots, the robots are 3D and so are the BETA. this makes the fight scenes much more dramatic and capturing. Artists do a good job capturing the emotions of the characters in their faces as well as in the scripts. The BETA have very unique designs and traits that are nearly impossible to copy without blantantly ripping them off, and are very wonderfully animated. Explosions are not over done, and the blood sprays are almost beautiful, except that they are blood. NEXT!
Sound: 9
I love the OP theme for this anime. It catches the intense action and sudden changes of this anime. It shows character motivation and it’s got a good beat. The lip syncing is good, and the sound effects are also great. The cries from the BETA are easily distinguishable as cries of pain or aggression. The voice actors’ portrayal of emotion in their voices is also superb. The machines whir, and the monsters scream. Swords buzz with energy and guns shout with bullets. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
Character ( my favorite): 10
This story has multiple characters, and each character exists on a different level. This is best seen in Cryska: she is Russian and is thus ultimately loyal to the Motherland. In her test group, which is her and her little sister Inia, she will do anything to help Inia and hurt anyone who gets near her including “the Motherland”. Then she exists as herself, something she has trouble doing after being raised in communist Russia. She doesn’t understand her own emotions, and doesn’t overall know what she wants. If you look at Yuuya Bridges, He is loyal to America, despises Japan and Yui (cuz she is Japanese and for no other reason). He exists as the “leader” of his team. And as an individual does what he thinks is best on the whole, disregarding everyones’ orders. There are also lots of entities in this anime. Entities fall into three or for basic categories: Russia, America, Japan, and the BETA. Russia and Japan are the big ones, and this is highlighted by the relationship between Cryska and Yuuya. America is more of just “yeah we survived you guys all owe us.” And the BETA are used as a rallying point to say, “We are all on the same side.” They aren’t actually that lame, though.
This anime also does an amazing job with the side characters. Everyone from the waitress at the bar to the mechanic in the hangar manages to form a connection with you. They are round even though they barely get screen time. While there is a set group of characters, this anime does a fantastic job of integrating new people, and disposing of other ones. Personally, I believe that the ability to connect with the characters really builds into an anime and helps direct the flow. You know what a character will do based on their mindset, and this anime does a great job of leaving you guessing without making you cringe.
Enjoyment: 9
I often had to take breaks while watching this anime, and I hated every moment of it. This anime always has a sense of suspense in it and in multiple ways. There is a suspense between the characters, between the BETA and the humans, and between the entities, all of which is tied together in one form or another. It left me wondering “what happens next?” without some lame dramatic reveal at the end like: “we just found her dead” –roll credits-. While it does have some of those cheesy romantic suspense moments like “What do I feel for him” and “What is love?” it still kept my attention and made up for it with battle scenes, in which anything that could possibly go wrong probably did. As a result, I think a 9 is pretty fair.
Overall: 9
Why? Read the above and then watch the anime. You won’t regret it.

This anime is for those who want a good laugh. It starts out with what seems to be the making of a story but then just goes, 'screw it' and slowly dissolves into gag jokes and characters, mostly characters. The only real plot is how Nyaruko is madly in love Mahiro and keeps trying to 'swoon' him.
Here is a basic run down of the story:
Mahiro is walking home from school and is suddenly transported into an alternate dimension and attacked by a freakish demon and begins to freak out, only to be saved by what can only be described as the most flamboyant character
...
ever, Nyaruko, who immediately falls in love with Mahiro and tries to do everything in her power to sleep with him. Nyaruko is an alien who's duty is to protect earth from undocumented aliens. these aliens are only after one thing (rejoice otaku's): Entertainment. Manga, anime, music, games, everything they want it. Earth entertainment (specifically japanese) is considered amazing in space and aliens invade earth to get it. Each arc starts out like a serious problem but then ends up being solved by some obscure foreshadowing and pointless events that make no sense. Two more aliens ( Cthuko and Hasta) help Mahiro and Nyaruko, but I'll leave their story out since it is really interesting and I don't want to spoil.
This show's main attraction is its characters, parodies, and gag jokes. The characters all have a firm base that they never leave. Nyaruko is madly in love with, and possibly insane, Mahiro, who couldn't care less about her and constantly points out discontinuities in the show (breaking the fourth wall). Again, I'm leaving Cthuko and Hasta out to let you see for yourselves. Being an Otaku anime, it references every type of anime with all sorts of hilarious parodies.
This anime is almost impossible to predict because of its constant twists and turns. Anything that can happen will happen through means of a plot device that Nyaruko will make up on the spot. It's mindless stupidity, without being annoying. The song is catchy, and the story arcs are all entertaining. Enjoy your watch!

It makes absolutely no sense, which is exactly why it is so awesome.
A detective with a hair fetish? Such a premise alone already hints that this anime makes no sense.
Kei has just been hired at a job called Cuticle Tantei, the cuticle detective, owned by Inaba and his cross dressing assistant Yuuta, who has a major obsession with Inaba to the point where you forget he is a guy. Inaba has been genetically altered to be part wolf part human, and all types of weird. He quit the police force and started his own detective agency, his ability is to go into different
...
types of wolf form based on the hair he eats. His enemy? Don Valentino. a goat. Ikr...I waited for the punch line, but it doesn't exist. Don is a goat, and a criminal mastermind with a taste for yen notes. Inaba tries to "catch" Don whenever Don pulls off some hair brained scheme. I say "catch" because they are actually more like frenemies who enjoy competing against each other. Kei is dragged along on all the exploits as Inaba's assistant and suffers through every single one of them.
There is a lot more to this anime than that, but telling you would spoil it. If you want to learn more, you just have to watch. This anime has a lot pointless comedy, with amazing characters, every single one is unique and has never been copied. Enjoy the watch!

Horo is the Sage Wolf. Her normal form is that of a Giant Wolf, but she can alter her form into an auburn haired girl with ears and a tail. She has looked after the grain fields of a village for thousands of years. But now, she has a wish. She wants to go home. To the north. To do this, she recruits the help of friendly merchant Lawrence, who's dream is to open his own shop, by forcefully stealing way into his cart. her soul inhabits the grain that Lawrence bought at this village. As payment for taking her North, she offers to
...
help Lawrence make enough money to open his own shop. The two begin a journey to the north, along which Lawrence attempts to make money using his trade. Together, the two travel from town to town meeting varieties of people, becoming closer to one and other, and running into a kind of trouble different from the usual anime conflict. Financial trouble. This anime has little to do with violence and fighting for friendship. Instead the conflict is based on any financial trouble Lawrence and Horo encounter, from the change in the value of coin, to buying goods that are actually worthless. This anime is more about the journey than the destination, and it is an incredible journey.
DON'T DISMISS IT YET! This anime is nowhere near as boring as what i just said sounds. This is one of the few intellectual anime that you will really ever find. Despite there being a wolf, there is next to no violence in this anime. Instead, it is replaced with Horo's adorable way of talking and her sharp wit. The two constantly compete with one and other in a love hate relationship. It is amazing to watch the way these two characters interact with one and other.
I watched this anime while i was taking an economics class, and I swear i got an A because of it. The thoughts and concepts this anime portray are so accurate that the creators deserve an ovation for properly explaining and implementing such complex concepts ideas into a anime without being boring. Kudos to you guys and congrats on a job well done.

Summer is a time of youth and enjoyment. Death is something hard to deal with, especially when it happens to someone close to you. What do these two things have in common?
This anime.
We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day (Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shirana) contains a very touching, heartwarming story. Jintan is essentially a high school dropout who skipped his first semester of high school, and is looked down upon by everyone. It wasn't always that way. When he was younger, he had five friends: Poppo, Yukiatsu, Anaru, Tsurumi, and Menma, together
...
they were The Super Peace Busters and Jintan was their awesome leader. Until Menma died. As time progressed, they grew apart, each blaming themselves for the death of Menma, whom they all loved. They changed, and now don't even talk to each other. Except for Jintan, who is the only on who can see Menma's ghost. Menma came back to have her wish granted, except she doesn't know what it is. The only thing she knows is that everyone has to be together for it to come true. Jintan, annoyed by Menma, must get the group back together. Jintan faces many trials and bumps on the road trying to get his friends back together. He learns not only the true feelings of all his friends, but what Menma actually means to him.
The story is a very touching one and while it does take the ocassional dark turn, it is ripe with comedy, romance, emotion and makes for a very good romcom.

Sorry its so long! But I still didn't cover a fourth of everything that happened in this anime.
When I first saw this anime, i wondered whether not I should watch it. With a name like Fairy Tail it sounds pretty lame, right? Wrong. Fairy Tail is absolutely great, and almost everyone who has seen this anime or read the manga will agree with me.
So, what's it about besides a guy with pink hair named Summer(Natsu) running around breathing fire, and a talking cat named Happy? Its about a blonde hottie named Lucy Heartfilia who is a Stellar Spirit Mage (summons spirits based on constellations).
...
Her dream is to join a mages guild called Fairy Tail. Obviously, she get's in pretty quick, its what happens afterward that matters. She meets people like Gray Fullbuster, a ice mage with a habit of stripping naked, and Erza Scarlett, a freaking powerful warrior mage who does some pretty weird things. A cute girl named Wendy Marvell (introduced further into the anime) who gets easily flustered. Fairy Tail contains a plethora of unique characters and personalities, each one just as refreshing as the last.
So what's the main plot? Well one of the main questions throughout the anime is what happened to the Dragons? Each dragon had a certain element, and raised only one child. Natsu got fire, Wendy got air, Gajeel got Iron, and each one has the ability to eat their element to gain magic power. However, the Dragons all disappeared July 7th, 777. The question of what happened to them is brought constantly, and is the reason why Natsu and Lucy meet, but it is not the main quest.
This anime doesn't really have a main quest. Instead, it has story arcs, each of which are events that happen to the guild, or are adventures that the characters go out on as requests. As a guild, Fairy Tail receives requests that the guild members go out and complete and get paid for. It is through these requests, and random events that give Fairy Tail its story and the characters their backstory. Nothing similar ever happens twice. There is always a sense of suspense during every arc right up till the end.
I love watching this anime and its characters. Right now, Fairy Tail is on Hiatus as the voice actor for Lucy has personal reasons. I am re-watching it to refresh my memory of the story, but now is also a great time for other people to start it if you want to get caught up. I hope you enjoy this anime as much as i do!

I say 1 for the story because there is absolutely no story line what so ever. Nothing in these specials match the anime, they are all just a bunch of comical shorts. Remove the hate and seriousness and you are just left with weird comedy and some random violence, that is basically what these Specials are all about. It features all of teh characters in some really weird situations ranging from Magical Girl Revy to all of them going to back to being 9-16 year olds to inverting everybody's gender. Its good for a quick laugh and it really leaves you thinking, "The heck did
