This was such a fun manhwa I feel kind of offended that it's not that popular.
I didn't really have much expectations entering Let's Get Divorced! because I read this manhwa for one thing and one thing only: I am an absolute sucker for pretend-couple tropes. What better way to convey that than literally committing marriage fraud for a green card?
This story is not perfect- there are times that the characters can be inconsistent, and the main arc has been stretched out for far too long, in my opinion. I rather the author expanded on the side characters, who, despite appearing only for a few chapters-
...
were really interesting and funny, rather than going on and on about the unlikely but not surprising antagonist.
Still, I could easily forgive all of that because this story was actually very fun! Baekhui, our protagonist (and whose point of view we get to see the most of) is absolutely hilarious and relatable. Her antics, while mostly bizarre and without a doubt embarrassing, never fail to crack me up to tears. Her love interest, Han-gyeol, is charming enough. I do wish we get to see him in a more vulnerable light but the author did make him cry several times and if there's anything I like in my male leads, it's absolute tears of hopelessness- so that's enough for me, I guess.
As I said earlier, the side characters were very interesting. I kind of wish we got more of them instead of the main plot getting stretched to tatters. There were two side-couples here that has very interesting dynamics, as well as three supporting characters that were very fun to read. It kind of felt rushed towards the end, I wouldn't have minded a couple of side stories to really finish things off.
Still, this is the rom-com we've all been looking for. It's romantic and absolutely hilarious- finding the right balance between the two genres. It may not be perfect but aren't we all?
If you're looking for a funny second-chance, pretend-couple, opposites-attract romance comic to make you forget the misery that we call life, look no further because Let's Get Divorce! fits the bill perfectly.

Daytime Star is your typical Cinderella story in modern Hallyuwood, shown in rose-tinted glasses for the perfect webtoon equivalent of your average opposites attract (SES edition) K-drama.
As a romance, this manhwa was meh. The story and characters for that matter, couldn't be more typical- but I do appreciate how the FL can stand up for herself every now and then. It's such a shame we couldn't get more of that because we need the ML to save her at every panel.
I would've easily rated this story a four because while I enjoy it, I already have had enough K-dramas where the rich and much
...
more accomplished ML helps out the hopeful and sincere but gets the short end of the stick FL (bonus: it is never really explained why such an "extraordinary" ML fell in love with an average FL). What made this story fun for me though is how funny it was, at the most unexpected moments no less. I feel like the author wasn't really taking the story seriously when they were writing it and I like that, I like how they revert to caricatured chibis for dramatic effect. I especially like the deadpan ML chibi, I think it's what made the typical jealous scenes that I normally wouldn't find funny hilarious. I like how the characters' deliver the most unhinged lines from time to time too and then get embarrassed after. The cherry on top for me, a close second to the ML's chibi, is the actions the FL takes- which was honestly so embarrassing at times that it made me drop my phone and scream to my pillow to end my misery. What can I say? It's the comedic element of this story that really made me stick around through the end.
Of course, the more it neared the end- the less we got of it, but for what it's worth- I haven't read a romance with hints of comedy for so long and I am a sucker for rom-coms. While this didn't rom-COM the way I wanted it to, it rom-COMed enough for me to not feel like I've wasted my time bingeing 77 chapters. I also appreciate that the author didn't stretch out the serious moments for too long. Nonetheless, I don't think I've laughed so hard at a manhwa the way I did with this recently. Maybe my humor is shallow or my life is at extremely rock bottom that this is the thing that makes me laugh now, but I believe laughter is a difficult reaction to garner and if the story was able to do that for me on more than two occasions, then it's not a completely bad story.

This was a very interesting webtoon. Perhaps it's because the author went through with the story with such clear intentions that made it all the more impactful.
My Reason to Die deviates from the typical by stringing a series of mundane events to elicit strong emotions from the readers. It is a story that wouldn't have worked if the characters weren't fleshed out and lovable, but the author made sure to fill that criteria before stabbing the readers right out front. The most remarkable thing about this story for me is how it is unnecessary cruel, and how incredibly flawed the characters are. Ji-O, our main
...
character, is absolutely stubborn- a core characteristic that serves a double-edged sword. It is this trait that drives this story to its core, and it is a flaw that you would hate and love about her at the same time.
I think writing flaws within a character is a difficult thing to do. You could either downplay it or overplay out of proportion that it makes the character unlikeable. However, the characters of My Reason to Die are authentically written- making the entire story all the more riveting. Ji-O, while stubborn, shines with her strong-will. Gyeol, while playful and mostly detached, tends to attract trouble and pity with his dedication. Even the side characters that don't appear much has substance within, and it's this writing that makes the story so frustratingly good. I'd go as far to say that it was the characters that ultimately carried the story, which isn't far off from the truth because this webtoon is heavily character-centric.
I was mostly able to predict the twist by the middle of this story, but it was the characters' awkwardly navigating through their set of troubles that really made that twist slap. It's good writing- to have your Easter eggs predicted yet still a surprise. I am still deliberating whether I liked the ending or not, but I do think this was a story worth remembering. It is definitely not a story written to be loved by everyone, but it is that kind of dedication to detail that made it such a great story for me.
9/10, I would give anything to erase this from my memory and ride this rollercoaster again.

June Peach started off with two short but felt tragedies followed by a perfect, long heart-stopping romance between our two leads. It was so perfect and ran through chapter after chapter that you couldn't help but feel that ominous feeling seeping in. It felt like riding a rollercoaster to the highest peak before the hurling drop.
Nothing could've prepared me for that drop.
I was kind of aware that this manhwa is partly a tragedy but I did not expect to go through that tragedy with the character. I had to
...
relive every single pain and I am NOT okay. I need to exchange words with the author because who made them so sad that they could write something this messed up? I thought this was a simple, cookie-cutter regression manhwa with blown-up proportioned drama but instead, I actually got a huge, mind-blowing plot. A plot so well drawn out and elaborated that you simply cannot fault it, and all you can do is cry for the tragedy these characters have to go through just because.
I'm still reeling from the aftermath of this story. The author and artist had a way of writing and drawing sadness so beautifully that you can't help but grab your hair in frustration and scream. The endless sorrow that came as the price for a small amount of happiness spanned for so long and was painstakingly slow, it was antagonizing threading through this manhwa. I could've stopped and dropped this but it was impossible. Somewhere along the way, I was already rooting for a happy ending or at least some semblance of hope.
This manhwa was just a beautiful tragedy and I kind of think I deserve like twenty bonus chapters for the suffering I went through but I'll take what I can get. The revelations were just so heartbreaking but finishing it has never felt so rewarding. If you want a good cry, here's the story to go for.
Also, fuck peaches.

There's one thing I need to admit before we proceed any further: I read this with one intention in mind, and that was to get my mind absolutely fucked.
I have a certain love for psychological manhwas- but add a historical aspect to it? Signed, sealed, delivered- I am all yours. The pissed-off reviews in The Sacred One Speaks should've been a warning but like any psychological historical manhwas with people complaining how manipulative and red-flagged the characters were in the top reviews, I was pulled
...
in like metal to a magnet. I was so pumped to read this and I'm kind of sad that it wasn't as messed up as the reviews made it out to be.
The story is disturbing and misogyny is very casual within the panels. The ML himself hasn't been the kindest to the FL yet the FL who had only experienced love through worship has found warmth in the ML's indifference, immediately setting the tone of their relationship. If you're looking for the typical historical fantasy romance of enemies to lovers, this manhwa is probably not for you. There is an obvious imbalance between the ML and FL's relationship, especially since the ML has held the FL captive. The ML has also done and said things to the FL that are cruel, yet you have to understand that Macklart is a holy knight- and for all his life, he has only served god. Vienne, the queen of the witches, and for what he has known is dancing hand in hand with the devil, would obviously not be treated kindly.
I was expecting an absolute batshit ML and he was kind of crazy, but he wasn't as bad or manipulative as the reviews I read made him out to be. In fact, I think he's one of those MLs who got a serious redemption arc- like, it was fun to read how his actions and words towards the FL reverted back to him when the romance genre came in. On the other hand, the FL is pitiful but well-written with what little chapters this story has. A common thing some readers share when reading stories with submissive FLs is how they're "weak" but Vienne was frail and pitiful yet strong. It's important to take into consideration the timeline of this story: this was set in a time when moral standards today would not apply. Vienne, who is not only a woman but a witch- does not have a choice in a room of men of the church who view her as a spawn of the devil. It's unfair to expect her to girlboss her way out, and it's unfair to the ML and the story as well to criticize it for simply not complying with ethical considerations that it probably doesn't even understand.
I think this is the first psychological romance story where I actually kind of rooted for the relationship. Macklart and Vienne were both raised in a terrible situation where they didn't understand what love was. For Macklart, love was worship to reverence and for Vienne, it was to be worshipped 'til death. It is unfair to expect them to remedy their problems conventionally, it's sad but it was understandable how they found love within each other. I think this is the first time in a while that I have actually read a well-written dark romance. It gave me so much to gnaw on I was so hungry for more 'til the very end.
I do have to address how sloppily put together this manhwa is, all praises aside. I wanted to read so much more about their pasts and what made them the way they were instead of glimpses and glances but I do like how they didn't drag the story out too much. All in all, this was a nice read. I picked it out on a whim thanks to the negative reviews and finished it in like two days. It was like a tamer version of Lady Devil but this one is more digestible.

This is more of a response than a review but I am seriously side-eyeing everyone who saw a deaf pink-haired female lead and immediately went "A Silent Voice"! Like, that says a WHOLE lot more about you than the quality of this story, I'm sorry.
Anyway, the only reason why I started watching this was because of that one negative review I've read from a friend on Reddit. I was curious enough to give it a spin and color me surprised but this was one of the most wholesome shoujo I've watched for a while now. It leans a little more on slice-of-life, you can
...
literally watch any episode out of context and still get what's going on but it flows nicely chronologically so that's fun. I have read the manga at some point this time and what I'm about to say may be blasphemy but I actually like the anime just a tad bit better.
They're pretty much one in the same and I still recommend the manga but I think the anime does a lot better in portraying Itsuomi's character. Maybe it's because the initial part of the manga was limited to Yuki's perspective but something about how they animated it to life just does a better way of portraying that Itsuomi isn't suspicious or has malicious intentions towards Yuki. There are subtle signs like the traffic lights in the part where Oushi forbids Yuki from seeing Itsuomi so late in the night. Oushi is illuminated by a red light as he calls Yuki stupid and says Itsuomi is probably just playing with her. This is in contrast to the flash of green when Yuki ignores and runs away from him to go to Itsuomi. It's basic color theory and a little subtle but not really, but I kind of like those little details.
Not everyone will appreciate the premise but I think what I like about the anime so far is how it shows that learning sign language isn't a basis of being an ally. Oushi's character is interesting because he continued learning sign language and while there are times that he is helpful, his ultimate treatment of Yuki is actually harmful and there are times when he crosses her boundaries. This is in contrast to Rin and Itsuomi, both who despite not knowing sign language, take into account Yuki's personal space and doesn't treat her like a child.
Character overanalyzation and dramatics aside, I like that this anime doesn't really make me think. It's written so softly and affectionately that it tugs at my rusty heartstrings every now and then. I might change some parts of this review but four episodes in and I like how it's adapted so far. They're very faithful towards the manga but there are subtle creative liberties that helps the readers take the characters in a little better. It's a mix of insta-romance but also slow burn, if that makes any sense? All in all, this was fun and people should stop comparing it to A Silent Voice.

This is one of the lines spoken in Lady Devil that I believe explains the story perfectly. The story is horrendous, revolting- and the characters are all terrible. It's what makes it a good story that honestly, I feel so sad for the people who dropped this because of the taboo aspects it covers. Let's address the elephant in the room: yes, this story has some incestuous and misogynistic scenes- but it doesn't mean it's a terrible story. The characters are all morally gray- no one here is truly
...
innocent or absolutely evil.
There was a scene in this manhwa where one of the characters starts hallucinating about cobwebs covering her entire surroundings. Every single person she saw had cobwebs in their necks, and I think that metaphor truly describes the essence of what makes this story brilliant. Every character shown in this manhwa, as terrible or pathetic they may seem, are all victims of the system. Men are pressured to comply with their masculinity but at the same time, they're the ones who still thrive in a patriarchal system, however the cost of sanity. Women, on the other hand, are egregiously limited and only seen as either servants or means for political gain through being a marriage prospect.
It's not your typical historical romance with cookie-cutter characters and a half-assed plot. This is the most accurate historical manhwa I've read thus far. The female main character can not simply "girlboss" because the system does not allow her, and the ML can't just do as he please and save her because he actually has political responsibilities. It's terrible, sinister, and an absolutely enigmatic story that you can't help but continue reading despite the gruesome topics at hand. It actually gives you something to ponder and think about, this is not just another historical romance-fantasy manhwa to use as brain fodder. The characters are complicated and make decisions that will have you smashing your head to the wall- but you will understand, no matter how extreme those decisions were. You will actually understand the psyche of what leads to their development because the story is just so perfectly narrated.
I will admit, it does drag, especially during the flashbacks- but the storytelling and further exploration of the characters are just too good to get impatient by.
My advice to anyone who would like to give this story a try is to see that romance is more of one of the many thematic here rather than a definitive genre. I will say right away that this story does cover incest and child marriage, and it does portray misogynistic and other troubling scenes such as abuse. This isn't really a spoiler, from the very beginning the manhwa will mention this in every trigger warnings for each chapter. I think this story really grew on me despite the portrayal of taboo topics because they neither exploited nor glorified them. Instead, they are portrayed in a harsh but truth-cutting way, one that will make your skin crawl.
I can not and will not impose this story to you. If incest or abuse is a topic that you are not comfortable with, then I suggest that you give this one a skip. If you, however, wants a compelling and substantial story you can gnaw and chew on- Lady Devil is the story to go for. The art style is gorgeous and really amplifies the horror this story covers, and the characters are morally ambiguous and well-written. In summary, I think this story is one of those standing proof that portraying appalling and awfully sickening topics that crosses the lines of standard morals does not mean it is a bad story. You can not simply impose modern morality in a story that has no need for it.

This was more or less a trip down memory lane to me, a popcorn session with nostalgia by my side so that may or may not have clouded my judgment.
I came into this anime not expecting a lot, to be honest. I had prepared my phone and all in the possibility that it gets tedious and easily boring. It's funny, really. Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru was one of the first shoujo manga I genuinely fell in love with, and it was also one of my first heartbreaks. The manga was fun at first but I soon found it a chore to read,
...
I even find myself skipping some panels. I dropped it so long ago I didn't even remember why exactly, and with the anime in the corner of my TBW- I thought it'd just be reading the manga all over again. Which sounded boring, reiterating my case that I grew tired of reading the manga. I was so glad to have my expectations be wrong.
I came into this anime finding myself falling in love with all the characters all over again- Akane, Yamada, Eita, Runa, Kamota-san, and even Tsubaki, Ruka, and Momo who didn't appear as much but I remembered instantly the moment they appeared on screen. I read the manga so long ago but memories of the 3AMs I spent under my covers with a lamp and night light by my side, carefully flipping the page to not disturb the silence came rushing to my mind as this anime takes me for a ride. I even surprised myself by catching the slight differences the anime took leisurely from the manga.
I kind of predicted how it was going to end seeing how the anime is pacing itself, but it was a fun time nonetheless. Akane is everything I imagined her to be- I particularly love how she was voiced, but overall, everyone did a great job. Honestly, there were some things that I was kind of neutral about (like the pacing haha), but overall, this was very fun! I had so much good feelings after finishing this series I even picked up the manga again and caught up to the latest volume! (which surprisingly wasn't that far off from where I dropped it)
Anyway, the TL;DR is I don't know what magic they placed in this, I'm normally very cynical about romance anime but this shoujo-ed in ways I haven't seen anime shoujo-ed in years. I don't know, maybe it's the nostalgia but I had fun and that's all that matters.

I just want it to be on the record that I was planning to give this story a 7 at best and a 6 or 5 at worst. Like, above all else- I was having fun.
I mean, was this story absolutely ridiculous and managed to surpass all the logics of cooking, physics, and proper plotting? Of course it was! But despite Abella kneading dough and eventually, somehow turning it to cutesy, aesthetic little macarons, her inability to choose dresses without at least fifteen bows, and a single macaron actually being able to stop a national war- I was fine with it. I knew I
...
had to turn off my brain and embrace the chaotic yet fastly-paced way the FL had risen to the top despite all adversities, and that was okay. I had fun for a while, and while this story probably did not intend me to laugh at certain plot ploints- it made me laugh. It was so funny that I felt a purifying sensation to my crumbly, dark soul- and that has always been what's important to me.
However, the reason why my score and would-be love for this manhwa dropped to an all-time low is something you would consider trivial, maybe even petty: the last few chapters. The last few chapters of this manhwa has been spent redeeming the antagonists of this manhwa: dark dragon human-racist guy and Abella's former sister-in-law with a brother complex. Like, I can NOT stress how agonizing this redemption arc had been. Look, I'm all for people changing or whatever but some characters, and people for that matter, just do not deserve a redemption arc. I mean, these antagonists are top of the top a-holes with a degree in annoying the fuck out of me. The dragon guy hated the very scent of humans and was the one planting evil ideas on the girl with a brother complex's (GWBC) head like I don't know, poisoning the cows for a start? Like, I'm sorry- I get hating humans but what did those poor, harmless cows did to you??
It's not like GWBC is so innocent either, this lady was far worse in my opinion. This girl literally planned on starting a national war just so Abella could not operate her dessert cafe and die a terrible death- like, excuse me? And even if you can forget and forgive all of that, which, by the way- is horrible because it would've resulted the loss of millions of innocent lives- she literally had a pregnant woman kidnapped and threatened to have her unalive if the FL doesn't stop... wait for it... living her life, minding her own business? This people did not deserve a redemption arc at all, and my love for this story for being so campy had ended because THIS WAS THE LAST REMAINING CHAPTERS. They weren't even punished for their crimes like I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.
On a good note though, I know I just said this story was terrible but the reason why I couldn't give it a 1 so heartlessly is because rant aside, this story actually has qualities I rarely see in OI manhwas. The FL could stand up for herself and her character has always been consistent, and for the most part, the ML has been respectful. Maybe the horrible characters I mentioned earlier shouldn't have gotten a redemption arc but there were minor antagonists who got what they deserved, and overall the story was nice although wrapped loosely towards the end. So, even if I wasted like two paragraphs and so hate-typing the fact that this story gave them of all characters a redemption arc, honestly, it was camp. For the most part, at least. If you could turn your brain off all the way and enjoy the sweet chaos, you're in for a ride.
I was honestly set on giving this a solid 3 for that reason but her dresses were so atrociously bad and I'm just that terribly petty, I had to lower it to a 2.
TL;DR: CAMP.

I wanted to love this one so bad.
The initial premise was so cute but the FL is very hard to like. In spite of that, I had actually found her naivety and denseness funny and at times, adorable. The author really went stuck with the archetype and I respect that. I, however, lost all sense of patience and understanding towards the end. To be honest, in a nutshell- this was just 11 chapters of seeing the ML suffering at the FL's immaturity.
I honestly would've been fine with it if not for the FL's actions towards the end plus a rushed ending.
