*I will avoid spoiling this anime, but be aware I talk about the 11th-hour twist in vague detail*
Wonder Egg Priority is a special kind of anime. On its surface, it is an incredibly sleek and pretty package, with an interesting premise and good chatacters. However, Wonder Egg Priority is by far one of the most mishandled modern anime I have seen. For an anime with such great production, the direction of this anime is non-existent to downright terrible.
Wonder Egg has one of the strongest starts I have seen in the modern scene. It opens with an incredible first few episodes that seem to hook
...
in anyone who watches them. Ai is an incredibly compelling character and the introduction of the Wonder Eggs is done nearly perfectly. At some point though, the anime losses the script entirely and tries to become three separate animes. A dark magical girl show, a slice of life character study, and then Akira or Eva.
---
Art and sound:
The one thing that does not need to be said about Wonder Egg is that its design is amazing. Its art style is beautiful and the design of its characters and the monsters are amazing. Ai is an amazing example of how well-defined the designs for each of the girls are. The settings themselves are also amazing, never did I feel like any of the places we see are nothing more than visually great.
The sound design as well is amazing with the v/o's being some on my favorite of the modern seasons.
8.5/10
Characters:
The main Characters of wonder egg are incredible. The main 4 are in my opinion, very well done. They are compelling, understandable, and you find yourself easily rooting for them.
But then we get to the rest of the cast.
The problems with Wonder Egg's direction begin to shine its ugly head at this point. As outside of our main 4, we have no one else we really can like.
The girls we encounter from the egg's work at first, before being pushed aside like the actual plot element. The Acca's, while at first are great, become unredeemable when the 11th-hour twist is pulled. The main villain (if you could call it that) is only even revealed at the 11th episode of a 12 episode series.
I would be able to forgive this if our main 4 stayed as strong as they were in the beginning. But, all of the above problems take away heavily from the main 4. It eats away at what development we got from them, and in the end, reduces them to exactly where they started in the series.
5/10
Story:
Wonder Egg suffers from a complete lack of direction in any regard to its plot. Elements are introduced randomly with no care to develop or even try to fit them in. The Wonder Eggs go from being the element that moves us forward, to a backseat element that does not matter, to a force of good in the world. It does not help that the 11th episode introduces a twist that changes literally everything and provides no satisfying answer to the question it poses.
Speaking of questions though, the element of suicide and the questions it poses in the anime are discounted entirely towards the end. The 11th episode twist boils this issue down to such a simple hand wave explanation that you even wonder why they would put the effort into developing it at all.
This lack of direction overall takes whatever heat the show had at the beginning and freezes it right over. It brings nothing but apathy towards the series and the ending it provides.
2/10
Enjoyment:
Wonder Egg could have been an enjoyable series. It could have kept the heat it had at the beginning. It could have chosen to stick with one plot direction. It could have decided not to wait till the very last moment to pull a twist out of its ass.
But, it didn't. Wonder Egg is a series I will remember not because of what I enjoyed about it. I will remember it for how disappointing it because. How it took itself into 4 different directions and didn't commit to any of them.
But most importantly, I will remember Wonder Egg as an example of how important a good director is
1/10
Overall:
If I had to describe Wonder Egg, I would describe it as a wonderful chocolate egg on its surface. Its foil protection draws you in. The delicious surface entices you to take a bite. And it's spoiled insides cause you hate the entire experience.
Wonder Egg is a great example to show that no matter how good you make something look. How much effort you put into making a concept sound cool. If you don't have any idea how to execute something, you will always find yourself throwing all your hard work off the bridge with you.

Master of Martial Hearts, oh boy where to start on you. Oh, that's right, the ending. Jokes aside, Master of Martial Hearts is an interesting anime, to say the least. Not good, but interesting.
Martial Hearts is one of those animes that blends into the crowd. in the late 2000's ova market, it was just another fighting show made essentially as fan service. With only 5 episodes as well, you can easily assume that Martial Hearts would be just another horrible anime with a poor plot that you only watch as dumb fun or because you want to watch girls strip fight each other. And
...
you would be right.
Story:
Martial Hearts follows Aya, a high schooler who has entered into a mysterious fighting tournament. The prize if you win, the platonic heart. A jewel that can grant any one wish to the winner. Aya is pulled into the tournament when a new friend of hers is spirited away after being eliminated herself. Now Aya must battle her way through the other competitors. Risking her own existence while fighting to save another.
Sounds bad right, well you're right. Martial Hearts is bad, not egregiously so though. If the first 4 episodes were on their own, the series could maybe pull a 3-4/10. But that's not what we need to talk about
The ending of Martial Hearts is something else. I will not spoil it here, because you need to watch it to believe how bat shit crazy this show actually is. A last-minute hairpin turn in the plot causes this show to go from a mediocre slogfest to one of the most memorable bad ova you will see.
2/10
Art & Sound:
There is literally nothing to say about this. It's a late 2000's ova with all it's mediocrity.
5/10
Characters:
The characters in Martial Hearts are insane, literally. I cannot describe anything about them because it will spoil the ending.
Tl;dr though, Aya is a really flat and boring protagonist. Her enemies are the same. The rest are out of their god damn minds
1/10
Enjoyment:
Martial Hearts is not an enjoyable anime because of its plot or storytelling. Martial Hearts is enjoyable for just how bad its ending is. Skip to episode 5 if you don't want to sit through the rest of the anime
9/10
Conclusion:
You cannot talk about Martial Hearts without spoiling its ending. This is a shame because I cannot convey how insane this ova actually is. Skip to episode 5 if you want to have 30 minutes of sheer insanity.

Maze is one of those animes that feels like you've seen it before already. A series that is reminiscent of other works that you've already experienced. That is because Mazze is wholly unique. One of the many, many animes that came from the 90's anime boom, one that disappeared right as it was rushed out of the door. Despite having a movie made for it, Maze has disappeared from the anime consciousness almost entirely.
Why is that? Well, the simple fact is Maze has nothing original going for it. Everything has been done better by other anime. But what's interesting about Maze is that it's
...
not just a carbon copy. The things that it does, it does so strangely that it leaves the viewer baffled at just why the series does what it does. From the plot to the characters, not really makes sense from the viewer's perspective of just why these things are happening.
Story:
The story of Maze is interesting, to say the least. We follow our main protagonist, Maze, a young woman who has been transported to a foreign land along with losing her memories. Maze finds herself embroiled in a holy war after meeting the young princess Mill. Together, the two can combine forces to summon and operate a powerful bio-mecha. With this, along with Mazes' powerful "Phantom light power", the two set off on a journey to stop the Gaina holly empire along with a cast of friends they make along the way.
Oh, and Maze transforms into a man at night.
You may notice just how many elements this plot is throwing at you right from the get-go. Mechs, magic, fantasy party, save the princess, gender-swapping. It's all just so, strange. These elements don't mesh very well right from the get-go and the series feels no need to try and make them work. This is before the elements of time travel and universe jumping are introduced later on.
The thing about all of these elements is they feel lifted directly from other, more successful anime at the time. These plot points were all incredibly popular at the time. And it's obvious that Maze tried to shove all of them into one story. Unfortunately, none of them mesh. The story does not work. It switches from comedy "enemy of the week" type tails to a serious mecha holy war to time travel to, well, you get the point.
Overall, a mixed bag of ideas that do not work together. 3/10
Art & Sound:
Nothing much is to be said about Maze in this area. It is the most generic 90's style you can imagine.
But I do want to give a special mention to the dub.
The dub is everything wrong with 90's anime dubs. Bad voice acting. Annoying high-pitched girl sidekick, awful mixing, horrible fight sounds, Engrish songs.
Overall, I'll give it a 6/10 as it is at least ok for when it came out. But the dub is a special treat that cannot be rated.
Characters:
Now here is where Mazes true problems shine. The characters of Maze are awful.
Maze herself is a flat protagonist who does not develop at all throughout the series. Both the male and female versions stagnate throughout the series. Staying as the reserved confused magic using girl and the brave perverted male.
The rest of the supporting cast as well are nothing more than flat tropes who only exist to fill their role in the "fantasy party".
Well, that is for everyone but Mill.
Mill is one of the most confusing characters too me. She's incredibly annoying and unbearable but painted as the likable younger sister character with everyone wanting to protect her. She orbits Maze and will actively try to mess with her relationships with other characters, yet this is treated as endearing.
Speaking of Maze's relationships.....
Everyone is horny for Maze. That's it. All of Maze's relationships, outside of a few, are others lusting after male or female maze. There is nothing more to say here...
Overall, 2/10.
Enjoyment:
If you think Maze is one of those 90's anime's you can put on with friends and take the shit out of, you're not wrong but you're very not right.
The series starts off as one you can enjoy ironically but quickly becomes nothing more than a slog as it quickly loses whatever 90's charm it had.
As a legitimate offering, Maze is mediocre at best. Everything that it provides is done better by other anime. It's action scenes can be enjoyed if you turn off your brain and can put up with Mill's constant whining.
4/10
In closing:
Maze is an interesting anime. An interesting anime that deserved to be forgotten. It is a time capsule of the 90's anime boom. With all its tropes and problems wrapped up into a single package.
Maze did not stand the test of time well. And unearthing it today is not a recommendable experience.

When you first look at Darwin's Game, you may think that it's another edgy cheep survival anime made to cash in on the edgy teen market. Well, you would be wrong because Darwin's game is much worse!
Darwin's game, or as I like to call it "Mom look, I can write a survival anime with a shitty allegory!" is a boring, boring, boring experience. One that drained what little enjoyment I got from the beginning of the series and the idea that the paper-thin "evolution" theme would be taken any further than a way to justify the main character being op.
<story>
The story of darwins game
...
opens interestingly enough for an edgy survival anime. A teenage boy with the power to shoot box cutter blades is murdered by a man dressed as a panda who can turn invisible. Before he dies though, he sends a text to his friend to invite him to the survival game as well. And from here everything is your box standard trash edgy survival anime.
Despite all this, I will give the show credit that the opening is good enough of a start, but does nothing after they deal with the first threat outside of giving the main character an overpowered ability and continually giving him overpowered abilities
We introduce multiple harem members, kill off a few people, then end with one of the worst fight scenes I've ever seen. All in all, 1/10 story
<art>
Darwin's game has a super ugly art style. One that gets MUCH worse as the show goes on. If I'll give it any credit it's not the worst of the worst and at least is watchable.
3/10
<sound>
Same as the art. 3/10
<characters>
This is where Darwin's game shines. The characters are some of the worst I've ever seen. Our main character (who's name I cannot even remember) is bland, boring, and the most stereotypical main character I've ever seen. Even coming with his own "I can't kill!' complex that he abandons when the straw man villain "pushes him too far!!" Our MC also gains huge power spikes out of nowhere. With the "prize" for the treasure hunt arc being the most boring and overpowered ability.
Outside of our MC. We have girl with chains who falls in love with him after one battle, Gun guy. Water girl who thinks she's a boy. And a bunch of people who get introduced then never seen again.
In short, I will remember none of these characters. 1/10
<enjoyment>
I love simple edgy things. They can be fun to enjoy in their own way. But Darwin's game is the worst of all survival game, power fantasy, and surprisingly isekai rolled into a single package. After somehow sitting through this mess in its entirety I was given a promo for a second season and that has killed what little hope I had that 2020 would somehow have some good in it.
Darwin's game is a nightmare to sit through. Even as a contour of edgy trash anime there was nothing to be enjoyed. What little I liked about the first episode was made null by the third and I am a fool for sitting through this show. The fight scenes suck, the characters are awful, the premise and its puddle depth allegory to evolution ae lost entirely due to the writing being impressively stupid. Only watch this if you somehow find yourself in a world as brainless as Darwin's game

If I had to describe Juuni Taisen in one word, it would be "stupid". The show is an edgy, predictable mess with shallow characters and 0 stakes. Each episode you are easily able to predict who will die by who we were introduced to last. This is only the most obvious problem the series suffers from. This list also includes poor world-building (why the fuck is their magic?), really bad sound design, and shitty battle sequences. What's so surreal about these problems though is that this is what battle royal's are supposed to be good at. Along with the fact that every character is
...
as flat at the script leaves you wondering why you should even care about anything that happens. Even if you decide to watch till the end, you are given the most "Look how deep I am" ending with the actual wish the winner asks for.
All in all, this anime is a major waste. There are better garbage battle royale anime like Mirai Nikki. Or better yet, good battle royale anime like Btooom! Which I would recommend over this trash.

King's game is by far one of the best anime that has been released in the last 10 years. For true anime fans who watch this instant classic, they know for sure that King's game is a defining step forward for the genre.
For a long time, many anime like my hero academia have been claimed to have taken this title. But, these anime have been nothing but shallow stories for children. While King's game takes anime BACK to it's roots and delivers a mature story with well written and deep character.
King's game also covers very mature themes including death (obviously), sex and rape, young
...
girls being put into uncomfortable situations, and many more. The death scenes in this are also top notch. Specifically the girls deaths are some of the best in anime and show how mature and deep the medium can get.
The story is also amazing. With many of the girls now ranking in the top of my list of characters of all time.
I would recommend anyone watch this. It is an instant classic.
10/10!
