an Interesting Isekai Hindered by Low-Budget and Pacing Issues
as you can see from the title of this review, i'm very familiar with the source material both novel and manga i even considered it as one of my favorites because the protagonist are quite unique and weird
i already knew the anime gonna be low-budget but holy moly, i really didn't think it's gonna be that "low"
from episode 1 you can already see the struggle on the animation, a lot of the shot are either still shot, badly framed or just have a weird proportion when they are moving
although episode 2 have a lot better animation and
...
consistency, the same problem appeared on Episode 3
and it's probably just me, i felt like some scene look out of focus and a bit blurred.
aaaand now the pacing, episode 1 suffer a lot because in the manga and novel the introduction are quite a slow burn so they probably trying to get everything packed and done in 1 episode but it's not quite working and felt like the whole episode are pace really weird
so far Episode 2 have the best pace and getting a lot of information through without hinder the story progression so much, episode 3 only suffer a bit with pacing with some scene quite literaly removed and use that runtime to another scene that more important and need to flesh out more
i'm still very much enjoying the adaptation and looking forward for all future episode, although i hope the anime adaptation atleast a bit more consistent and have less pacing issues in general, it'll be quite a challenge for the studio since the source material are always a slow burn and moving quite slow from 1 story line to another
but it'll be quite an achievement if they able to deliver them all in 12 episodes, one can hope
7/10

Reincarnated as a Sword
Most people probably would get turned off by "reincarnated..." on the title alone
But honestly, this is one of those isekai that actually telling a complete story, with no your usual Edgy teenager self-insert protagonist and didn't betray their premises by turning the Sword into human so you can relate (Looking at you, slime)
Because, well this anime basically Shounen wrapped in the isekai package
Dead parent? gluttonous MC? start as underdog? Owning a unique power?
yep you got it
[Animation] 9/10
Hands down one of those studio you could see their effort being fateful and try their hardest to make the animation as well as they can
...
despite the budget. The color palettes and overall animation are very standard but when it comes to action scene
You can see the effort they put into it from the choreography, cinematography, the composition, the cut, pacing, and overall tones
On top that, they even putt an effort to make a mob like goblin have individual design and looks different from one another. The use of CGI also very minimal which is quite a surprise considering Shishou design make him quite hard to animate.
[Story] 8/10
The story is your typical isekai plot, dude died and reincarnated to another world, but this time his new body is a sword. But unlike most isekai, he's basically a support character for the female protagonist and father figure of her instead being the main focus.
Meet Fran, a girl from the black cat tribe who lost her parent from an ambush of a slave trader and now living most of her live as slaves.
Until one day, when her caravan attacked by a monster in desperation, she met a talking sword and became its owner. She later name the sword "Shishou" and make a pact that she'll become stronger in order to evolved carrying her parent's dream and eventually prove that her race are not weak.
And so it begins, the journey between father (sword) and daughter (cat) as an adventurer throughout the world
[Character] 10/10
As I mentioned before, there's essentially 2 main protagonists on this anime "Fran and Shishou". The dynamic between them are really cute, basically a father-daughter duo who keep looking out for each other throughout the story.
Fran is a very stoic girl and most of the time seems expressionless, a lot of times she act immature as most 12 years old girl would act, exicted for a new thing, and genuinely have a good heart. Although she's snapped quite easily, especially if someone insults her race for being weak.
And there's where Shishou step in as her father figures, he teaches about lots of things, telling her the right thing to do, scold her for her misdeed and mistakes, and cook her warm food.
Shishou body is a sword, but he able to use telekinesis or manifest a ghost hand to do chores or just aid frame for her everyday life, Fran puts her trust 100% over Shishou and respect him a lot.
Even the side-character is not overbearing or annoying or over praise the MC and tell us every second how godly they are like you see on most isekai
Nell the guild receptionist is very respectable woman and a hardworking one with habbit to badmouth the people annoyed her, she's one of the people Fran saw as allies
Guild master always looks calm but actually suffering from headache from the trouble fran giving him
Garrus the Blacksmith who provides most of grain equipment is teaching both Shishou and Fran about the world
Donadrond the examiner a hard boiled Oni who approved Fran potential, but didn't hesitate to chew her if she's being reckless
Amanda the Mysterious half-elf who's seems have her favoritism toward MC
Spearbro and the gang an absolute comedic relief, and many more
[Overall] 9/10
This is probably one of isekai that's actually good and didn't make me angry for how stupid thing would turn later on.
There's no harem, there's no self-insert MC you need to relate, the character interaction is always fun and interesting, the MC is not overpowering and have to climb really hard to overcome their problem, and Fran is just top notch Cutie

would you look at that? a satire, parody and mocking the absolutely tiresome love triangle/harem manga with twist
delivered on complete package in a one-shot instead 100+ chapter
well you got it!
i said twist but honestly the bread crumb are obvious through every pages which makes the absolute delusion and narcissistic behaviour from the MC (actually, complete bystander and support character) more hillarious in many ways
well even if it's super obvious, the way the author panel and set the mood like an actually romance-harem manga just show how formulatic and tired this genre are, also quite ingenious in a way
and the last pages, just an absolute beautiful piece
...
of art
actually solidified the one-shot as godly, a masterpiece
honestly if you got butthurt by this one-shot because your self-insert male protagonist are get sideway and treated as delusional narcissistic who don't win any?
NICE
this one-shot is up there with other masterpiece such a Holy mountain and 12 Angry men
beautiful

One Underated Anime with simplicity and good story!
Shoushin Shoujou Matoi Probably one Anime that Majority of people didn't watch because it's aired on wrong season About Mahou Shojou ( Where Ikusei Keikaku was Aired so everyone attention will straight to that anime )
Story : ( 9/10)
the story is rather simple, it's about sumeragi matoi , a very ordinary middle school girl one day get attacked by creature called night and suddenly transformed to Exorcist girl from amulet that hands down from her missing mother as granted the power from the god . so her extraordinary day begin as she keep her everyday life and exorcist
...
girl in balance.
so what deal with this story? it's simple, they kept it straight foward without make their viewer shake on various tragedy like madoka and ikusei keikaku did. so this anime really took different road. matoi herself was seeking for her day rather being ordinary, so at first she's really insist to not involved but get dragged by Yuma (her childhood friend) that later became exorcist girl too.
and not to mention most Mahou shoujou animu are focusing on Friendship or love but Matoi anime are different.
they rather focus on matoi and her father awkward relationship since she's was separated from him for couple years. each episode show how they progressing their daughter-father relationship (spoiler : episode 11 are best part)
Art (7/10): the character design are nothing special, but as expected from white fox who done re:zero and Gochiusa anime. they're really put great effort on this anime. their transform mode design are looks really great but sadly other side character and even the night are pretty plain
Sounds (10/10) :
this is one best part of this anime! opening theme are no doubt best one of the season, the rock/enka sung by M.I.A Regina really built a nice tense before the anime started and the ending song from Sphere are sounds tender and sad which potrait how the dramatic sub-plot for matoi and shingo with scene where matoi pick up shingo by bring him a umbrela. not only that, the anime ost are fantastic.
for example, the battle bgm are pretty intense with modern music with some traditional touch on there.
Character (9/10)
Matoi: The main character are the typical cute anime girl you find on a lot anime. she's cute, pessimistic, shy and a bit naive. matoi is someone who just want her everyday life going as ordinary as possible. she's get dragged by her childhood friend and ended fight night everyday.
she's also very clumsly in front of her father but she's trying hard to keep her relationship natural as ever.
Yuma : Matoi Childhood friend, probably opposite of matoi. she's hella cute, very optimistic, brave and LOUD! she's probably the one who kept me interest to this anime. yuma have exorcist bloodline so she's already gifted as one since very young but later her God are sealed by her grandpa. so at first she's kinda annoying and keep drag the MC to dangerous place but after Claris accidently break her seal. she's granted her power from 2 gods and became exorcist girl as well
Claris: to be honest nothing much to tell about her. she's always move and act if only there's command from her supervisor. so until she's friend with yuma and matoi, she's really cold, knight-ish, and mean toward other one. her objective are for revenge her old partner after got attacked by night and fall to coma state. even when she's get along with both of them, clarus still kinda emotionless but later on episode 11, she's finally show her emotion and for the first time denying her supervisor command.
Enjoyment (9/10) : this anime are kinda breath air for Mahou shoujou anime. it's only 12 episode with a lot opposite aspect of mahou shoujou you see nowdays. so you find a lot cliche in this anime but their presentation are somewhat very enjoyable so you kept your interest and keep watching
overall (9/10):
highly recomend this anime if you like something extraordinary yet very ordinary. it's like watching slice of life anime but with some action and story progression. so there's some intense and story plot that keep your interest and invest but there's also some healing factor as we seen a lot on CGDCT anime
