Most of the reviews anyone will read below this are most likely not going to be helpful. That’s due to people either being for or against a ship that is portrayed in this sequel. If anyone wants to know keep reading the next paragraph, if not skip to the other paragraph.

This is a [i]anime-only [/i] sequel to Inuyasha. Inuyasha itself takes place between late 1990s to early 2000s, but a majority of the story is set ... in Feudal Japan. It’s fantasy based so demons are part of the focus and plot to this story. Inuyasha takes place over a year to collect the jewel shards and defeat Naraku, the big bad evil. By itself alone, Inuyasha was great and ended on a high note. It had varying dynamics and gave main, as well as side characters (minus a handful) depth along with character development. Now here’s the drama that is ensuing within the fandom. A certain ship was portrayed in the sequel based off characters from Inuyasha, which would be Sesshomaru and Rin. Sesshomaru is a dai-youkai (in other words a high level [dog] demon). He has been alive for 1000+ years but physically he is placed as 19 [in human years]. Sesshomaru starts off as an antagonist by fighting his younger half-demon brother Inuyasha for a sword that was left by their father. The main reason why Sesshomaru was able to change and become a better person is by meeting and traveling with a child named Rin as well as Jaken. Rin, even though it wasn’t stated except for this character profile book no one provides the page of, has no age but is thought to be at least 8 years old. Here’s where people get the division; some view their relationship as father-daughter, some just view them as traveling companions. The some that view this as familial are disgusted by the hint of the portrayal of the Sessrin ship coming true. Going past that, those some have even started to claim that this ship displays signs of grooming and pedophilia. Although people are allowed their opinions and beliefs, everyone views this differently. The examples to back this up are that (and to keep this short/simple) is
• (Grooming) since Sesshomaru and Rin met at 19/8, even though Rin was left at a human village and Sesshomaru left for long periods of time, he came back with gifts for Rin.
• (Pedophilia) That Sesshomaru did the deed with Rin at the age of 12-15.
It’s been said a million times over the internet about the timeline/ages of the Inuyasha cast. If anyone wants to look that up, please feel free to do so. I will state it in terms of Rin’s age but all the way at the end, that way I can space it out to be clean.

Now to get on to a review of Yashahime. This series has a lot of....everything surrounding it. Please remember, THIS SERIES WAS DONE DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC! In terms of plot and story writing, so far, the story needs a lot for it to make most people interested in it. Keep in mind, the story is suppose to revolve around the NEW GENERATION, not the original. In that regards, this is light and fluffy. It definitely is funny to watch, but will leave anyone feeling that they have more questions than answers. Animation-wise, it can get a bit wonky and a majority of the characters will look so much younger than their ages. It does however fit the theme of this being a show aimed to an audience younger than adults. Lastly then, music-wise, anyone will get nostalgia as some of the OST is used from Inuyasha. The opening and endings, on the other hand, are well done in animation and are very catchy, plus up-beat.

Since this show, as of 1/18/2021, is still ongoing with 8 episodes left within this season, I’m still hoping it will end on a high note. I do also wish for all the characters to get happy endings, and for all my questions to be answered.

Timeline/Rin’s Age:
The anime states that Kagome first travels back to the Feudal Era when she turns 15 in 1997. As said before, Rin is assumed to be 8 years old when she is first introduced in the show.

The storyline of Inuyasha takes place in the span of a year. Leaving Kagome at 15/16, and Rin at 8/9. Due to some reasons, Kagome isn’t allowed to travel back in time for 3 years.

A time skip occurs leaving these two characters at 18/19 and 11/12. In the first episode of Yashahime, it’s said to be 6 months after the end of Inuyasha. However 1 more month has to be added from information given in episode 15. That then leaves Kagome at 19/20, while Rin would be 12/13.

Going back to episode 1, the main characters (Towa, Setsuna, Moroha) are said to be 14 years old [in the present]. Episode 15 states that the beginning of those events take place 18 years ago. From there, 18 years minus the girls age would give us a 4 year time skip (that is poorly addressed).

Adding that to the last ages given, Kagome would be 23/24 and Rin would be 16/17 when the last events of episode 15 take place.

It’s rather short so you can finish it in 20 minutes or less.

The manga is rather cliche about a boy and girl who were/are childhood friends are reunited once they’re teenagers. Low and behold after a few interactions, they like/reveal that they like each other.

The story isn’t bad, but again it’s nothing I haven’t seen before. Despite that the male protagonist is rather enjoyable especially with the facial expressions.

Beside that I won’t say anymore to not give much away beside the major plot (but you can see that from miles away) to leave it up to anyone who wants to give this ... a chance.

TL;DR: I reiterate, this is a quick read and I do recommend if you don’t mind it being a bit cliche. Also if you end up enjoying it, great. Don’t be surprised though if you feel like it ends rather abruptly.

I really don’t have to give a summary of what this manga/web manga is about; there are already multiple reviews stating it from various points of views.

Before starting, know that there are only 34 chapters published, HOWEVER online you are able to read all 112 chapters.



Now, to my review.
(I’ll try not to spoil anything if anyone wants to read this)
TD;RL: The beginning of the manga is frustrating, but the author manages towards the end to redeem the characters and end on a high note. Despite my low score xD.

... Overall the plot...
Is very....frustrating because of the usual plot device authors use to keep readers in suspense. That is no communication. It’s present throughout 2/3 of the manga if I’m not incorrect. Resulting in the characters to react terribly and make matters worse. However, the one redeeming quality in this is that the reactions of the characters realistically portray one-side of human nature. Regardless it is off-putting and I myself found it disappointing that this was the major plot device that the story revolves around.

So if that extremely pisses you off, I recommend you steer away from this manga.

Remember that this work is based primarily on romance, so you will definitely get your fill of love PG love scenes. And to some they could be rather mushy, but I’m a sucker for romance so I have to admit, they did make me smile a little.


Moving on from that, the characters were very...
Wishy washy. As in they go back and forth, forever indecisive until a certain point. And it may portray some teenagers to a T, but this is a fair warning before going in. Yet again though, the author manages to get these characters to get their acts together, realize their mistakes, and (we can only hope) better themselves after you’ve read at least half the manga. At least one can say the author is consistent in how the characters react to situations. Oh, a highlight character for me would be Hasumi. He’s the comedic relief, and yes he does have his wishy-washy moment as well. But he seems more like this funny, rascally gentleman.


Now the art.
I rated that rather highly compared to everything else. I enjoyed how clean and smooth all of it was. The backgrounds I would say are about the same as well, but I didn’t pay too much attention to them ^^’. But what really captured my attention was their eyes, and facial expressions.


Other than that...oh the ending!
It was rushed. So if you give this manga a chance and feel that as well, don’t worry you’re not alone. Even so, the author does deliver a proper ending, not leaving the readers with questions (besides how are the characters in the future?). So that’s a plus in my books after too many great stories having terrible endings.


And as blunt as that was, that’s my review. I hope it helps anyone with their decision to read or not to read. If you do give it a chance, hopefully you enjoy it. The chapters are rather short so you’d be able to finish within a day if you choose to. If you passed then, thank you for reading this review and I hope you enjoy the next work you end up reading.

Okay so after binge-reading the whole series (literally my eyes started to burn by the afternoon), I finished Deadman Wonderland.
I haven't read many or any horror mangas to be honest, but I would assume this would be in my top 10. However, this manga is not for the faint of heart especially if you can't handle blood or gore.
As told above, you start with gore within the first chapter or two.


LIKES...
# It's beautifully drawn and with such precise detail it's awe worthy. But even saying so, don't go in thinking this is the most unique or best I've seen. To each their own.

# Typically ... most arts trying to incorporate horror, just stuff it to death with gore. This manga excelled in my opinion because it tried to deviate from the path by having a decent plot with many twists that I didn't expect to happen. The comedic relief helped this manga not just to move it along, but provide a break from the action and horror.

# Developments & backstories. You know what took me by surprise is the characters besides Ganta. Their character developments are bittersweet because they grow into better people, but you find out their tragic pasts that no one should go through :c Yet when they are put to the test, each character overcomes their pasts and then puts their best foot forward, striving to live a better life than the ones they were dealt with. Fanta also grows into a man (oh la la~?) with each passing chapter, and he is not even comparable to his character at the start of the manga.


DISLIKES....
# Revealing the I identity of the Red Man. This is not what ticked me off, but I feel they should have waited to reveal who it was for further in the manga. It made the big revelation for Ganta to be less savory. I would have loved to find out with Ganta, instead I could tell right from the beginning who it was.

# The ending....I feel cheated....Like WTF? It was an okay ending but honestly it felt like it was ended too quickly. And I don't know if it was me or what, but it seemed as if the last chapters were out of order. I honestly could not believe that it was over when it was over.

# Let’s get the first thing out of the way! I do not know how the author managed, but they put drama in every, single, chapter. Yes from chapter 1 to 99. Albeit that most of the drama was cliche and you could spot it from a mile away, but wow that is a record. After reading 99 chapters in one sitting, all the constant drama was getting annoying. Everyone could use breathers and a pause from some of the eye-rolling I was doing.

# This plays up the “ideal” couple. Now when I say that yes they do have their flaws, but overall they are ... happy, and faithful just to name two. And before anyone can tell me that it does happen in real life, yes it does. But it is soooo rare so the “ideal” couple is not something everyone can resonate with and raises the bars for guys/girls. But again they had flaws, which was great. They could grow and become better people together and that was something to read this manga for.

# This manga felt like life lessons were thrown one after one at me. They were sly but it felt like that nonetheless. One being decide your own path for yourself. Work together and support each other, each other’s dreams and wishes. respect. Happiness takes work. You can always change and better yourself if you choose to.

# The side characters were just brought in when needed or for a side gag. That’s all. Only 2 get major improvements to themselves, but after that poof. And yes, I get it, they aren’t needed overall but they shouldn’t be dumped either, but thats something I greatly believe. For one example, I actually thought that Tsubaki and Sakura’s father wasn’t in the picture until I saw him in ONE PANEL around chapter 80.

# [SPOILER]
I am not a big fan of having the guy force themselves on a girl. And that happened in the first few chapters (although there wasn’t any sex, that happens WAY later). Even if it is a kiss or undressing someone, no. I extremely dislike when the male characters (based off the majority I’ve read/seen) do this.

# Apparently, in most places you try to read this, some of the pages are scanned terribly and/or missing translations. So sometimes its just plow through and try to enjoy by zooming in.

# To stop my ranting about the negatives, let’s go to the positive. The story flowed so smoothly. The romance parts were well written.

# Art I would say rates a 8/10 for me.
Also side note, for some reason this reminded me of Lovely Complex? I can’t say why nor was it the art solely but there was something there that led me to that thought.

# The drama as much as I complained that there was a lot, was not dragged out. And the whole story didn’t dwell on one thing for too long that ended up killing it. The ending was great as well, it left you happy for the main characters without spoiling it too much.

# The characters, the emotions, and even some of the experiences can and will definitely resonate with readers.

# It was definitely cute overall, but I felt there were parts missing for me to truly enjoy it as a completed work of art.

# I was so confused on some parts. One being the timing of it all; say, sometimes I couldn’t tell if it was the same day or a new day. The other was the characters. So many names were literally thrown in my face all at once that I had no idea who was who, and just had to keep guessing until I got confirmation.

# [SPOILER]
I felt Yuusuke and Shiika being together wasn’t necessary? I’m sorry if that offends anyone ... but honestly you get that they were together for 4 years, slowly as time passed they drifted apart until he in the end chose baseball over her. Well let me tell you, first from the set up of the cover you could already tell who was going to end up together. Second, I read around 5 chapters (if I’m not wrong?) about how they tried to mend their relationship until it just died out, when a simple flashback could have sufficed. Maybe it was for the purpose of Yuusuke or Shiika not being viewed as bad guys for not trying? Either way it was too obvious and felt unnecessary to dedicate so many chapters for them. Third, the only comparison we get about their relationship is that they were happy and lasted 4 years. Again, that all could have been summarized in a flashback. It didn’t really do anything for me in the current plot of the manga.

# The interactions between the characters were cute and light-hearted. It gave it that warm vibe of family and friendship like shoujo is know for.

# The bomb that Megumi dropped was to say the least, unexpected. I mean never in a million years did I think he would say that’s his reason for everything happening.

# [SPOILER]
Everything....got resolved quickly. I know that’s a major contradiction to saying Yuusuke and Shiika’s relationship could’ve been summarized in a flashback, but I mean making amends with Yuri was done in 1,2,3 after it having been many years. The characters getting together as well. Akira and Shiika making up (even though it’s great because that’s the type of friendship I’d love; sticking together through it all), the characters getting together. It all left me wanting more, and as if there was so much potential for more....but it was already done. Like the end. Although it did end off on a sweet note.
