Lovely, lovely, lovely. I'm late to the party but this is a must-watch for any fan of Lupin the 3rd. However I don't know how good it would be as someone's first exposure to the ever-expanding Lupin Cinematic Universe.
This really feels just like an extended and more colorful version of the old Lupin episodes, mixed in with some of that old-school animation and sound charm. I was never bored throughout the entire film; the pacing is well balanced between action scenes, slapstick comedy, and the occasional slow/dramatic moments.

I think there's a lot of merit to judging an anime not on what it tells you, but what it shows you. Days, an anime about football, or American Soccer as it's called in the rust belt, wants to tell me that football is an exciting daring sport where any boy, beefy or lanky, can play his heart out. However, the message it shows is that football is a boring sport only Europeans could love. What's far, far more important is boys' love.
