So, you want to study psychology? Well, here’s an anime that’s yet you do nothing but watch a guy go on about it for the entire first part of the series! The main character, as it is very apparent in the first episode, is a fanatic for philosophical theories, concepts, and debates. The problem, however, is that the first few episodes are all a bait. This isn’t what you were expecting, and now the whole show flipped and turned into a fighting anime.
-Minor spoilers below the line. Nothing big and mostly a couple of dialogue references. And a reference to a scene here or there.
...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I watched the first episode, began to understand what kind of anime Caligula was, and thought “hey, this might be a bit interesting.” But then, the twist happened. Now, in a lot of first episodes, twists are methods of hooking the viewer, defining the genre of that anime, and overall attracting attention to the series through surprise and delight. It was used and executed well in “Gakkou Gurashi,” “Sankarea,” “Space Dandy,” and a couple of others. However, there are occasions where an anime utilizes a twist in the wrong way, leading to the alienation, confusion, or complete disinterest of the viewer. This show dipped into both the good aspects and the bad of plot twists. For one, it certainly surprised me, as I thought it would be another high school anime, but it also left me confused and semi-disinterested. I didn’t expect it to be an isekai battle anime (yes, by definition, this counts as an isekai anime) with superpowers. I also didn’t want it to be an isekai battle anime. By including tons and tons of philosophical ideas, it attracted a more tranquil, patient audience and turned away the shounen battle freaks through its focus on dialogue and not action. However, the complete gear shift from profound thoughts to punch-outs then alienated the audience it had appealed to in its first three episodes. In fact, after episode 3 or 4 (I can’t remember) the heavy focus on psychologic philosophy disappeared, and all that was left were a couple of references spread out in the following 8 episodes.
If battle type anime are your cup of tea though, have at it. The show is basically misfits of the real world desperately trying to return to that world which cast them aside. This review is simply my opinion of the show, and in from my POV, it was borderline decent. There’s nothing else I feel like writing out in a paragraph, so here’s a pro/con list:
Pros:
1. The songs are nice.
2. There a one really cool looking fight scene that I won’t forget.
3. The artistic expression of µ was beautiful.
4. µ behaved like an actual open-learning AI, giving off a slight sense of realism.
Cons:
1. CG characters as background characters.
2. Half the battles are the protagonists shouting “I wanna go home.”
3. They overly villainize the so-called villians, even though the show is based on expressing that everyone was a victim of society.
4. There is no explanation for the chibi character. “I am similar to µ” is the only explanation we get, and her whole presence feels out of place.
5. A lack of explanation as a whole for certain scenes and occurrences. Leaves the viewer often confused.
And if you wanted one of those summary lists that everyone does, here it is:
• Music: 7
• Characters: 3-7 (depending on the character)
• Art: 6
• Plot: 5
• Enjoyment: borderline 6
• Overall: 6

Pikotarou no Lullaby Lullaby is, at its core, a VERY Japanese show. I don't think it should even be considered an anime. This would be one of those shows that'd be in the intermission of a TV series.
Basically, the anime is about bedtime stories, with their very own 'Pikotarou twist' to them. Some of these short stories are globally known, so they're more entertaining to watch. However, due to the cultural boundaries of Japan, many stories have Japanese folk tale based in them, so most people wouldn't get the references implemented into them. Personally, I knew all of the stories (so far at least) so
...
I find the show entertaining. However, when I introduced it to a friend, he found it extremely boring. Taking his words "This sounds more like a Japanese podcast. It doesn't look like an anime, sound like an anime. Why is this even on kiss?"
Art-2
The artist is certainly better than me, so it isn't a 1, but there really is no animation. One background 2-4 character models, 2 or 3 poses of said character, and that's all there is to the show's illustrations.
Sound-5
At least Pikotarou is trying. He does perform each character very well, but I do think only having one voice actor is hindering the show. As for the ending, I love it, but it's too short-just like the show.
Character-8
Pikotarou plays each character as that character-meaning he's doing well. I don't think anymore could be said in this category.
Enjoyment-7
This certainly isn't an anime, but that doesn't hinder it from being entertaining.
In conclusion, this was very similar to peeping life. It isn't an anime (which keeps it from being good) but it's good comedy (if you get it.) However, don't get your hopes up if you want to watch is. It's short and sweet, but IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. :)

So, I've noticed the many hateful reviews given to this anime. Despite its magnificence, many are hating on it. Some of these reviews seem to be written just for likes, and others just for trolling. I will attempt to make this review something that will truly evaluate this animated story of Re:Zero.
WARNING- may contain minor spoilers
Story- 10
The story is very simple: The protagonist wants to save people from death. In doing so, he dies, but reincarnates himself upon failure. So, what is it that makes this memorable? Answering that would be a spoiler, but the best way to describe it is failure. Everyone experiences failure.
...
You, me, the guy down the street, and especially Subaru. he gets a failure stamp on his back as he continues to struggle, to fail, to try, and to destroy himself over and over and over again. In doing so, he kills himself, no longer being motivated by saving, but by desperation. He displays the average human among the beasts, magicians, and demons in his world. It also shows what would truly happen to a human in a different world. Many anime play this off by giving the protagonist a powerful sidekick, a "special power", a weapon, or luck(looking at you Konosuba.) The anime gives the protagonist ABSOLUTELY nothing. That is, if you forget the reincarnation. Even then, reincarnation doesn't help his survivability, it just gives you another chance, like a video game. When you lose in a video game, it doesn't give you cheat codes, or weapons, or the power of friendship. It just gives you the option to retry. But, when ignoring reincarnation, it gives nothing, takes everything, and kills your dreams of living in a parallel world in a realistic way.
Art/Sound- 9
These to are mainly put together because they shouldn't be the main focus of anime. The main focus should be the story. Art and sound should only be there to support, not to be a major category.
That said, the art and sound are great. The openings and endings fit perfectly to the anime's theme, and the soundtrack also fits well. the artwork had a few flaws, such as some parts being in 3D instead of being animated. HOWEVER, that happens once every 10 episodes. It's a flaw, but an extremely small one. In conclusion, the art and sound both fit the anime like sidekicks fit to main characters.
Characters- 9
The characters all work well with the story. Subaru, the main character, almost displays a human perfectly. He has flaws, goes for girls, occasionally acts weird, and has flaws. Did I mention he has flaws. Well, he has flaws. Subaru isn't perfect, which is very refreshing when watching other anime. Most of the time, protagonists are special, where either their physicality, combat ability, perception, or anything else is top notch. Almost all anime protagonists have a top-notch skill or ability. Not Subaru. He isn't special, and could be replaced by many other males from earth. He might be strong, but punches don't work on magic. He may be enthusiastic, but enthusiasm doesn't help him. He may be the protagonist, but that doesn't mean he gets special attention. He's normal. He's average. That's what makes him special.
Emilia was created out of an ideal. She was created out of other waifus to be the ultimate waifu. She's nice, strong(but not too strong) and perfect. Everyone would love her as a girlfriend. Despite this, everyone hats her because of her resemblance to someone else. That shows realism, because most anime have a completely perfect character. This anime shows that perfection could be the cause of imperfection.
Rem should not be listed as a side character. Although she is the ultimate support character, she has almost as many, if not more lines than Emilia, and should've been the main girl in many people's perspective. Rem is also strong, nice, and beautiful, but is stuck as a maid, caring for and looking after the other characters. Yet another case of amazingness lessened because of something realistic. Missed opportunity. Or, opportunities never given to her. Another case of realistic tragedy.
All other characters are basic supports. Rem's sister, Ram, Puck, the apple man, felt, Julis, Feliz, the other crown contendors, and the list goes on and on. they all have something in them that's memorable. I am really bad with names, yet I doubt I will forget anyone here.
Enjoyment- 10
I don't have to explain myself. This review does it for me. Re:Zero is incredible, and you should watch it.
Overall- Just watch it
Just watch it.
