Ping Pong the Animation

Recommended I'll just say this first, it’s nothing less than a perfect masterpiece Plot: "The hero comes. The hero comes. The hero comes. Chant these words in your mind, and I'll surely come to you..." This mantra is what Makoto Tsukimoto repeats as a source of motivation when he fights through the stress of not only gruelling ping pong matches, but also in situations of his life. Makoto doesn't fight alone; he and his friend, Yukata Hoshino, nicknamed “Smile” and “Peco” respectively, are two boys who have grown up playing ping pong together nearly every day. Peco, brimming with confidence, aims to be the best table tennis player ...

Mirai no Mirai

This has got to be the most wholesome anime movie I have seen…
Story and Theme: The movie beautifully showcases the one-sided sibling rivalry we see amongst a firstborn and a newborn who is just a year or two younger than the former. The elder child feels secluded from their parents love and feel the younger kid is snatching away the love and affection which was solely reserved for him. And finally coming to terms with the fact that your parent won’t be giving you as much time for there is someone who needs them more, as well as coming to love your sibling and acting ... mature, as an elder sibling should. Such events led to an elder kid developing either a bully attitude or maybe if he comes to an understanding, the attitude of a person who would protect his sibling, no matter what. In real life, managing such a task is quite an unfathomable feat, bring up both kids in a manner such that they come to acknowledge and love each other. Parents have to go through quite a lot, managing their personal lives, work and taking care of their kin when they are at such a tender age. This movie addresses all these issues, problems that parents face, kids face and solutions but given this is an anime movie, we have a twist, there is a supernatural element involved which makes our protagonist, the older sibling, go through his character development. So we have a tree, in their garden which seemingly contains memories of everyone who has lived in this family, the ones who are no longer alive and ones who will become a part of it in future. Every time our protagonist feels a dilemma, struggles to come to term with his emotions in a given scenario, the tree shows him memories of people from future and past who inspire him and he comes to terms with his emotions and comes to an understanding growing more and more as a person. Our boy, Kun, frustrated with his parents doting on the newly born Mirai, runs into the future, middle school-aged version of his sister, along with their anthropomorphic dog and the scientific implications are quickly abandoned because time travel isn't the point. the following moments and subsequent meeting with other members of his family, learning from each encounter, all events focus on heart-warming wholesome scenarios rather than that visually sensational sci-fi. So the movie is cut into these small scenarios and parts, all of which lead to the ultimate goal of, making the protagonist coming to terms with his feelings for the younger sibling. Characters: We can see the actual development of Kun throughout the movie. How he goes around from being a jealous kid who is ignorant of the problems of the adult and necessities of the infant (just like any other kid would think) to a responsible and loving elder brother, who accepts his younger sister, understands the problems his parents are facing, and instead of giving up on things, fights on to achieve his goals. All these changes are due to his interaction with his family members from the past and future who inspire him and Kun realises his mistakes and how can he change for the better. The parents were the embodiment of an average family, trying to cope up with work and keeping the children happy, they want to have a negative influence on their child, they don’t wish to lose their temper or scold the young Kun for his childish innocence and ignorance. As his mother goes to work, the father stays home and tries to manage the housework and the kids. We can see the changes in the parent's lives and how much pressure there is on parents and their undying love towards their kin. Animation and Sound: It is by the same studio which made wolf children, studio Chizuru, very similar animation, the camera angles and overall cinematography seemed appealing. CGI was very well used here, clean, realistic and dynamic. The shots made from the sky below, pulling back the camera from behind a motorcycle, you feel overwhelmed by the precision and flamboyant perspective of the shot. The scenes during the climax were filled with beautiful and eccentric colours, designs, different animation styles coming together in a single shot enhancing the overall view and intensifying the moment. Characters are very well designed, there aren’t any special details to faces or eyes, but the overall art suits the kind of movie it was. Like it didn’t need to have those crazy features you see in some other movies, this is a movie targeted towards perhaps the younger audience. And simplicity is the key here. Smooth movements, wonderful colour schemes, nothing too flashy or overly refined. Fairly decent, well-composed OST, music hits well when it is there. Conclusion: Like I said in the starting, this is the most wholesome anime movie I’ve seen yet, I had a smile on my face for the entire run of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Excellent movie to watch with your friends, family and, I would especially recommend watching this with your sibling, it might resurface some old stories or memories hidden deep inside your subconscious mind. Anyone can see this movie, new or old weeb, go for it. Although yes, the movie would be enjoyed more by younger kids and older teens, in my opinion. If you seek a serious, intense or depressing slice of life. This is the complete opposite of that. It is a depression destroyer.

Animation:
Let’s start with the best aspect of the movie, this is the best low poly animation I have seen. The entire city, the buildings, the environment, the flame, smoke everything is low poly. For those who don’t know, low poly means the shapes of objects are in pure shapes, polygons, triangles, with edges and vertices visible. And it might seem weird for smoke, wind and fires to have shapes, but the way trigger has worked their magic, you are just left in awe, and overwhelmed by the animation. The way the camera moved, and the way the perspective changed, moving flawlessly around the fight scenes, ... giving us an overall view of the characters, zooming in and out at perfect timing, while being in combat, focusing on every single point of detail that could be possibly fit inside a frame and smoothly changing from frame to frame without disturbing the harmony created by the elements constituting the beauty of the show, is a sight to behold. One side of the conflict is made up of squares, the other by triangles, while their powers and the battle taking place is detailed with polygons. One side is blue, the other is pink. One side is cold, the other is hot. Every silhouette is optimal. Every character design, robot design, vehicle design, machinery and their corresponding colour palates are unrivalled in their simplicity and their clarity. The CG is used in such a beautiful way, it’s hard to explain vocally, the attention to detail, movement, camera, designs, background, was perfect beyond words. The colours used were so unique and added such character and class to the moments amplifying the details such that the visual input received by the eyes far exceeded the processing capacity of the brain, and one feels taken back by what they see. Just excellent work on that one, Classic trigger. Plot: The story was fairly predictable, the framework of the script was cliché. so, in this world 30 years ago, some humans got supernatural powers of being able to control the fire which emerged from their self, they could guide the fire to take any shape and form, and they have to live with it. Naturally, the majority of humanity was afraid of these beings, called “burnish” who could spontaneously combust anything, giving them the title of terrorists. They don’t believe in taking life, but can’t suppress their natural craving for letting their fire loose. So, we have an organisation, who deal with these fires, firefighters, and our protagonist is a new member, who is reckless, overly passionate, has a strong sense of justice and has a wrong idea about the burnish like everyone else. classic cliché character and story. None the less, it remains intriguing and fun to watch. Sound: Excellent sound direction. The super hype and awesome songs, to the vibing music themes of characters, to the emotional music which intensified feels. Conclusion: So, we have an outstanding animation, simple to understand story, awesome music and characters. Go for it. It’s an amazing show to watch with friends, or even if you are alone, it will entertain you even if u don’t love it. It’s, in general, a good movie to watch if you want to divert your mind from a serious thriller show or you want to get your mind off of things or if you just want to put something on and chill. Anyone can watch this one, it’ll be entertaining for all age groups. If you are looking for a psychological and serious thriller, you won’t find it here. It’s more of a relaxed, laid back and hype movie. If possible, try to watch this on a bigger screen, laptop or tv, so that you can see every single detail, colours, animation, etc which make this movie substantial.

Yoru wa Mijikashi Arukeyo Otome

Keeping the original spirit alive, relatability to the concepts and making things relaxed adding to the overall entertainment. This movie is the sequel to Yuasa Masaki’s masterpiece, Tatami Galaxy. And boy have they kept the original spirit alive with the absolute randomness and ridiculousness or Yuasa Masaki. Just brilliant.
Story and theme: The movie revolves around our 2 protagonists and the night they spend in the streets of Kyoto. If you wonder just what all can they show in a single night and what all is even possible. This movie will give you quite a pleasant surprise and trust me no matter how hypothetical or unrealistic it ... feels, once you let go of your pre-set perspective, you will be amazed at the sheer absurd and sublime adventures of the night. So our main protagonist is a raven haired maiden (tatami galaxy reference) who believes in letting things be decided by destiny and follow the thread of fate. From going out to drinking at a bar, to challenging the literal yakuza boss of the area to a drink off and actually winning! In contrast to her beliefs, we have our male protagonist, her senpai who believes in creating opportunities and destiny. He tries to get involved directly or indirectly with her, meeting her at random places and just shrugging it off as a mere coincidence. Hoping to create the thread of fate. So throughout the night, we see the girl just going wild, doing whatever the opportunity in front of her presents, so from drinking and beating a yakuza at it, to being a part of a guerilla theatre performance taking place across the city to searching for her favourite childhood book-in a temporary book mart. And her senpai tries to go through all lengths to meet her in all those different places and has to go through lots of troubles and challenges, but ultimately fails in meeting her and conveying his feelings. The main theme of this movie, correlates to the main theme of the tatami galaxy, that there is nothing like rose-coloured college life. Voluntarily bringing about a change in destiny or maybe trying to create that perfect thread of fate, might not actually bring out the most desired result. What matters is living in the “now” rather than wondering about “what can be”. Art and animation: Well like I said, this is a Masaki movie, so the animation is not exactly the classic raw, wavy, and freehand drawing Masaki provides us with every time. This one visually seemed more realistic and believable. Only in context to the background and world design. We got a very similar type of character designs as we did in the tatami galaxy, but what I want to put emphasis on here is that unlike the tatami galaxy, in which there was focus on the 4.5 mat tatami room. Here the nightlife of Kyoto is depicted in a really beautiful manner. Every crevice of the city is brimming with life and abstract design to match the surreal events of the story, we follow characters into flashy colourful lights on the streets, pubs filled alleyways, bustling market places, and a futuristic and highly technological control centre with hundreds of screens, adds to the overall surreal factor of the anime, making it seem like a dreamland. Characters: We get to see some of the same characters from the tatami galaxy, like Higuchi, Hanuki, Jougasaki, Kaori (more or less), Johnny. And we got characters inspired from the tatami galaxy like here we had a god of old used books, who was basically a younger version of Ozu. All of them were just like they were in the tatami galaxy, but we also got the introduction of many new characters too. The upbeat enthusiasm of our raven-haired maiden is bound to cheer you up, and the ways she carries on the message that the tatami galaxy had to deliver was very well showcased. She moved on, never being bothered about the result of the outcome and carried along as her destiny guided her. Our male protagonist might not be the best MC right off the bat, but as we get to see more of him, you actually start understanding what he is planning on, and might actually be able to relate to him. The side characters were a treat to watch too, all had a specific personality and stayed true to it throughout the series with quite some actual development and closure to their stories. Sound: This was a pretty major factor in the movie. Starting off from the general OST, whenever the girl went out to drink, crashing at different pubs and parties, we had this particular party, hype music with traditional instruments, and man that was a really good add on especially with those dance moves. Music changed with different scenarios, and the themes fit perfectly with the art. Okay, now the main focus on the OST. This was perhaps one of the most unique anime movies I have seen in which we had guerilla theatres, showcasing a musical drama, which symbolises the meaning behind the anime while supplementing and adding on to the character development and progression of the main theme itself. So the drama had musical dialogues, and the music changed, from instruments to themes and emotions and the way they progressed and went about those dialogues and romantic developments taking place via a musical was so wholesomely bewildering, I literally clapped at one point. Conclusion: The best way to actually enjoy this movie would be by neglecting all common sense, and actually just appreciating the randomness and moments, and let it entertain you as the director wanted it to. Needless to say, you should watch the tatami galaxy before coming to this one. Even though both of them aren't related in any other way besides having some similar characters and the same theme. But if you are planning on watching this, try to focus on what the movie wants to show instead of trying to make sense out of every little thing. The movie has a bigger message to provide, which would be left unnoticed if one is bothered about the realism of the movie. If you like Yuasa’s work, it would be a mistake to miss this one. If you don't watch sequel movies, it's understandable, but missing out on this one would be a big mistake. So go check this out.

Tonikaku Kawaii
(Anime)
add

Tonikakku Kawaii:
Basically, take every single cliche cookbook you can find in every rom-com anime, and remove that… that my friends, is Tonikakku Kawai. THE best rom-com anime of fall 2020. Story and Theme: In every other rom-com anime, what we usually get is slow and steady development. The protagonist generally isn’t liked by others, but somehow comes across this one girl who likes something about his personality that others don’t like or don’t see. They work together, go out, people assume they are in a relationship, we might get to see some casual bullying from the popular kids, threats, discrimination from a peer group of girls or ... rest of the class. But all these things strengthen their bonds further. They go out on school trips and finally get some alone time, where something special happens, at night time and fireworks behind them, and we might get a confession. Finally, after knowing a lot about one another, they finally get into a wholesome relationship, and if you are lucky enough, you might get a final kiss at the end of the 12 episodes. This is what generally we get to see in most of the cliche, vanilla, wholesome rom-com anime out there. But now let me discuss how Tonikakku Kawaii progressed. If you haven’t noticed by the memes already, this anime freaking starts with the protagonists getting married in the first episode itself. All because of a simple promise, and the sheer power of simpness. The anime starts with our male protagonist, Yuzaki Nasa, yes you guessed right, the man is a genius, after dedicating his life to study and optimising everything to live up to his name, Nasa. One night he comes across, the most beautiful female he has seen, Tsukasa Tsukiyomi. Trying to reach her, Nasa is hit by a truck, saved by Tsukasa, who walks away. But this is where the simpness starts. After getting hit Nasa passes out only after running to Tsukasa, confessing his feelings to her, with broken legs and extreme blood loss and agreeing to her terms about marrying her if he is serious about getting in a relationship with her. Time leap, two years pass by, no word from Tsukasa, Nasa falls into depression, and finally, when he turns 18 Tsukasa returns to his apartment somehow and brings along with marriage registration forms. This is where the anime actually starts. From here starts the journey of a young but legally married couple, who get to know each other as the story progresses, with absolute wholesome fluff moments and all the anti-cliche stuff you can imagine. Things that the protagonists usually think about but don’t act on in every single other anime happens here. When you feel some or something is going to ruin an upcoming wholesome moment like we get to see in every other anime, that doesn’t happen here, the moment happens and you are left confused and utterly speechless because you never see it coming. What Kenjiro Hata (the mangaka) has done is taken every single wholesome and cute moment which exists in every rom-com anime. And he made it happen, without any cockblocks. Moreover, all those moments occur at a steady pace, one after another, every episode leaves you wanting for more fluff, and makes you anticipate what could we possibly get in the next episode. Another thing I noticed in this was, how easy things become once you take out the relatives and parents factor out of the equation. Just two young couples hanging out, living their lives together with no one to judge them or present their views, like we get to see in certain other rom-coms. Things become more wholesome, and lesser restrictions on the possibilities. Characters: Starting with Nasa. So we have a genius, who is fairly skilled and has knowledge about science, efficiency and a lot of general stuff which you wouldn’t expect a general guy to know. The biggest thing was, he isn’t dumb headed like a lot of harem and rom-com protagonists, neither is he depressed nor seeking something. Nasa doesn’t have a tragic or sad backstory, just a smart guy, who has been living a positive and healthy lifestyle with strong morals. This again is very different from the characters of most rom-coms. Tsukasa’s character is, perhaps the most mysterious one here. Throughout the 12 episodes, we haven’t been given any backstory to Tsukasa. No information about her real parents, where she came from, how was she treated at her home, why aren’t her parents concerned about her, why have they not come to meet her yet, and lastly, what was the reason for her to marry Nasa and put up that condition. We only know she is a mad fan of movies, a wonderful cook, and a loving wife. The only person she has closest as a relative is her non-blood related younger sister, Chitose Kaginoji. Chitose is strongly against Nasas and Tsukasa’s marriage, as she doesn’t consider Nasa to be worthy of her sister as she herself doesn’t know Nasa. So throughout the series, we see Chitoses futile attempts at trying to destroy the relationship of Nasa and Tsukasa, which is usually pretty light and nothing serious, she could be called perhaps the “annoying” character we see in the anime. But she is still way tame and non-annoying than most of the other characters we see in some anime. She does nothing to harm their relationship in a big way, neither do we get to see any psychological drama here. Lastly, we have the kouhai of Nasa, Arisugawa Kaname, who is handling the bathhouse which was supposedly saved from shutting down by Nasa’s aid. She pokes and teases Nasa a lot as her junior, but she respects him more than anyone. Now her character was pretty well made, besides teasing Nasa, she gives him insight into how a relationship could be strengthened and what all are dos and don’ts. Without her intervention or suggestions, we would have missed out on a lot of wholesome moments. So she doesn’t just tease, she actually serves an important purpose in their story. Art/Animation and Sound: Now, this is where the anime sort of lacks. We definitely don’t have the best animation or art style one would expect. There are a lot of rom-coms that excel in this field. But in Tonikawa, having the best animation or art isn’t really the point. We have the most basic and simple anime style one could have. Suitable for a seasonal. But doesn’t bother one much. Pretty much the same for the OST, nothing special. But the opening was a total banger. “Koi no Uta” is perhaps the only dubstep anime op this season. Really gotta love the way the music changes. Conclusion: So we have perhaps the most wholesome, cute, relationship speedrun rom-com anime. Which fucking starts with marriage and then the characters get to know each other, without any psychological drama, annoying characters, or parental pressure and trouble. Just wholesome moments. It would be a big mistake not to watch this one if you love rom-coms, this is a must-watch. Doesn’t really matter if you are new or old to anime, you are definitely going to love this one. Great for a group watch too, just mah hart, mah souls, mah body moments. Go for it.

Mononoke:
“Men are born in this world, and Ayakashi comes into being. If birth and being are accompanied by truth and regrets, they gain a form. If they gain a form they become a Mononoke which should not exist.” Theme: So if you can't already figure it out even after reading the quote. Mononoke is a complete concept based anime. Set in a comparatively modern era, with Edo like atmosphere. We have a medicine seller whose actual work is to actually travel and get rid of such oddities born out of human emotions and regrets called a Mononoke. And to kill a Mononoke he needs to know 3 ... things about it. Firstly it’s Katachi (shape/form), Makoto (truth), and Kotowari (reason) of the spirit. The truth is the state of its being, and the regret is the state of its emotions/mind. Knowing these things allows the medical seller to draw his sword to cleans the Mononoke of its fate. The story consists of 12 episodes divided into 5 arcs all consisting of a Mononoke from Japanese folklore. And in all these 5 arcs, we have different characters and regions. The only character constant throughout the story is our protagonist. Each story provides us with a different scenario with more philosophy and food for thought. Each containing a mystery and an expected dark truth hiding being shadowed by characters. It is pretty much a mystery horror anime. There was a lot of Japanese culture and social references in the anime, such as the characters, story setting and even the voice acting. We will come to it in a while. The presentation is very unique and perhaps one of its kind. Art and Animation: Well, most people quit this series after the first few seconds of episode 1. And to be honest I did the same. We see just photos changing from frame to frame with no animation whatsoever. It looks dullish at least at the starting of the first episode. But before you know it, you get to see the real appeal of the anime. We get to see smooth and dynamic animation during moments where it counts. The angle from which the frames are drawn is one of the most unique ways I've seen it. Like from time to time we will see the camera angle being in a position that captures maximum detail and background. Talking about the art, we get spectacularly drawn frames, with exquisite detail and colour. But the colours are not neon or brightly attractive; they appear rather dull. The colour pallet that is. The characters' designs are fairly well made. There isn't any 3D touch to the show. There isn't any detail to shadows or changing gradients of colours which could give the characters or the background more depth and 3D look. We don't exactly get smooth or wonderfully executed transitions. Pretty straight forward frame changes. Like a door closing, a curtain falling or just random pop up of characters. But it doesn't feel out of place given the setting and overall feel of the anime. One major thing is. Each episode looks like it's being projected on a wrinkled sheet of yellowish paper. Which remains constant throughout the series. Might bother in the starting but you will get used to it soon enough. Characters: Okay, we don't exactly see any character development for the protagonist, because the anime isn't about the protagonist going on an adventure to beat the demon king. We aren't given any information about his backstory, his relationships, how he became who he is, where did he come from or anything. Which, in my opinion, adds to the mystery factor of the show. And before you know it you will like his character with each passing episode. He appears generally as a cold man, who doesn't indulge much with humans or likes to talk a lot. But from time to time he might drop a bad joke in a pretty intense situation where u can’t help but laugh. And we also get to see this alternate self, about whom we aren't given any information either. He speaks in the traditional Japanese dialect which is spoken when traditional Japanese speakers read traditional Japanese folklore or stories. All the different characters we get in each different arc, all are well explained and it doesn't feel like we were kept in the dark about anything. As the episodes proceed, more and more things are revealed and the entire picture comes into the view. Most of the characters are stereotypical from Japanese such as Samurai, priests, monks, government officials, children, and many others. Sound: The sound is very well used in this. Given it isn't a visual feast, it's in no way outstanding or anything. But the way sounds are used, adds to the atmosphere building up the mystery and horror factor in the atmosphere. The sounds are used in a good way, minimalistic noises and musicThe op and ed weren't much of a banger in my opinion. Conclusion: So we have an amazing mystery horror anime. With a lot of food for thought, Japanese cultural insights and really slow and fairy medieval animation. I won't recommend this to anyone new to anime. Nor would I recommend this to someone who needs the anime to have awesome or even good animation no matter what. This anime is solely for people who are interested in different and non-mainstream anime out there. Quite bingeable, you can easily binge it in 2 days. The conversations, reactions and scenarios everything felt genuine. It wasn't exaggerated, like some other shows out there. So the only reason one might stick around till the end is because of sheer interest. Though I will say. Please stick around, the story is worth it. But that also depends on how much you are able to comprehend what is spoken. Great watch, do watch it sometime if possible.

Ishuzoku Reviewers: *NSFW*
Yes, the meme hentai-anime, which got ranked number 2 on MAL at one point in time. Which in my saying is one of the finest anime of winter 2020. Story and theme: The anime is set in a cliche fantasy world, where there exist, anthropomorphic animals of all species, guilds, adventurers, magic power, kingdoms and whatnot. But the one thing we have here is the existence of prostitutes belonging to various species. And our adventurers, go around to these establishments, and they rate the girls and the brothel establishment based on their experiences as creatures belonging to different species. each hosting a brothel consisting of ... their own species. And even in those species, we get to see a lot of variations, mainly in terms of their attitude, personality traits and body shapes within the same species. Now this concept isn’t completely new to anime. In a lot of isekai we get to see succubus, slaves, and prostitution but they exist in the story, just for fanservice. They aren’t really important to the story. Their existence is added for a minute to gather the interest of the reader. The story continues on, following up on the story, which has a higher purpose, sex and prostitution might be a big or small fraction of its entire story as a whole. But this is where ishuzoku reviewers differ from these anime. The whole plot of Ishuzoku reviewers is based on prostitution. You take that out, the anime has nothing left in it. The anime doesn’t focus on sex just for the sake of fanservice which is part of an overall larger plotline. No, the anime is about sex and the factors associated with it which make it better or worse for anthropomorphic animals of different species. Now, we mainly have 3 protagonists, firstly the human, Stunk. A perfect male adult human, which is the type of characters we might be able to relate to. Then we have Zel, the elf. Short structured, magic-user. Lastly, we have Crim, the fallen angel, who is apparently a hermaphrodite. So with this, we have our main cast, and all three belong to completely different species and hence have completely different preferences and needs when it comes to sex. Even the first starting debate that starts is, which is more preferable, a 500-year-old elf or a 50-year-old human prostitute. To this Zel and Stunk have very different opinions, for they are completely different species and have different needs. The Elf prefers the human, for she is a lot younger to him, an elf who live hundreds of years, and hence he finds her far sexier. As for the Human, the 500-year-old elf looks far younger than a 50-year-old human lady, hence he prefers the elf more than the human, as, for him, a human body starts getting old at 50 years of age. So for the human who finds the 50-year-old human lady old, is attracted to the young-looking 500-year-old elf. And the elf who finds a 500-year-old elf senile is attracted to a 50-year-old human female. On their journey to all these various establishments, at times they take companions of various races, ranging from bears, lizards, halflings and a lot more. So all of them have their own set of race and class abilities, their magic, resistance, stamina, toughness, etc. This leads to some having a really mind-boggling experience and some are left out unable to do anything. They visit all types of establishments one could imagine, catgirls, fairies, cyclops, cows, angels, dragons, undead, slime, roleplay, create your own girl and even gender swap. They even went to an inn where non-mammalian races of prostitutes lay eggs, which are unfertilised, which is the human equivalent of menstruation. So they really didn’t hold back on anything. Animation and Sound: Given that this was pretty much hentai, we actually have some really great animation and art style. The art does make some of the characters overly thicc, than they are supposed to be, but given it increases the overall appeal of the anime is all good. Fairly well-done animation, they had their priorities set straight, the sex scenes were very well done, the faces and boob physics were very well done. The music was very good too. The opening and ending were a banger. Due to one reason or another. The voice actresses did great work on voicing all the prostitutes, felt genuine and really added a lot to their characters and appeal. Characters: Now there wasn’t really any major character development in the anime, besides maybe the character of crim, who when we started was a sweet innocent angel, who went on to become a full-blown pervert, as he discovered his own tastes and fetishes. The characters were pretty well made, they described the entire scenario and experience based on their abilities and races. The reviews at times varied vastly, for there were times when some couldn’t enter the brother while others were having the time of their lives. Conclusion: Right so we have borderline hentai, the only thing that does not make it hentai is no showing of genitals. But they did show vaginas in the opening. With pretty much no story, but whose story is pretty much entirely based on sex. You can easily find the uncensored version, with nipples and everything. A great show to watch, the creators probably thought of everything, so something or other will probably appeal to your fantasy or who knows you might develop a new fetish. A fairly wild ride, and enjoyable for me. This might vary from person to person though. Would recommend to anyone, new weeb or veteran, really depends on the person’s taste, if you are into the hentai side of anime like we have highschool DxD, redo of healer and stuff, then this will definitely appeal to your liking, but again, even in those anime, there was a larger plot than just boobs and sex. This anime is, again, about sex. So go for it if you are horny!

ON-GAKU: * spoilers *
When you thought great songs, absolute stunning animation, well-written dialogues, subtle character development couldn't be compressed in a one-hour movie...this movie is here to prove you wrong. Taking over 7 years to make and more than 40,000 hand-drawn frames, Kenji Iwaisawa brings to us an absolute joy of a movie. Theme: We have 3 high school delinquents, Kenji, Ota and Asakura, living a carefree school life, playing games on a console, in their own hideout in school, picking up fights with people from other students, and having a single female friend who gave the trio the title of “three musketeers”, they just do whatever ... they feel like doing in the moment. And just like that one day, kenji on his way to a brawl acquires a guitar (in perhaps one of the most hilarious ways possible) and comes up with a brilliant idea, starting a band. The trio picks up instruments from the school, like it's just another day in their everyday nonchalant life, and takes them home, Beatles style. Having no knowledge about instruments they go with the classic set up of a drum and two bass guitars and create sound based on natural instincts and pure energy. The movie follows their journey starting from them picking up drums all the way to their performance in the town's small annual rock festival. Having quite a few side characters beside the main three, all of them fit excellently in the story, each having their own character backgrounds, personalities and they entwine with synergy along with our main cast without any friction. Our trio names their band “Kobujitsu” meaning ancient martial arts, which is quite spot on given that all three are muscle heads, and believe brute force is the solution. The music that they create with the two bass guitars and drums, without any practice reminds you of a primitive era, where there is just raw sound, not really any tune or refined sharpness to it. So this gives the whole identity and is symbolism to their personalities and lifestyle. On the contrary, in their school is another music club, which has a band named “Kobijitsu” meaning ancient fine arts, which is symbolising the personality of the band members. They play music which has harmony tuning and a pitch which loosens the strings clutching your body and you feel at ease, sound which is appealing to the ears, sound which provides tranquility. So throughout the series we get to see how both of these meet and actually intermix their music style and influence one another. Animation: Perhaps the most overwhelming aspect of the entire movie was its absolute hair-raising, spring-tingling and an overall phenomenal animation and art work. Initially what we are absolute school level character designs, with no focus, detail or even appeal to the character designs, eyes are just 2 lines with a dot, faces are drawn with no emphasis on design and mustaches are just a zig zag line, no lips or detail to mouth movement. The background artwork seemed like a painting done on a canvas, with light water colors. Simplistic designs, without any major detailing or 3D look to things adding to the aesthetics of the movie. But the gimmick that makes those crappy designs, aesthetic one might argue, work is the steller animation, the way those characters move, the motion of the limbs and the body in general. The dynamics of the body movement throughout the series feel astonishingly real. The anime has moments where the animation completely changes, the art style goes into another dimension and one wonders if they are still watching the anime they started. So how does this anime achieve those astronomical heights of graphic dynamics, well they did something similar to what Masaki did in ping pong. They traced frame by frame real live action scenes and performances. They copied the realistic body movements covering it with their character designs and single stroke faces. One can assume the reason they went with the simple character designs was so they can make the animation outstanding by making tracing and incorporating those traces in animation, easier. We start noticing this from the starting itself, but major giveaway comes when, the leader of Kobijitsu, Morita, neglects the fine arts side of music and goes into a fit of hard rock guitar stringing, all color from the screens vanishes and we only see set oh black, blue and red lines creating an 3d image of a person playing guitar, with hair flowing and his entire body moving as he unleashes all his energies and drops all etiquette and completely immersed himself in the moment and all the frustration inside gets converted to metallic guitar tones. This scene makes it absolutely clear about the origins of the work and how the animation came to be as it is. We get the final shock and wave of music and animation in the final 10 minutes, at the rock festival. And I can guarantee you it will leave you overwhelmed. Sound: I've talked about it already, but building up more on the Kobijitsu and kobujitsu thing, I've honestly never thought about music with such depth and analysis as this movie made me do it. Like how one expresses themselves through the medium of music, though the medium of sound production. Two different people, using the same instrument producing two very different sounds, presenting two very different emotions. Key theme of the movie was that music is subjective. People fight over whose taste in music is superior or why do bands change their music style with time, but fail to see that what tunes might please you, other people may find inadequate and lacking. The music played by Kobujitsu in the starting when they first picked up those musical instruments, remained constant till their final performance at the rock festival. This is one factor which makes this anime special. If suppose we say their first performance was awful and they realise that music takes time before you can create sounds which people like. We would have expected to see an entire training arc where they would work on improving their sound and style. But that never happened. What they played when they first picked up instruments, stayed consistent from practice to their final performance. Sending the message again that music is subjective. The music they play showcases their nature, their personalities and emotions so that they don't feel as if the music lacks in anything and they just play the same notes in a constant rhythm, which reminds of the primitive era, and caos, a world where nothing makes sense. This was personified when Morita listened to their performance. And Morita instead of getting mortified by their performance, was rather flabbergasted, and asked them to perform at the rock festival, without giving them any advice in music theory or anything. But we see how kobujitsu affects Morita, when he goes into that fit of heavy rock strimming out of nowhere, and we get to see more of Kobujitsus effect on Kobijitsu at the rock festival. So we can say that maybe Morita, being well aware of music and its peculiarities, saw the appeal in Kobujitsu’s sounds, and felt his own work was inefficient at expressing himself. And the people in Kobujitsu were able to express themselves perfectly, for they don't want to produce music loved by others, and just represent their emotions through sound. Also the fact that they aren't well versed in the world of music or music theory and pieces, they don't know the difference between what is refined music and what is raw sound. But when they hear Kobijitsu’s performance they do seem impressed. On the other hand, Morita being very knowledgeable in the subject, listening to different peoples work, thought that maybe this was the music that people wanted to hear and that's what he reciprocated. But looking at how Kobujitsu didn't give a damn about people, Morita saw that as a message or as an inspiration and hence was blown away by them and followed their footsteps in a way. Besides all this, we actually have some really beautiful music pieces in the movie. From simple guitar and drum OST to amazing acoustic songs to passionate guitar streaming and lastly an extravaganza of mix indie rock instrumental performance. Characters: We get to see a small but really fantastic set of characters in the movie. The leader of Kobujitsu, Kenji, never expresses himself in more than a few syllables. His monotonous expression less voice and perhaps the most unpredictable dialogue writing make this character instantly lovable. You can predict his dialogues to a certain point, but never what is going to come out of his mouth. Throughout the series, he just does what he wants, without being guided or influenced by anyone. Just a free living delinquent, staying true to his character. Same could be said for Ota and Asakura, who take on the main lead when their time comes, but the story mainly revolves around Kenji and his character development. Second character whose major development we see is Morita, as I have discussed earlier, how he goes from being a shy, introvert, playing soothing musical notes, to a punk rockstar playing beats on pure energy and his entire being vibing along. Another side character we get to see is Oba, leader of a delinquent gang from another school in the same area, who has been wanting to fight kenji. Kenji rejects his proposal for a one on one fight, so Oba decides to hurt him, when it'll hurt the most. And the next time we get to see Oba is on the day of the rock festival. All the characters remained true to their feelings. There was character development but not the cost of the entire persona of the character changing. They stay as they are, but change their ways of doing things, without letting go of their attitudes and virtues. Conclusion: So we have a stunning artistic masterpiece, revolving around subjectivity of music, with intricately well designed characters with perfect time frame and crispness. It's really hard for me to actually come up with something that would make the movie a bad or even anything less than an overwhelming experience for anyone whatsoever. Lots of pop culture references, such as The Beatles, John Lennon, many more. "Music doesn't change but your perspective does" this is another thing that makes this movie so unique and special. The music doesn't change as to seek appreciation from the audience. Instead, the audience starts appreciating the music as it is. Ultimately helping us understand, just how different music is for everyone, and instead of comparison, it needs to be acknowledged. The animation in the starting and trailer might not seem as appealing, but as the story progresses, things will change for the better and the buildup doesn't disappoint. If you are new to anime, it will be a 50/50 chance whether you will not like the movie or will be completely blown away by it, depending on your maturity and taste. It's a different experience, I honestly can't compare it to any other movie or show I have seen, this thing is unique in its own genre. So go for it, great movie for a group watch, family friendly, and...yeah. It will be a big mistake to miss this one out. My rating: 9.8

Tatami galaxy:
“The root of all your evil is in always relying on one of your other possibilities to get your wish.” -Higuchi Seitaro Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong the Animation are two of the absolute phenomenal anime directed by Yuasa Masaki. Which still stand as top-notch show in the industry today. _Story and theme:_ The anime is basically a visual novel, and each episode (till ep 9) showcases a different path into the story based on the protagonist’s decision at the starting of his college days, while he was choosing a circle or club for his college life. At some point in life, we all have wondered, “if only I ... could go back in time and make a different decision, chose a different path and my life would have been so different I would have been so much better off than I am right now”. This anime addresses that issue while providing insights and philosophy behind the reason and practicality of that thought. So, we see the protagonist living different lives with each different club he chose hoping to have a “rose-coloured college life” where he wishes for a “raven-haired maiden”, being popular amongst his peers, and having a successful and fun college life overall. In the starting few episodes, the story seems a bit random, but then you start to see a pattern, all events happening around the protagonist aren’t completely random, they are repeating some major aspects. In each world or each circle, our protagonist spends 2 years of his college life in misery and endeavours to obtain something which Is ultimately destroyed due to direct or indirect involvement on his best friend “Ozu”. We see a fortune teller telling the protagonist the same thing over and over again in each “timeline”. Another character is Akashi who is seemingly a kudere, but she only mellows out Infront of our protagonist, seemingly hinting the audience that Akashi is the true path. Now the events occurring in the different circles in all different timelines, which were seemingly random, were all interrelated taking place like they were supposed to take place and with each changing timeline, we get to look into the working of other clubs and how the events are occurring simultaneously and affecting each other. During the watch, there will be a lot of questions and apparent plot holes which are staggeringly answered in one of the most ingenious and impeccable conclusions I’ve ever seen in an anime series. Coming to the aspect for which this anime was called “Monogatari on crack”, its dialogues. If you are one of those people who have trouble reading subtitles and have to rewind or pause a lot, you are going to have a terrible time trying to “watch” this anime and don’t even think about trying to “understand” the story. In a single monologue inside the protagonists head, we see all hundred years of human knowledge spent on creating the laws and rules of literature all laid before in front of the audience in the rawest forms, including unparalleled use of nuisances in grammar encompassing long analogies, convoluted vocabulary, baffling use of adjectives, metaphors, simile and hyperbole. In the Monogatari series, the voice actors got to take breaks, the dialogues were long and heavy but not necessarily fast. As explaining philosophy needs to be slow. Here however there is no philosophy to be explained (at least not till the end), just the thoughts of the protagonist flashing in and out of his mind and they are just vocally communicated to the audience in a single breath monologue tone. So, the dialogues turn out to be fast and long but not complicated in their meaning. In Monogatari if you miss out something, you might not understand what is going on in the episode then and how did they solve the issue. In tatami galaxy, you have a basic idea of what is going on, even if you miss out on some words during the monologues. For a better relatability, imagine the fast-paced dialogues in Saiki Kusou, but replace all those funny gag dialogues with dialogues from the Monogatari series. That’s the best way to put it. _Characters:_ Our unnamed protagonist is somewhat like an ideal dreamer, while still being rooted in reality in the most naïve way of saying. He wants to achieve something unrealistic and makes efforts for it, only to realize they were in vain, and looks for different “possibilities” to reach his goal. A very relatable and realistic protagonist. The protagonist isn’t necessarily lazy but gives up when he strongly believes that things would have been a lot different had he made a different choice. His best friend “Ozu”, has quite a different personality, not completely contrary to the protagonist. Ozu is showcased as more malicious, evil and chaotic type. The protagonist blames him for ruining his college life and wishes he would have joined another circle, but in each timeline, Ozu meets the protagonist as his first friend, in different scenarios. The intentions behind his actions and how does the protagonist find him in every circle he joins in different timelines, all makes sense in the end. Other major characters are Akashi, whose character is brief, but the connection between her and the protagonist is always the same. At times they are in the same club, at times they aren’t, in different timelines. We have the master, Higuchi, who is supposed to be repeating college, appears as a middle-aged man, calm and philosophical. he is the one character who guides the others, who knows everything. We have Jougasaki a stereotypical muscular and handsome guy, popular with everyone and with weird fetishes, no one knows. Last major character would be Hanuki, who is a dentist and drinks a lot, but only with those who know her, due to reasons. We even get some characters who were the personification of our protagonists’ emotions, like a cowboy “johnny” who was supposed to represent the protagonist’s libido. All these characters are seen repeatedly, and we see their different sides with each episode, although I won’t say we get to see a lot of character development for most of these guys, as the story revolves around the protagonist. During the 9 episodes, we don’t see much development, we see the protagonist falling into despair again and again, due to different circumstances which were fundamentally the same. All of the character development comes about in the last 2 episodes. When all the dots are connected, and we get a complete picture and the meaning of “tatami galaxy” comes clear So, we don’t get gradual development, rather a bulk development, everything comes to the protagonist in a brief amount of time in a way which does not offend or disturb the overall harmony of the show. Really really smart. _Animation:_ Like I mentioned before, this one is directed by Masaki and madhouse studio. So, you get that signature raw, hand-drawn art style with the fluid animation of perfection of madhouse, it’s amazing. The simplistic art style, hand-drawn human figures without any special focus on features, no sparking eyes or use of shadow and highlights on figures. But the exaggeration on the background and the absolute dynamic movements with the raw element going wild, it’s a dang good experience. One thing I want to focus on is in all episodes we see the 4.5 tatami mat room of the protagonist, with shelves, books, tables, wall hangings, accessories and stuff. In the last 2 episodes, we get to see that the studio put together the 4.5 tatami mat room in real life and within it, they animated the protagonist. So, it’s a monochrome photo of the real room and we have a black and white animated character moving within it. This was a really good way to get the attention of the viewers, for it was at this moment the character development starts. They used this technique a couple of times, introducing images and videos recorded in real life and adding then to the anime. It looks different and weird but if its Misaki, its reasonably normal and it even enhances the moment. _ Sound:_ The opening and ending both were an absolute banger, especially the ending theme. Ed is like a blend of 80s and future music if that makes sense, which one would like to listen at night. Op was like country music with more of tune you would dance at. Well-made themes. Also, the animation of both was one of the best op and ed animations I've seen, to the beat and awesome. The OST was well made, we have a soft violin or a piano playing when the protagonist is giving a monologue, the music repeats so you know which mood the protagonist is in, and if whether the dialogue is heavy or not. Then we have a complete orchestra at work at times, all instruments creating a soothing melody which would love to see in a show which has mostly dialogues. The OST does its job at getting the focus on the dialogue spoken. I want to put special emphasis on the one song that most people miss out on. The circle song by master Higuchi. The lyrics of this song might not make sense when it is heard in ep 4 but when I listened to it after completing the series, I realized the very lyrics of the song were foreshadowing the entire plot and meaning behind the anime. It was a small composition, sung in the melodious and soothing voice of Fujiwara Keiji (may he rest in peace) signifying the reason behind our suffering. We Look for something ideal and perfect and leave behind everything we have on our hands right now, no matter how good or bad. An enthralling song with simple lyrics a child could understand but holding meaning only interpreted by those with a sense of intellect. _Conclusion:_ Many might not agree, but I have to say, the tatami galaxy is not difficult to understand. Monogatari series was much harder to comprehend and get a grasp of. Tatami galaxy not so much. Simple story, well-made characters without any mysteries or backstories, everything is very well explained and concluded in the end. Again, I’m saying this, Monogatari had heavy dialogues, more philosophical and more thought based. This has straight forward dialogues, with complicated vocabulary, just spoken fast. It has more dialogues spoken than Monogatari in the same amount of time. That’s it. The meaning of those dialogues varies vastly. It’s a complete canon series, like ping pong, we don’t have any unnecessary fanservice, lolis, weird love-hate relationships or any other type of cliché stuff. Just 11 episodes of amazing animation, complete well thought out story and a lot of long dialogues. Like other works by Masaki, I won’t exactly recommend this to someone who is still new to anime. You might come to absolutely hate it, or even if you didn’t, the speed of dialogues might make you change your mind. So, go for it if u want to watch something new, and something for which u have time. Because even if this is 11 episodes you can binge it like ping pong in one night. If you are checking out works by Yuasa Masaki, this is a must-watch. Just another masterpiece anime.
