[Very light spoilers ahead]
Story: 6.5/10
So we all know demons/curses are popular themes rn. Phantom Seer being one of the latest mangas of that sort, isn't very original but it does a good job at executing the theme. For such a small amount of chaps, the manga has a lot of info and large world building. Tbh I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing since all those text bubbles probably affected my enjoyment negatively. A few chapters had really captivating moments that got me thinking "Damn... that's pretty lit", for instance in chapter 3
...
when the phantom with the "yeah" tick is revealed in page 12 but has actually been saying "yeah" since page 6 and blending with our characters' conversations without the reader even realizing it. I mean, it's basically just small & common foreshadowing but it's implemented in a very cool way if you ask me.
Saaaaadly tho, aside from that, the story was simply not very captivating and entertaining to read. It barely got me wanting to read the next chapter.
Art: 9/10
It's a two-man manga so ofc the art's gonna be good, but damn. For a weekly manga the art is pretty much monthly seinen manga level. It has some amaaaaazing horror panels and also uses modern and good looking paneling techniques. The art-style itself is fairly common and plays it safe. The color pages are much appreciated too but were much less present with time as WSJ abandoned the series.
Characters: 7/10
The characters are good. Their personalities are distinct and different, there's a whole range of em. We know the two main characters' goals and ideologies but there really isn't anything special about them, all I can say is that they were pretty broad and had room for a lot of development in the future. Some characters like Tsumuji Komachi from chapter 14, can throw in some interesting train of thoughts. She didn't get much screentime sadly but I wish she was the main female protag, she's defo one of the most memorable characters imo. Overall though, it's a pretty average cast that doesn't offer anything new or different to experienced manga readers.
Enjoyment: 5/10
As I said before, the story was barely entertaining. Some parts of it were way more fun to read than others and for that reason, I sat through the less-enjoyable chapters hoping that better ones would come in the near future. Those chapters never came (for me) and in the end, the manga felt like a chore to read. Enjoyment is purely subjective tho.
TL;DR: Exorcising manga with amazing art and horror panels, plot isn't very interesting or shocking. Story has a lot of information, details to offer and everything feels like it's very well thought. Honestly, if you don't have much time I'd recommend skipping this manga. In the end, it's a story that you'll forget in a few months. Nothing memorable imo.
Overall: 6.8/10

As much as I enjoyed watching this anime, I'm pretty disappointed as to what it turned out to be.
Positives:
I'll start off by saying that the art and animation is gorgeous. The colors are so vibrant and exotic that you don't even realize the story takes place in Japan. The animation for the skate tricks was especially good and satisfying to watch. Visually, the anime is refreshing and really good. The sound is good but nothing too special, they did a good job at implementing the skateboard's sound effects apart from a few irrelevant flaws. The enjoyment was reaaally good and each episode only gets better.
...
From an European perspective, they did an amazing job at implementing modern trends such as ways of talking, acting, little scenes like the McDonalds one (which I've actually done with a friend) and more. It really allowed me to bond with the characters as if I was in their world, their school, their group of friends. Not to mention, as a skater, they said some pretty relatable stuff along with some cheesy and cringe stuff, but that's all part of the anime bundle we signed up for so it's fine.
Negatives:
As of now, I have a big problem with the plot. What's interesting and refreshing in the anime for me is the skating itself and the chill and relatable moments. But the race competition thing at the moment doesn't impress me at all, in fact it's very unrealistic. Skateboarding isn't about races at all, I'd rather simply watch some friends skate around, go on adventures and chill. The skateboarding race bs feels like a mix between Food Wars's 'Shokugeki' system and a lack of research and reflection on skate culture. In fairness to the plot, it's only just started so I might come to like the racing aspect of the show in the near future even though it has nothing to do with skateboarding. But right now, the race scenes are the ones that I enjoy the least by far. Apart from that, the characters haven't gotten my attention, they don't have distinctive or interesting personalities. I like the main duo a lot (Reki, Langa) but in reality the characters look a bit cliche, artificial, hollow and boring (I do like Reki's character a lot in the latest episodes as his imperfect human behavior is portrayed and built upon). Even the main antagonist isn't very shocking or memorable, he's a mix between Hisoka, that gourmet pedo from Tokyo Ghoul and a touch of Dio. I also haven't seen any main female characters (anime or trailer or character list) which is bothering me, because y'know... I like my anime chicks fam.
TL;DR:
Amazing, exotic and refreshing art & animation, really good enjoyment that only gets better with each episode. Skating theme is very refreshing but sadly the way they interpreted the skateboard culture is completely wrong (skateboard races), that's the worst aspect of the show imo. The characters for now aren't that interesting or memorable (we need some femaaaaaaales).
You should definitely give it a shot, the anime can be relatable, feels modern and fresh.

Yes. It's a decent manga bro. Skip to the tl;dr down below if you lazy to read this review bc I definitely would be.
Story: 7/10
The plot isn't the most original out there but the way this manga deals with it is extremely captivating. Every second of it was entertaining and left me wanting more. For now the story's just a thrill ride of craziness without any 'deep shit' (which also has it's own merits) but that could change in the future.
Art: 8/10
The art reminds me of Tatsuki Fujimoto's art style (Fire Punch, Chainsaw man). It's not Berserk or Vagabond level but it has it's own
...
charm in my opinion. Now what I really fucked with were the horror panels, those were insanely good and fitting for the story and its fucked up characters. (Honorable mention: the eyes)
Characters: 6/10
Characters are kinda ass for now. Apart from the mc, none of them are likeable and I usually like crazy villains and shit. I can't really connect with the characters and it just feels like I'm watching a hero go up levels in a game until he reaches the boss. The female lead is also ass, next level dumb bitch type beat. She does nonetheless, seem to be pulling many strings and could potentially get a cool character twist. Aside from that, some actions taken by the characters make absolutely 0 sense. The main antagonist (leader of the bullies) seems pretty interesting, she or he is by far the most fucked up character but and probably the most intriguing.
Enjoyment: 9/10
Sometimes I come across mangas that give me the urge to read the next chap and this was definitely one of them. I binged it all in one sitting and although the last few chapters were less good, it was still a fun read. The story, the art, the characters. They're all average if you look at them individually but all mixed together, they merge into sum hella cool.
Overall I'd give it a 7.5 for now.
TL;DR:
Dark, martial arts, torture, rape, psychological shit and a badass mc all into one manga. Worth a read, has some amazing panels, very fucked up characters. If you're not interested after ch1, might as well drop it.
