REDLINE is a very very unique piece of Art that I ever laid my eyes on. Pure high octane fun from start to end.
I love Cel Shaded works and absolutely adore Japanese works with them. But Redline takes the old mastery of pure exhilarating details and modern advancement in extra CG VFX and blows it out through Stratosphere. Oh this is hand drawn by the way in case you are wondering. Yep that's the magic. Mad House made an ultimate masterpiece. Hats off to all the folks who achieved this.
No spoilers because there's very little to let viewer know anything, in fact the experience
...
itself would be fantastic and I wish everyone to experience in such way.
So, I won't go deep into story because that's not what you are going to look for honestly, they make you glued to the screen you will never be the one wanting the nitty gritty of the story aspects. Now that basics are done, the top praise must go to the Sound design and OST. The movie kicks into maximum gear from the start itself leaving you in complete awe, the impact of the race it's truly outstanding. I mean the way how our star JP makes his debut of Gold Nitro boost with his TransAM and our beauty Crab Sonoshee with her Hoverjet, fantastically done that's all the debut for the ultra thrilling high tech ride, it achieves making the viewer to buckle up and the foundational impact is done at such a high level that they always keep going up and up from here on.
Well. the later part of the movie gives us a slight breathing room and adds some fantastical set pieces with beautiful art of the world of REDLINE. And the characters you see, they nailed the alien designs in a quirky way possible.Yes the character intros for the race day and the small roles played by these racers and side supporting cast is also done in a very graceful way this is our . The exposition is very little as it just serves you to be the Race Grid for the finale you are about to experience, and it's mighty rewarding. Esp the antagonistic nature of the Roboworld with a pinch of mysticism, the things they conjure up it goes in parallel to the hyperspeed racing which actually serves as the fuel to this beautiful movie. I would say that's a brilliant way the creative team expressing their art to audience. By the way, there's our little fan service too, that adds a masterstroke detail.
I cannot simply stop praising the creative team nailing the impact of high octane performance, it's a love letter to this beautiful love story, and this is the beating heart of this movie. Yes pun Intended and you will know why once you finish the movie, it will put a big smile on your face ;)
10/10 You will love it.

Genocyber is probably one of the most controversial due to it's gore and ending. The MAL rating is totally unfair since we have so many shows like this in the 80s and 90s. Japanese artists during that time had highest creativity in making fantastic works with boundless imagination. In before I mention some slight story aspects first of all you have to see through lens of Elaine only if you start thinking about the other lives you may get disappointed but people who like these old shows esp the Black Magic M66 and Armitage you will definitely enjoy this kind of show
Art style is the
...
most stunning part of Genocyber, pure cel shaded art made with passion that is timeless and they capture the human emotions so well, it makes the show a worthwhile experience. Every episode has fantastic art. The gore is insanely depicted for the first episode, which is the longest one. It maintains the coherence throughout the 5 parts.
Sound design is solid, the original soundtrack score is excellent it's the retro flair that we get with great beats that are in sync with gripping action sequences and moments, that's one of the greatest strengths this show has and maintains it very well.
Character arcs are not particularly flawless or deep. However with each episode you get to understand a character and their emotional experience with all this combined through the story and narration every episode makes it a unique experience.
Story is very complex to put in words since it's the string that carries the weight of the show. The first episode has more characters than the rest of the series esp the Doctor and Diana. The second and third follow a singular character base for us and our protagonist Elaine is not a very deep character as she is a little girl and learning through her tough life, but the character is well made I mean she sacrifices a lot for her emotional attachments with the people who she meets during the entire course of her journey, the final parts do not have much of her but rather the side characters Mel and Ryu take the front seat. Remember this show is more of a character and it's effect on this planet which has been effected by the human corruption and greed.
When you take the combined picture which melds through all of this beautifully, this show will shine a lot. Many sci-fi fans, mecha fans will appreciate this show. The gore is fantastic as well, brutal and now nowhere to be seen, this is a masterpiece of art just like so many other cel shaded works from Japan.

Violence Jack : Hell's Wind. This is the last OVA of the show, wish there were more. The fundamental aspect which I don't get is how people are rating this at sub 5.x and Dragon Ball Super at such high levels. It's really crazy to see how people are sensitized towards Anime works. This is the most influential show of all the time and most brutal masterpieces out there, a shame.
I will keep the final review a short one direct to the point. Final OVA has more humane Jack than the first two, that's how it starts but by the end of third act it
...
all comes perfectly and maintains that cohesive ultimate aspect of Violence Jack - Damsel in Distress. The usual strong powerful man helping weak and beautiful feminine women. That's the pinnacle of success of this show which maintains it thoroughly. Kentaro Muira's Berserk, Tetsuo Hara's Hokuto no Ken / Fist of North star all were inspired by this work by Go Nagai. The art style captures every single expression and brutality so perfectly just like all the OVA parts. It's a masterpiece.
Soundtrack in this third OVA is as usual top fare of this show.
Sit back and enjoy one of the finest and most brutal and daring shows of all the time. The most important aspect of why I rate it so top is the Emotional connection Violence Jack manages to achieve as an art. My utmost respect to the team who made it possible.

Violence Jack : Jigoku Gai-Gen / Evil Town, again the ultimate show is this. A true high testosterone and maximum impact violent show of all the time.
Art style is the first I will touch on, Cel shaded gets an automatic positive score. The real gem is how the brutality can be shown on screen. This is it guys, you want no pain no gain ? this is not the show like usual Shounen shows out there and latest Anime shows which have comedy and blood. This is dark and visceral. The old Anime art style of Japanese have women depicted in a perfect sense, absolutely
...
adore how they design and draw such beautiful girls with hands and give a superb expression and feelings. I suppose you already know Kawaijiri, yep this show is on par with his works perhaps a touch not that polished since no Bluray exists however you can see the quality through and through all the 3 part series.
Characterization and Story is straight forward for Violence Jack, Damsel in Distress. Which is a rare concept nowadays in Entertainment. Characters are always grey in this series, that said don't think it's too shallow. Also Harlem Bomber can be seen first or you can watch this first. I would advice to watch Evil Town first. That said this is the most violent of all extreme gore. Beware. R rated enthusiasts will love this show. Not because they want to watch people get murdered but the fact how real Power is felt on screen and how Violence Jack justifies it's case not for novelty case due to how bad antagonists behave.
Soundtrack in the series is real star since it amplifies the effect and suits the apocalyptic world plus the retro age 1980s effect on the current era. It's a rewarding experience.

Violence Jack. Lads this right here it inspired so many works of Anime and PS2 games what can I say more.
Harlem Bomber Man, can be seen as 2nd or 1st depending on your approach of release order or timeline sequences. I will keep it short and simple.
First it's Art style. This anime series is brutal and high octane show. There's no other show which can rival this level of brutality maybe a few of Kawaijiri works but as the oldest of all this stands on top of the mountain just like Jack. The blood, gore and nudity factor is extremely high. It's not just M
...
rated it's beyond that for which it has all the cult following. The cel shaded work and the insane passion put into creating women, Jack, action sequences is extremely top class work there, every single effect is very well made. All shots from close up to long shots are perfectly done.
Story and Characterization is not strong suite of this show, all 3 OVAs have that problem of maintaining the consistency of Jack. On his power showcase. But this is a show where you will be indulged into the world of Violence Jack, Go Nagai and team did a flawless work here. The show basically have fundamental formula which is now super rare to see. Damsels in Distress and Jack is the hero. However due to his insane power and violence the death follows him.
If you want a high adrenaline octane pumped show likes look no further than Violence Jack OVA series.
Well did I mention the best part ? Soundtrack is LIT. It makes the immersion so unreal and fantastic. Pure masterpiece of work.

Armitage III Dual Matrix is not a bad movie sequel but it's not a masterpiece either.
The OVAs had a solid premise and mystique to them, this one has new animation which improves certain aspects of the movie. It's a bit of a mixed bag in Naomi's design, they improved her outfit, with tighter dress fitting but the facial expressions of the OVA felt more polished to me maybe it's my cel shaded bias, don't take it as if the details are not there this one has plenty of Naomi details, for the rest of the world building aspects unfortunately it suffers from the not so
...
great 3D animations wish they went for the 2D animation only, for the Ross and the mecha animation sequences are very crisp.
Story takes a back seat due to the antagonist being one dimensional fare and the exploration of Earth is not shown that much, if we recall the OVAs we get a deep dive into Mars ecosystem. That however you wont be noticing much. Since they added some political drama into it which makes it worthwhile on understanding the universe. Also somehow they abandoned that idea of Earth being somewhat liberal centric from the OVAs, perhaps the focus of the story is minute. And somethings do not get proper outcome.
One small aspect I would point out is the OST is not a strong aspect of this movie.
The standout part is how Naomi's character arc gets some fleshed out story, that's the top class achievement by the staff here. They took her OVA character and improved on her without taking anything away, she gets to keep her hot style, caring. Ultimately making her into a woman. This makes up the whole story. Plus the best part is Armitage is a Cyberpunk show and it sticks to it's guns and elevates. For the fans of OVA they will not be disappointed even it falls a bit short of it since this is a niche genre and we got this to enjoy the best of Naomi.

Well the Neon Genesis Evangelion has some cult fan following, I could watch it only because of the 3/4 of the show being enjoyable due to characters mostly and the animation quality along with open endings options that Hideaki Anno gave.
This movie is not going to conclude in any better fashion to be honest but it's better than the alternative abrupt ending from the 25+26 episodes of original run. So I would place this before them and end the show for a definitive experience. It's up to you anyways.
As for the quality of the animation it's simply outstanding due to the cel shading art style. But
...
the combat sequences which are fast paced are made really well with high detail.
Anyways the movie is pretty much same standing at 7.5/10 for me a bit over the 7 of the show due to having it as an expansion of the show in alternative fashion or more explanatory fashion still falls short of the plot explanation. PLUS the most important factor is this one doesn't blow your mind off like those last 2 episodes and instead sticks to it's guns properly and expands on it, that's a much better way than to bombard people with random flawed character expositions overload. Still the main protag doesn't get any sort of redemption arc, nor it does for any of our favorite characters that's a huge letdown, more of a Deus Ex Machina type plot armor for protag. If they could have let go of these religious aspects the show would have much more room to breathe into real story expansion.
Still this Eva series is not a glorious representation of Sci-Fi or Mecha, it's too much of an emotional one. For which maybe some will enjoy a lot and have a bias due to it's inherent popularity. The art and soundtrack along with few characters drive this show. It's a highly flawed gem.

Since many already know about this show, I will keep it short and simple.
The show doesn't give a definitive conclusion. For that you need to watch End of Evangelion which is basically alternative re-telling of the story.
Coming back, the show Animation quality is 10/10, art style is just perfect because it's cel shaded and passionately made. Soundtracks esp OP/ED are simply superb and you will watch the OP and ED so many times for sure and the score is also pretty much well made.
Characters are what this show is all 100% about. So pay some attention to it, I like Misato most of all,
...
she is written very well, at least for me. As for the protagonist, Shinji is not that great of a Man. And also women in this show are too emotional. Manhood should go to Kaji no question. Without Misato this show is nothing to me.
So this is show is all about mecha during the first half but to near ending they made it into a complete emotional rollercoaster on acid too dynamic. Be warned it will be a lot to digest. The ending is not that fantastic but I would like to mention since we have two ending options one being the TV show and the second being End of Evangelion which I guess is ok.
It's probably a cult classic, not a great show by any means if you are looking for something like Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor movies. But you will find entertainment value for sure.
7/10 is my rating for this show to keep me glued to it wondering about the mysticism and the end is pretty much too overwhelming. Since there's no plot basically here and more of an art showcase. Even if I factor in EoE.
Oh also the negative aspect is it takes a bit lot from the religious aspects which I think is a serious flaw in this show which deviates it's explanation and more intricate story foundation than sticking up to abrahamic religious aspects.
Also if you ask me what is the ending approach, I would give my preference, after watching TV show full 26 episodes and then End of Evangelion, it's pretty much EP 24 + End of Evangelion then EP 25, 26 esp the ending part of EP 26. Or you can ignore all of that and stick with EoE.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079.
As a fan of cel shaded works with intricate love and passion works, I waited a long time to watch it and I couldn't be happier. This is a masterpiece of an art that is timeless.
Gundam Gunpla and all of its fan base should be thankful for this fine art, the mecha genre took it flight off from here, this was the genesis point, journeying back to the 70s era of Anime from Japan surely is rewarded well.
The plot and it's core revolves around Military drama. It doesn't flat our explain everything that is where it shines bright, each and every
...
single episode is of high value in entertainment. The story is expository but do not think due to the age of the show the action won't be impressive, it's not at all the case at all, the action is very thoroughly done for it's age and still stand out pretty well but the foundation is every single character you see in the show plays a role that is the biggest core strength, they are very well fleshed out with deep emotional connections.
It revolves primarily around space colonies and a small crew in this big world just like us, the intricate balance of human emotion with the military tragedies wrap this show into a classic which we can relate it to ourselves. There are a few episodes which stand out very well on this character depth, Time be Still. A Spy on Board speak for themselves, there are more but it would require to put a bit of reveal which I would not suggest just go with an open mind and you will enjoy to fullest. As a bonus significant character on either of Zeon and Federation side gets their play and point of shine, that is a true achievement of staff hats off.
Art style is impeccable for it's age, watch it with all it's glorious grain preserved, the animations are not perfect always like in a few instances you might see backdrops being static on the aspect of the immersion you get a warm OP ED tracks rounded well by background score which switches with the scene dynamically and the feelings it portrays melded with the scene, it is simply stunning.
Oh the finale, you won't be expecting any of it, it comes so heavy yet powerful sequences, it's just a beautiful heart gripping narrative experience, perfect closure.
It is a must for every fan who values the old works of true art, hand drawn high quality work that will send ripples and of course mecha fans !!

Well, to keep it very short. The story is bare minimum you don't get much of an exposition, nor high stakes ultra violence for which Kawaijiri is known for. But don't fret, the art style is what you are after. And this delivers plenty.
Characters are not much explored, however to not spoil much, Sayaka is a beautiful young girl with a heart just like her, Kyoya is of course the hero of the story, he has a bit of personality of being into women but unfortunately the show is too clinical so not much explored. Likes of Wicked City. Rest of the characters are mysterious
...
as it gets, just like his other works like Ninja Scroll, I'd not advise to learn about everything and then watch, just go blind.
As for Sound tracks, the pure retro style hits perfectly during the moments when it shows up.
Overall one of his weakest works. But still way better than any of the digital art, it's pure cel shaded masterpiece which you don't get nowadays. So just simply grab a cool drink, relax and let it do it's job.
