Loveless is yet another early 2000's "BL". I say BL in quotes because calling this show a BL is like calling Yarichin B***h Club the pinnacle of BL anime
(fun fact: neither of those statements are true). And the sad thing is, it is possible for a show following a similar formula to find some success (as proven
with Descendants of Darkness), which just makes this mess of a show all that more depressing.
Visuals: The artstyle of this show is one of the few things about this show that I actually liked. While it is just more of the same early 2000's anime
artstyle (which I already
...
like), there was also a certain dreamy and ethereal vibe to the visuals of this show, which I particularly love.
Characters: The characters in Loveless, much like the story, alternate between being barely tolerable at times and just plain bad for the most part. I will
be talking about the main characters in detail during the next section of the review, so this part is to mainly discuss the side characters. The majority of
the side characters in Loveless are, to be frank, just straight up annoying and unrealistic to an unpleasant degree. And to be honest, I'm still rather
surprised myself that I think this, since I usually tend to have a rather high tolerance for what people call "annoying" characters. But in all honesty, for
the most part I really did find all of the side characters to be truly unbearable. And to to top it all of, of course the one side character I actually did
like, Kio, got the least amount of screen time (*sob*)! I suppose I could also use this portion of the review to discuss the antagonists (yes, I said anta-
-gonists, as in multiple of them), but my feeling about them are for the majority the same as they were for the side characters.
The Ship: And now for the part of the review I was most looking forward to! I only have three words to say: What. The. Heck. BL anime is no stranger to
questionable ships, but not only is this REALLY pushing it, but I don't even know if you could call it a ship. Let's start by first talking about the age
gap. A common trope in BL anime that although I don't really care for, tend not to mind for the most part. But here... Boy do I mind!! I am stunned that this
anime thought it would be okay to ship a BARELY 13-YEAR OLD middle schooler and a COLLEGE STUDENT?? And of course one of the first things that said college
student did upon meeting the middle schooler was to to force a kiss on him. I'd say more, but, y'know, spoilers. The second thing I want to bring up is the
lack of actual love in this so-called "BL" anime. It is revealed multiple times that Soubi's (the college student) isn't even a result of an emotion he
himself feels (once again refraining myself because of spoilers) and Ritsuka (the middle schooler) just goes along with his advances because he's just
flustered an/or that desperate for someone to love him. Another thing worth mentioning here is that 2 out of the 3 main female side characters are in love
with Ritsuka for apparently no reason (one of whom is once again worryingly older than him).
Story: By far the worst part of the show. Half of this show's description on MAL can just be disregarded because what could have been an interesting
concept to explore is just turned into an excuse to give certain characters a pair of cat ears and a tail. Not to mention that the majority of what or why
anything happens is never really explained properly at any point throughout the whole show.
OST: The one other redeeming quality of this show. While I don't particularly care much for the opening and ending, I found a lot of the background pieces
(especially the piano ones) to be rather enjoyable.
Overall Thoughts: Despite all of the bad things I've said about this show, the main reason I'd warn people against watching tis show is just because it's
flat out boring. Inbetween the semi-explained bits of nonsense that Loveless calls a story there are long streches where pretty much nothing happens, and
your time would be better spent watching any other BL anime.
Sincerely, Moshimochi284
Other BL you should actually watch:
- Descendant of Darkness: Another early 2000's not quite BL with fantasy elements that actually kinda pulls it off
- Gravitation: A proper early 2000'sBL that is one of my top BLs overall

The problem with most BL anime is that they are just not that good. They tend to have excessive amounts of fanservice, poor character writing, and are usually of a rather subpar quality. However, every now and then there comes a show that truly makes an impact on the community and redefines the genre. Unfortunately, this is not that show. This show is still pretty good though, and I genuinely think it is worth a watch.
Visuals: I'm not going to lie, if you don't like the aesthetic of most early-2000s anime, you will hate the look of Gravitation. Although, for me personally, some of my
...
favorite anime are from the early-2000s, so I really enjoyed the look of this show.
Characters: I really liked the characters in Gravitation. Like a lot. One of the reasons I enjoyed this show so much, in fact, was probably because of the characters. For starters, the main character, Shuichi, was very fun to watch grow and develop over the course of the show. And while I do feel like the true resolution of his characters of his character arc can be found in the OVA, Lyrics of Love, the show does by all means do him justice. And while some people may find him annoying towards the start of the show, he really does grow on you as the anime progresses, and I truly feal that he is the heart of gravitation. Moving on to Shuichi's best friend, we have Hiro, who often played straight man to all of his Shuichi's crazy antics. Now he could have simply remained as such for the duration of the show but we actually also get to see a more serious side of him as the anime goes on, and he actually ends up becoming one of my favorite characters. The final character i want to talk about in this part of the review is... Yuki. Yuki is Shuichi's love interest. When i first met Yuki in the anime I hated him. And to be honest, for a large portion of the show Yuki is a very dislikable character. And if the show never bothered to delve into his backstory or why he is the way he is, he probably would have remained dislikable for the whole anime. Fortunately, for us viewers though, the show does a wonderful job of explaining his origins and past, and watching his relationship with Shuichi bud and grow throughout the course of this anime was easily one of the pest parts of this show.
Sound: I can't not talk about the OST in a show about music. First of all, I just need to say that this anime has one of my favorite openings of all time. It has a very nostalgic feeling, and almost reminds me of the openings from GTO. The ED is worth a listen as well, not to mention all the songs played by Bad Luck and Nittle Grasper throughout the course of the show. And this is yet another reason why I like this show so much. This anime could have easily chosen to focus on the BL portion of its story, and have just included one or two good songs, but the fact that it provides an equal amount of care and attention to both the BL and music portions is proof that it goes above and beyond in its execution.
Overall Thoughts: Gravitation is an anime that I would recommend to not only any BL anime fan, but just any romance anime fan in general, and I guarantee you will not regret putting any time into this honestly really well-made rom-com anime.
Sincerely, Moshimochi284

I've seen a lot of sports anime, and they are probably one of my
favorite types of anime. One thing I always look for in my sports
shows is just the right mix of realism and fantasy. You see, while
I want the characters to borderline superhuman, I still want everything
to be dialed back just enough, to the point where it still feels like I'm
just watching a game of whatever sport the anime is about. Based on my
rating, you can probably tell that Blue Lock pretty much nails that
balance. A lot of anime don't hold up well when you go back to them,
but I personally still find Blue
...
Lock as exciting and jaw-dropping as
when I first discovered it.
Visuals: The visuals for Blue Lock are amazing, with one caveat that
I will get to shortly. The art for this show truely captures the
vibrant and frenetic feel of the soccer games played, and also has a
bit of edge that gives the overall look just a little more pop.
So many other sports annime tend to half-a** the art, and it just
fills me with joy to see Blue Lock go the extra mile. However, as
I said before, there is one caveat. For a lot of the shots of the
field with multiple players moving about, 3D CGI models are used,
and while it's not that noticeable, it can be off-putting for some
people. Normally I would get upset at that kinf of thing, but since
this was probably just used as a cost-cutting measure after all the
money that was put into animating the rest of the anime, I'll let
it slide.
Characters: Much like the art, so many sports anime don't develop their
character properly... But Blue Lock once again breaks the norm! The
show takes time to develop most of its core cast, and its protagonist
is easily one of its most interesting characters. I'm sick and tired of
bland and generic protagonists, and not just in sports anime, but just
in anime as a whole. It's truly a pleasure to watch Isagi (the MC) grow
and change throughout the course of Blue Lock.
Sound: I don't usually even mention the OST in an anime review unless
there is something worth talking about, so we are already starting off
on a positive note. I would consider both openings and ending good enough
to warrant listening to out side of the show, and the background music
just brings the viewing experience to a whole new level. This OST is actually
one of the few soundtracks from a sports anime that has more than one good,
standout song.
Overall Thoughts: This is one of not only my favorite sports anime, but one of
my favorite anime of all time, and I highly recommend this show to anyone
who has even the slightest interest in anime. Go have fun, and as
the Blue Lock players say, stay egotistical.

I have go to say, my mind was blown when I found out that MAPPA,
the same studio that did Jujutsu Kaisen and Yuri!!! on Ice, also
worked on anime like this and Days. Regardless, I consider this
to be a very interesting show that both embraces and subverts
tropes commonly found in sports anime.
Visuals: It's MAPPA, so the visuals are, as expected, pretty
great. Although not quite at the same level as some of this
studio's more popular works, Re-Main still boasts visuals far
above the average seasonal anime. However, I do have one gripe.
...
I feel like the actual sport this show is about, water polo,
could've been presented better, especially given who is
animating it.
Characters: The main character is easily one of the best parts
of the show. I was expecting this anime to take the
stereotypical approach with how the MC regained his memories
after getting amnesia, but Re-Main's take on the whole thing
was really quite refreshing. The side characters, however...
aren't nearly as well done. Most of them are pretty
one-dimensional, and while that usually wouldn't be that big of
a deal in other shows like this, the problem is glaringly
apparent in this anime. It almost seems like each side
character was assigned a single trait that was then made the
focal point of their entire personality.
Sound: The OST for this anime is surprisingly good, but
nothing too crazy. I do have to mention the opening though,
which I consider good enough to bother listening to outside of
the show.
Overall Thoughts: I kind of feel like this show is a notch below similar sports anime of the same caliber, which is why while this show would normally get a 6 or 7 from me, it just lacks that one final push that brings it all together, which is the why I am giving it the

Videogame-to-anime adaptations are always kind of iffy. They can range from a fun and action-packed ride (like Akiba's Trip: The Animation) to a forgettable piece of mediocrity (like Stand My Heroes: Piece of Truth). And horror anime, well, they're even more iffy. So when you set out to make a horror anime based on a videogame, the odds are already stacked against you. Those of you reading those of you reading this review have probably also noticed the rather small episode count this show has, even though the game it is supposedly adapting takes hours upon hours to complete, and has multiple well-crafted endings. All
...
of the aforementioned details led to an anime that, well, let's just say, dropped the ball in just about every way. This show was really hard for me to get through, and now I think its time to go over exactly why.
Visuals: The visuals for CPTS are. . . alright, I suppose. The character designs are very generic, but since most of the show takes place in almost total darkness, it probably doesn't matter much anyway. Speaking of visuals, I should probably address the massive amounts of gore and violence in this show. I'm not one of those people who really like or dislike gore, but I still feel like it could have been used more effectively, which leads right into the next category.
Horror: Horror tends to be subjective, so keep that in mind for the duration of this section. In my opinion, Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is not even a remotely scary anime. It falls into the same trap that a majority of the SAW movies fall into, which is using excessive amounts of blood, guts, and bodily violence to freak out the viewer. And that, in my eyes is scraping the bottom of the horror barrel. I really don't think any lower form of horror exists, and this show's frequent use of such horror is one of the main reasons I dislike this anime so much.
Characters: As I mentioned before, some corners will inevitably be cut when adapting a multihour game into a 4 episode anime. One major corner, in this case, ended up being virtually all character development. The characters are at best, underdeveloped, and at worst, terribly written. The characters are in fact probably one of the worst aspects of this show.
Overall Thoughts: Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is not only a disappointment to videogame-to-anime adaptations and horror anime everywhere, but also a disappointment tot the horror genre as a whole.

*This review is for Parts 1 & 2
Kengan Ashura is a very interesting show. Often overshadowed by its fellow Netflix ONA, Baki, it is not given nearly the amount of recognition it deserves. I've also always felt like a lot of people are on the fence about watching this show, so to those of you wondering whether or not to watch it, I come with a review to sate your curiosity!!
Visuals:
One big turn off for a lot of people is the CGI used in this show, but if I'm being honest... It was actually kind of good??? Now, don't get me wrong, I will always
...
prefer hand-drawn animation to CGI when it comes to animation, but the CGI used in this show, in my opinion, is leagues better than the absolute crap that is used in shows like Berserk (2016). Plus, a lot of the times the CGI actually made the fight scenes look better. It also helped that I really liked the art style of the show as well, because while it was nothing too amazing, it was still pretty nice to look at.
Story:
The story, while nothing too unique or new, was still pretty compelling to me, and I actually felt motivated enough after finishing the anime to go read the manga. It's your typical setup for a tournament arc, except with a slight twist. I don't really have much else to say story-wise concerning this show.
Music:
The one metric that everyone seems to judge anime OSTs by is if they have at least one song good enough for you to choose to listen to outside of the show, and unfortunately, Kengan Ashura's OST does not. The opening is alright at best, and mediocre at worst, and I didn't even bother listening to the ending. But the OST isn't really that bad, even if I may be making it sound that way, it's just mediocre.
Characters:
The characters are all likeable enough, but I wouldn't expect a ton of character development for the side characters, because the anime does cut a few corners when it comes to adapting the manga. One of the high points of the show, however, is the characters interacting with each other. The way all the characters bounce off of each other can lead to both some hilarious and some epic moments.
Final Thoughts: While this show does not have the same mass appeal of Baki, I still enjoyed it quite a bit, and I highly recommend you go check it out. While not a great anime, it was certainly a decent one I enjoyed mightily, and you may too. And to anyone who didn't like the show, I recommend reading the manga, because many consider it to be one of the best martial arts manga out there.
Final Score: 6 (Bordering On 7)
