To preface I'm an anime watcher only. Watching Tokyo Ghoul:re felt like watching something someone adapted from a sparknotes summary of a story. While the first season of re at least tried to introduce you to new characters and tried to help you understand characters' motivations it's like the second season completely gave up. At the core the story is interesting enough, but when you look deeper all you're left with is a feeling of confusion. Who are these new characters? Why are villains from Tokyo Ghoul suddenly good guys and why have good guys now bad guys? If you want people to be able ... to follow along at minimum viewers should be able to understand characters' motivations for switching sides. Of course reading the source material will help you understand an anime better, but if you make an anime that relies on you having read the manga to be able to even follow along then you've just made a clusterfuck.

The best way I can sum up Devilman: Crybaby is that it's what a bad acid trip turned into an anime would look like. It's exciting, horrifying and gratuitous. The art style is really unique and takes a little getting useful but in its own way is quite beautiful. The sound has a very 1980s-Vangelis circa Blade Runner sort of sound which is really cool. Story wise it's definitely intriguing action plot, but the nudity and gore is a bit over the top. Think SuperJail! mixed with season one of Game of Thrones. It's definitely worth the watch, but probably not for the weak of ... heart.

The story of No. 6 is interesting. In the first episode you get introduced to No.6 which claims to be a utopia but as soon as you're introduced to Nezumi it is clear that that is not true. The social structure of No.6 is intriguing and the mystery of the city is enough to hook your interest.That being said what keeps you watching is the characters. The side characters Karan, Safu, Inukashi and Rikiga all have enough meat to them to make up a great supporting cast but the leads Nezumi and Shion are both what really keep you coming back. You first see them ... as they meet as kids and it's clear that they instantly (romantically) connect and as their relationship grows throughout the show they develop realistically and rub off on each other. The romance between Nezumi and Shion is cute and subtle which works well as to serve as a nice subplot to the mystery of No.6. Also it's refreshing and surprising to see an anime with a gay relationship that's not in anyway over the top or fan-service-y just super sweet! That being said No.6 does have some some flaws largely with the pacing of its story. The story moves a little slow to allow the relationship between Nezumi and Shion to develop more which I guess is both a flaw and a plus but since the No.6 is only 11 episodes the last two episodes are action packed but wrap up a little too quick. There are also times where Nezumi's reluctance to share his past with Shion can be somewhat irritating but mostly because it serves as a way to slow the story progression. But all and all its a solid anime that could have benefited from a reworked pace. Granted if you absolutely hate romance it might not be fore you, but it isn't a romance anime so there still should be enough meat there for you to give it a watch!

Kakegurui is a really bizarre anime. It kind of gives off a Kill La Kill vibe in that the school is run with an iron fist by the student council and the main character has to battle, or in this case gamble, student council members to get to the president. It also tries to be over the top like Kill La Kill but unfortunately Kakegurui lacks the fun characters or true zaniness that made Kill La Kill so great. All the characters (minus Suzui) fit on a scale of horribleness and insanity. The villains are truly detestable and that makes their downfall in gambling matches ... in many ways cathartic. However, villains personalities also change without much, or in some cases really any, character development when they join Kakegurui's posse. All and all Kakegurui is really bizarre and somewhat cathartic, but lacks a good enough story to backup its weirdness. That being said I still plan on watching the second season since I believe that the first season might be serving mostly as exposition to allow for better character development in the next season.
