I didn't read as much manga as I hoped, but at least I read read Instant Japanese which has demystified Japanese since 1993. It doesn't teach kanji, but overall! It's a very good book.
I found out that Japanese sub files of movies are chock full of kanji. With the help of Bing Translate, you may be able to know the max number of Chinese characters needed to master Japanese which is 1,945.
3,000 Chinese characters are needed to master Mandarin and Cantonese. Japan used way more of those characters than that around the Yamato period which was ~60,000. The amount they imported from China.
Yes, kanji was that complicated in Japan's early days.
The other day, someone mentioned a game called Hiragana Battle and I'd love to play it after I memorize enough kanji. All my notes that I took since reading Instant Japanese will be a lot of help to me for playing that game and for reading RAW copies of Silent Möbius (requires good knowledge of kanji though).
As you can see, V-Tamers is alternate universe stuff. The only familiar face that I see in this manga is Tai or that monkey imitating Elvis while being the same jester villain. Too bad Toei will never adapt said Digimon manga.
As for Sorcerer Hunters, I love the manga and characters that never appeared in that Xebec adaptation. Carrot's mom Apricot was a hotheaded tomboy and his dad Onion was kind of a goofball, but still a badass knight nonetheless.
Too bad the writer didn't explain how Big Mama went from being a somewhat grumpy, tomboyish queen to a gentle woman that gives hitman jobs to her Sorcerer Hunters (can't be high-strung all the time). Her once priestly boyfriend Sacher wasn't the exact same dark sorcerer like his Xebec anime counterpart.
I like a lot of anime, even though most of them are incomplete adaptations.
On the bright side, I'm happy to have various original works in my favorites. My AniList favorites list has all the details, including some Gonzo anime like Kaleido Star and Solty Rei. I'll have to add Gatekeepers there some time because I remember enjoying the dubbed episodes. Ramenman is already featured there also (deeper backstory than other Kinnikuman characters).
Some of my other favorite games include Wild Arms 1, Virtua Fighter, Arc The Lad and Megaman Battle Network.
All of which have anime adaptations, but I also love more obscure games like Namco's Breakdown (would be nice if Microsoft and Namdai would consider putting it on Gamepass; I didn't play on Xbox just for Halo), Steel Reign, Armored Core, Tail Concerto or Omega Boost.
By the way, I heard that Matsuda got kicked out Square Enix which is good for the future of Kingdom Hearts. Hopefully, Dragon Quest 12 will at least be as exciting as Korean mmorpgs. DQ12 also needs to bring the job system back that DQ3 used to have.
As for manga, I've been reading Digimon V-Tamers after Sorcerer Hunters (some woman with an Asian husband kind of recommended it to me a few years ago; also told me that she was a sci-fi nerd and was fluent in Japanese).
By the way, some of your favorite people makes me think that you played Kingdom Hearts.
Anyway! I assume that you already read a similar article about Harmony Gold and Big West working together to bring Macross movies worldwide.
I'm sorry to hear that job had you in such a rut.. are you in a different one now, I hope? If not, Im glad you were able to pull out of the depression to try to enjoy old hobbies again! I tried to edit a MEP part here or there, but I am pretty much on permanent hiatus xD only doing bday ones and stuff. I hope that spark continues and you are able to get back to work on that novel! Depression is a bitch.
That's so funny you went with English!! I almost did English, but I didn't want to take a year of college level foreign language xD it intimidated me. I wanted to be a publisher... can thank the anime sekaiichi hatsukoi for that one.. and show called One tree hill xD Ended up settling for IT though because I was already pretty good with technology and I thought it meant not having to interact with many others LOL
Anime-wise, I got a long way to go with Ryo-Ohki or the Tenchi OVA universe.
As for manga, I got a great deal of Kurogane no Linebarrel left to read.
What sprung your break of watching anime? Anything in particular or just life? And whats your bachelors in? Mine's IT.
Happy Birthday :)
