An absolutely fantastic meditation on what it means to love; something or someone.
This series manages to take the essence of love and display it on top of the sport of skating. It goes over all the ways love can corrupt someone's sense of self, and also how it can corrupt the very thing someone fell in love with in the first place.
The series follows Reki, as he distills his love of skateboarding on his new friend Ranka. Over the course of the show, they encounter various people who love skating for the various facets it represents. This love for skating can really apply to
...
love for any sport or hobby.
You have Shadow, who loves the power he gains through skating. Miya, who loves the finesse and the process of skating. Kaoru who loves the technical aspects of skating. Joe, who loves the stupidity aspect of skating (illustrated in a scene where he calls all skaters idiots, but passionate idiots).
Finally, you have Adam, who most clearly represents the theme of love throughout the show. Without going into spoilers, he is someone who has a twisted view of love and a twisted view of what it means to love something. The later half of the series explores what it means to have a twisted view of love towards something and how and why that plays out.
The Art and Sound of the series are fantastic. There were a few moments where it sounded as if the voice actor was giving their lines over Skype, but overall the performances were fantastic and the soundtrack was stellar.
This series is one that I encourage everyone to watch with an open mind. Please watch this with the broad concept of LOVE in mind. You will not be disappointment. This series does a fantastic job of exploring the question; what does it mean to love someone or something?
