Story (8): This storyline seems pretty typical at first; a chance encounter with a hot guy, and then finding out he attends the same school? I would think this manga would be pretty easy to figure out (I mean, it's only 4 chapters), but somehow it was far more complex than I had imagined.

Art (9): The art was magnificent! It was very eye catching and a custom style from the artist. I really liked the way the characters' faces were more realistic than other drawing styles.

Character (10): And here was where I was blown out of the water. I never would have imagined that I ... would get so caught up in such a short piece of manga, and the reason why is because of the characters! The author astonished me with the depth they developed on each character, meanwhile managing to only do it in a few panels. After reading the entire thing I felt very pleased with the way the manga had gone (which is odd, considering 75% of the time I become extremely irritated at characters in mangas because they do things that are out of character). It also was refreshing to know that I couldn't just figure things out with the drop of a hat.

Enjoyment (9): I think the only thing that could have made this story better would be to add some sort of epilogue. :) That's just me though.

Overall (9): Loved it, loved it, and, oh yeah, loved it.

Story (5): Not much to say except that it's completely unimaginative and predictable to the very end. I could call every single cliche "twist" that occurred. I don't usually expect too much from short stories such as this one, but I at least expected some sort of plot, and frankly, that didn't happen.

Art (6): This shoujo art style is utterly overused, I must say. As soon as I saw the first page I felt like I had read this about twenty times already. Sure, it looked alright, but there were a lot of angles and expressions throughout the manga that were recycled.

Character (3): I didn't ... see a lick of character development whatsoever, not to mention that even with their flimsy bios they still managed to act out of character! Nothing irritates me more than a guy and a girl falling in love within the first seven panels of a manga, and that's exactly what this manga did.

Enjoyment (5): Well, I wasted forty minutes of my life reading this story, but I won't ask for that time back. I felt that this story had way too much emotion and drama for such a short story. I also couldn't help but scoff every time I heard someone say "I love you" while reading. Give me a break.

Overall (5): All I can say is, this series allowed me to procrastinate on school work for a short time, and that's about all it did for me. I recommend reading this if you are desperate for something stupid and girly, or if you just wish to waste some time when you could be doing something else more productive.

Story (8): I really liked the plot for this story, although I was rather skeptical at first. It seems like a very familiar scene as Miharu (our young and innocent protagonist) is left with an enormous debt by her dirt-bag father and has no way to pay it back. From there, however, things were surprisingly refreshing. Miharu meets Rintaro, who appears to be a rather spineless and absent-minded young man, and he saves her from the debt. The rest of the story is filled with the two of them solving mysteries surrounding jewels, and often results in Miharu learning more about herself. Oh, I almost ... forgot! I particularly enjoyed the gruesome depictions of spirits and such that were put in. It's not every day that you get to read shoujo with horror in it!

Art (9): I actually really like older looking drawing styles and A Wise Man Sleeps is no exception. Takeuchi did a beautiful job of drawing the main characters and really giving them life. Miharu's expressions widely varied and were fairly easy to differentiate (unlike some mangas where the character's face never changes from three defaults >.

(7)Story: I felt the set-up was cliche with the premise of a "mystery kiss" and all of that. Despite this, I actually really liked the idea. That is, until I came to understand some of the characters' motives and (let me tell you) I was not impressed.

(9)Art: The art had to be the most impressive part of the whole manga. I (like many other girls) appreciate a good bishie and there were plenty of them in this manga. The art was also very consistent and flowed well, although I felt like some of the angles were a bit repetitive.

(6)Character: And here is the fatal wound ... to this manga. Given more time this would have been amazing, I'm sure, but because it was all stuffed into two volumes a lot of depth of character was lost. The character development also takes away from the "mystery", leading you to assume there is only one person it could possibly be. I think they would have been much better off extending this manga in order to fully develop all of the supporting characters.

(7)Enjoyment: This manga has it's good points, but it also has some bumps that are a bit hard to ignore. However, if you're just looking for something to pass the time, have at it! You might find that you enjoyed it more than I.
