Darling in the Franxx is a Trigger studio anime that everyone seems to love before even watching it. Many will tell you, or perhaps you are one of them, that this show is thematically deep and deliberate with its "insanity." I will personally tell you that I dropped this anime in the second episode, probably would have given it a 5 because it was quite average, but my friend kept saying that it was as good as Fate/Zero so I HAD to watch it. I was thoroughly disappointed. You should avoid this anime, if you are not convinced, read below:
Story: (2/10)
It's just a mess. The
...
story is about these teenagers in a dystopian dead society, a fairly common take, and they need to fight these dinosaur robots. Interesting, kind of. The series, however, does not know subtly- hey why is the authority telling us to pilot with a partner? why do we do shit we don't want to do? Frankly I am insulted. Furthermore, a dystopian series like this really depends on its rich characters to serve as vehicles for its advacement - read the character section to find out ;). Everything seems force and contrived and the dialogue really questions my analysis. The bulk of my critque, I should have you know, for the story is in the characters section.
Art: (6/10)
Alone, I would give the art a 7 or 8 because its just pretty. The thing is, IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY SYNERGY WITH THE SHOW ITSELF. Let me give you an example: Nagi no Asukara's art style is crystal clean and a clear saturation with a light marine blue. Not only does this saturation synergize well with the ocean theme of the story and setting (its a village by the sea, and another actually in the sea) but the coloring choice is serene and somewhat melancholic, a perfect component for a romance-drama series. The character designs are also quite stale, and seeing them in more animated animation does not make that staleness disappear.
Sound: (5/10)
I don't really hear any spectacular OST that stand out. Fear not this is the usual problem. So I would give it a 6/10. The opening theme and ending theme brought it down for me. Again, read the character section below. The Opening and Ending are so dramatic and low-toned that it sets up the story to be deep and thematic, and Darling in the Franxx is not. Its really a show catering to the lower derivative and evidentally good at faking itself.
Character: (2/10)
So, my thoughts for every character is really articulated in this reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/80ddqp/is_darling_in_the_franxx_actually_good_or_is_it/. Highly recommend to check it out. All of them are just BLAND. Even 02, who is the closest to a personality, is seen way too much in anime. The more you learn about 02, the best character, the less you like her. You should also know that SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER (no one dies). HAHAHA, you gotta be kidding me, so these tropes are significant? The biggest argument I heard against mine is that "but DUDE, these are teenagers raised in a sterile environment, they are supposed to be bland and generic!" I say that's fucking retarded. That would not make them generic, it would make them either broken or at least have personality. REAL personality. Look at Gurren Lagann, I don't know a single name of all the Team Gurren group in episodes 5-13, but I remember their personalities and designs. In Darling in the Franxx, I could really care less.
Enjoyment: (1/10)
This show really questions my intelligence. Its melodrama is too overexaggerated and its themes are absent if not simple (well it makes itself seem deep).

Land of the lustrous is unique and you should watch it because it is unique.
Story: Its not particularly bland but not very dull. It pretty much reminds me of a more vibrantly colored and less ambitious version of Shinsekai Yori (which is an absolute masterpiece). The dynamic of the characters are interesting and the story is just likeable, or I guess it somehow made a critic who cares so much about a story pay less attention to it? Its not average so it must be above a 5 but it's not good enough for me to call it an 8 so I will settle for
...
just a GOOD (7/10)
Art: CG animation is not only employed well, but it ENHANCES the art style and ambiance. Every sheen and every RWBY-esque movement patterns matches well with the series. Not a lot to say here but to say its great. At first I thought it was bad, and then I actually watched the show and realized its pretty good. Although it sometimes slips up, its an overall GREAT (8/10)
Sound: Does not really have any standout OSTs, but they do their job. The ending fits, does its job, and the opening theme is good. I don't know what to say but I guess ACTUALLY FITTING is rarer than one may think so its above the average 5. None of it really adds so I reluctantly give a (6/10).
Character: Every character is likeable, even that monk. Their voice actors all nailed their parts, and the voices of some characters that show up later (not saying their names because of spoilers) have incredible voices in particular. I remember each and every gem person and although they have the same figure, they are suprisingly distinct. I love how each of their designs are so similar (literally the same body shape) but their faces and personalities make them SO DIFFERENT and UNIQUE. (9/10).
Enjoyment: I liked the show enough to not study for my test for it. The only reason why its not a higher score is because the ending is somewhat anticlimatic, in a good way though. (8/10)
Overall: If you miss ACTUAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and ACTUALLY SINCERE AND NOT SEXUAL DESIGNS and miss ACTUAL PLOT, then you should watch Houseki no Kuni.
P.S. This series is by far the least appreciated anime of 2017. In my opnion, it beats Made in Abyss and triumphs over all that other shit. You are doing yourself a service watching this show.

Yuzu, which is the name of main protagonist, means a type of citrus fruit in Asia (for all of you wondering what the title means.
Story (5/10): You probably should know that Citrus follows a girl to girl relationship. If that bothers you, fine you can skip and miss out on a romance that many current animes have forgotten. Yuzu, the gal-looking one, gets enrolled in an all-girl high school. Breaking the rules on the first day, she meets the student council president, Mei, who not only turns out to be the school chair's granddaughter and her newly adoptive younger sister. From here, Citrus presents
...
watchers with two main developments: Yuzu's shift from delinquent to an older sister and Mei's dealing with family problems. To avoid spoilers, let me just say that while there is touching, it is not forced and is much more rooted in innocence and stress. Learning about these characters as the story progresses is not entirely mind-blowing, especially in a high school setting, but it does it and does it well enough. Good. But its not. The last few episodes threw this out and were QUITE disappointing. I am not going to spoil anything but be prepared (5/10).
Art (8/10): I am not really sure how to explain this catergory. I guess the character designs look good and noticable. What actually makes them great is that they are noticable and not flashy (no yellow hair and orange jump suit, just black/brown ish hair) The background is pretty to look at. Some of the art drops in quality for moments (particularly the eyes) and it takes away from the experience a little, but overall great.
Sound (7/10): I love both the opening and ending themes. 10/10. The series does not really utilize sound, so I have to give this catergory (while reluctantly) a 7/10.
Character (6/10): Yuzu just has this rare charisma to her that she is very easy to root for. Her relationship with Mei translates as genuine and with good intent. So far, I enjoy watching her on the screen very much. Mei is OKAY, but I admit that there are some good use of subtle detail. The rest of the cast, however, is generic... well accept 1 who I will not talk about for spoilers :). My favorite part about these characters is that they feel human. Everyone is flawed, and everyone is genuine. Well done for making me care Citrus. The two white haired girls on the cover and opening, however, are pretty unenjoyable. These two additional characters kind of ruined this show for me. If this anime was 10 episodes, I would be more satisfied. 6/10
Final Thoughts: Go watch Citrus. I think it beats Darling in the Franxx in terms of romance and characters, but you know that's just my opinion. Citrus is good, but its not even close to very good; just watch it to enjoy and don't let the yuri bother you.

I am going to take a risky side with this review: Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futabi-hen was disappointing. The atmosphere and the seriousness vibe was completely shakened by the new main character, which I thought was actually for the worse.
Story 6/10 Compared to its 1st season, this series is just weak. You can't say comparing the two is invalid, this season very very much relies on the 1st season. My main issue comes from the weaker characters, who are actually not THAT weak. It's only when I remeber the first season is it when I just realize how hollow the 2nd season characters are.
...
Many more characters show up, and their significance is shallow compared to the first season, making it feel bland.
Art and Sound are both okay. Everything is mellow and sets up the atmosphere well, except when you have a loud af main character. I am far more interested in everyone else, especially Yakumo.
Characters 5/10 Did the anime feel good at the end, yeah the ending was fufilling. But I just thought that was too much said and not implied. I was the masterful technique that is subtly slowly dwindling as the series progressed, and this was very disappointing. Yakumo especially, even though he was great the first season. There was a serious lack of focus on specific characters, and this was much much needed because that is the core strength of this show. Why the hell do I have to care about shark tooth man or Sukeroku's former boss? The only reason why I am giving this a 5 as opposed to a lower score is that the twist towards the middle-end of the show was truly noteworthy and eye opening.
Enjoyment 5/10- mostly disappointment
Overall 10/10
The first season is god tier, but you can skip this series. There is sitll some value but do not expect the same show and the same depth.

Ladies and gentlemen, we live in a world where subversion of tropes is no longer unique. I have seen and dropped many many animes that do this. Sometimes I just want to stop thinking about the flaws of a series and just enjoy it- Nanatsu no Taizai is that series.
This season of the series mainly focuses on regrouping the Seven Deadly Sins, all of whom having their own unqiue superpowers and personalities, to beat down the Holy Knights (basically the government of this world). This premise is simple and clear, and that's good enough. This is all okay because the series focuses and excels
...
at enjoyment.
Take the characters for example. The characters are definitely NOT complex (well maybe exempt one), but they just make you root for them. For example, the pig Hawk's main purpose is to be the comedic relief, which I usually despise, but I am charmed by his reactions and suggestions to the way more powerful pack that is the Seven Deadly Sins.
The original sound track, openings, and endings are just fun too. They all set up this as a tale, an adventure.
I did watch this in order to watch the second season, and I am just going to say that if you are on the borderline of watching Nanatsu no Taizai then just watch the opening of season 2.

Junni Taisen is the definition of "generically unique." The story is okay. The art is okay. The sound is okay. The characters are okay. There are some worthy moments, but there are also some terribly-made episodes (like the animation is SUPER bad for one episode).
I recommend this for viewers who want something NEW, however. A deathmatch is nothing new, but its the ambiance of Junni Taisen that's different. Firstly, the story is told without a main character. The attention latches you in with a mystery aspect concerning many of the characters, but these are held out just as long as they need to be.
...
The characters have pretty unique designs too, but don't expect anything too deep.
Unlike many shows, Junni Taisen actually ends and everything is answers, which is rare. Was it satisfying, not really, but it was complete.
Junni Taisen is for the enjoyment. Do not think too much and consume the fight scenes.

I am catergorizing this review in 6 parts: evaluating the story, art, sound, characters, enjoyment, and finally providing my overall opinions. *I have only seen UBW, Zero, and Apoc; haven't played or seen any more of the fate world than those.
First I want to make it clear that I do NOT HATE the Fate series; There is something alluring about a war taken place in the shadows, with seven magic-wielding individuals each summoning one of the many greatest heroes of all time. Fate/Apocryoha (Apoc) diverges from this formula slightly: a full-out war in a 7 vs 7 death match... and I guess 1 more ruler
...
class servant who is completely unbaised.
Well, having an out-in-the-open war is already diverging from the secretive atmosphere of the grail war formula- it ignores the dimension that these mages do not wish to interfere with the well-being of all of these muggles. And sure, this setup may also produce more fights between servants, but the weight and quality would severly take a toll with a lack of development. To me, the overall structure of Apoc seems like it sets itself up to make as much badass moments as possible, but I really don't see anything to attach to. And I would say that's slightly below average (4). In fact, I only finished this series so I can have enough credibility to provide my insight on this series. With the background story considered, I am going to consider the main story of Apoc- a campbell's journey for a homonculus Sieg. His arc is very, very bland and contrived as everything seems to happen just because it happens and I guess its cool-- but its not. Horrible (2). So overall, I would stamp Apoc's story department with a score of (3) as it is pretty stale and bland and is built to focus on badass moments (despite having zero weight).
The next section is art. The background art is just still, and its just bad. Cheap tactics such as recycling the same-dull-bleak setting is just lazy and disgusting. Some may say that the dull-colored background supports the war atmosphere, but Fate/zero had a very strong war atmosphere with beautifully shaded backgrounds. (and note that Fate/Zero was made half a decade before Apoc and the former triumphs over the latter in every catergory). With the character designs... they are overall pretty shit. There are some good gems: Ruler, Saber of black, Rider of black, Caster of black, and Saber of red are good (I would give individually give ruler an 8 and saber of black a 5 and everyone else is between). But one of them is a carbon copy and nothing about any of their appearances reveal anything significant about their personalities. Every other servant, (which was the highlight of every fate series before) is total garbage. WTF is Archer of Black, he has a freaking disgusting mane mullet. I would have given this category a 2, but the art-style did allow for some movement (although sometimes bad can also be sometimes good), so I give art a (3) too.
Sound is short and sweet. This whole show is sound. Everything is supposed to be cool because that one song pops up, the same song, and it ends up not being cool at all. There is absolutely nothing special about the score, in fact I think its very bad. All the openings and endings are good as individual songs, but they are just not a fit for the show and some of them are more fitting in other series. This match is crucial. But as much as I hate to (the openings and endings saved this catergory), I will have to give this category a (3).
Characters make the show for me, for every show. And the Apoc characters suck. The main antagonist seems strangely lazy. Sieg has like a thousand Deus ex Machinas up in his ass. All of the characters have very generic ideologies and their grit never translated to me (something Emiya actually managed to do to me). Don't expect to see character development either, love intrests just happen I guess. And every servant is just too mood-swingy, like for plot. These are the worst characters I have ever met, and I will never ever want to see them again... (1).
I don't know if anyone can tell, but I absolutely did not enjoy Apoc. Immediately, (1). I plagued through this show, and I do not recommend this to anyone unless you don't really care about depth and want to be blinded by the fate lore (which is okay, its your time).
Overall, Apoc is the shittest action show you will ever see and an even shittier character story. You will get some reward by viewing two or three of the best character designs and listening to the openings and endings, but that's the extent of your enjoyment, and even then they are not the best use of your time. Fate fans, you would spend your time better if you were (re)watching Zero or UBW: Zero for a real War with real ideologies and UBW for a real War with real fanservice.
I give Apoc a score of (2), urging anyone to skip this series.
