"I want to know the world outside these walls"
Claria is a Queen half a day, and an explorer the other. She likes to explore the outside of the city walls and often goes to this incredible and marvelous world taken from Alice in Wonderland. Fairies, Lizardmen, even giant monkey-like creatures, she does this on a daily basis to escape her responsibilities at the castle, and whilst doing so, she always wears her distinctive steel helmet to hide her identity.
Isai no Hime tells a fantastic story about a world where humanity is not a the top of the food-chain. Humanity has built cities taken from an
...
era similar to that of the Romans, and they reside always on defense of creatures that might invade at any second.
Little dialog is needed to tell this story as it relies more on it's amazing art.
Few mangas look as beautiful as this one, and the style can even be compared to works by Miura, Kentarou(Berserk). The details are just perfect, the imagination behind the costumes, the historial theme, the armours, monsters, and the characters are on a different level. Outstanding through and through with each chapter.
Although it does follow a main storyline, Isai no Hime often leaves you hanging waiting for the plot to continue. It prefers to further some side-stories with some comical relief and ecchiness that do well to change the dark tone of the story but distract from the seriousness and greatness of it's main storyline. Nevertheless, the story is told so well that you feel fully immersed in this fantastic world from the first chapter.
Claria, our main character, needs few words to express her goals. Her interactions with other creatures and the environment speak for themselves. Little does she speaks that she often transmits with actions, she's a strong character with an indecipherable personality.
One of the most underrated mangas due to its mature themes, Isai no Hime creates a wonderful and stunning world that excels in the art department but lacks in plot continuity. With an intriguing main character and an extraordinary storyline, this manga will make you wish you lived in that era.

"The scum of the world belong in one place and one place only, the trash..."
(For +18 readers only)
With mature themes and a dark tone to the overall story, Trash. is about 2 high school bounty hunters/assassins girls that work for the daughter of a Yakuza, and they have the job of putting the scum and most worthless people in the world "into the trash"(killing them, of course...).
Following Marin "Francesca" and Rushia "Bullet", our overpowered and self-sufficient main protagonists deal with a sea of rapists, killers, gangs, and even other bounty hunters in order to make money to buy food and live.
Blood, intestines, and brains,
...
are only some of the daily experiences our hatchets and pistol dueling killers go through everyday. The plot involves many unexpected cliff hangers and unlikely situations deriving from the characters' involvements. The reality portrayed is often exaggerated, but it does contain many similitudes to our crude world.
The art is impressive in the exaggeration of the action scenes. The gore is enough to invite the hardcore readers as it does well depicting the darkness in this story. Despite it's great art, the over-amplified action scenes can add an unnecessary comic sense to many scenes(apart from the occasional comic relief), but it's dark tone is well kept through-out the manga. The character designs, weapons, and backgrounds are splendid.
The characters' backgrounds are well fleshed out and can create a sense of immersion into understanding their ideologies. Even though it relies heavily on the explicitness of the art, the plot is good on it's own and it's enticing to action lovers.
An exciting fast paced manga with a plot as dark as it's characters. Enjoyable through shootings, stabs, and slashes, you will end up grinding you teeth with hatred towards the Trash of this world.

Who doesn't love manga? who doesn't love video games? But what about a manga about video games?
New game is a short manga that tells the daily life of a high school graduate student in the video game industry. In charge of character modeling, Aoba Suzukaze joins her first ever job into an all women company that makes video games.
Even though it's a slice of life manga and lacks a main plot, it contains lots of information regarding the different aspects of a video game creation, from the different job positions, to the many countless responsibilities they are in charge of, it covers the entire process
...
creation including game distribution via conventions.
The character designs is what is so good about this manga, with very cute girls, mannerisms, and facial expressions. Each character whilst cute, has it's wide selection of many different personalities that usually reside in this kind of moe mangas. Each complement each other to create a warm and cozy environment every reader would love to be in.
It is very engaging to learn about the video game industry whilst following Suzukaze in her new and crazy endeavour through adulthood. Many people can relate to the hardships in her everyday life whilst learning something new, and the occurrences with her new co-workers and friends will make this manga very entertaining for those looking for something "New".

Im, Dal Young, famous for the long running manga Freezing, is back with a spin-off that like the name says, is basically a bunch of love stories between the main pandoras and their limiters.
In comparison to "Freezing", Pair Love Stories leans towards the cute and moe on every department, with romance stories that cover most of the main pairs from the main manga.
The stories are very fast paced but carry emotional baggage. Most of the pairs are made around stories that rely heavily on "fate" and cliche themes rather than on realistic backgrounds. Despite that, it does great to engulf you in a romantic
...
state with very creative and well written plots.
As I've said before, the character designs are very "cutesy", which makes it hard to recognize some of the characters if you follow the main story; also, the setting is around 1 year before the main story and some characters might not look alike, nevertheless, the cuteness adds greatly to the romantic setting and it's great to enjoy some backstory to many side-characters you might be interested in.
Pair Love Stories is a very entertaining and charming manga, the lack of violence or ecchi might put off many readers but the adorable pairings leave a sweet aftertaste from these satisfying romances.

As if Japan didn't have everything already, they also pride themselves on having a HUGE selection of candy and sweets at your nearest convenience stores, and this manga is almost like a throwback to most of the popular sweets in our childhood.
Dagashi Kashi (rough translation) "Cheap Sweets", is an episodic manga about Shikada Kokonotsu, a wannabe-mangaka that is against his father's wishes of managing the town's sweet shop, and Shidare Hotaru, a fan of her father's store and his reputation who also has an (insane)fascination for sweets.
Filled with puns and sweets, each chapter works with a single popular candy to tell the story. From sweet
...
drinks, to gum, to cellphone's filled with candy, to yogurts, Hotaru uses each sweet as an excuse to explain the greatness of candy's existence in the world and to convince Kokonotsu of taking over his father's store. This can bring back many memories if you ever experienced having some of the candy that are brought up in this manga(or lookalikes) and it's a fine way to keep the readers engaged with the story.
The comedy fits the art-style, even if it does feel too rough in some parts, but the characters' eccentricities and quirkiness are well portrayed through the comical expressions and faces the often show.
Dagashi Kashi does not depend on the character development but rather on the ridiculousness of how the candy involved affects the daily lives of our characters, and the shortness of each chapter works as a way to not bore the reader, even if sometimes the story feels lacking.
Very enjoyable and very short, but with tons of sweets, candy, and jokes. This manga is worth following if you have a strong appetite for sugar, sugar, and sugar. (kids don't forget to eat your broccoli!)

Everything in the universe is bound by the rules of balance, Ying and Yang, right and wrong, life and death...
Shinonome Azuma is a very unlucky girl. She lost her parents and ended up living with her uncle's family, but her life went from bad to worse. Child abuse, hate, indifference, are just some of her daily experiences in her new house, and this has driven her to edge.
A strange condition has developed in her called "Alice in Mirrorland" where she sees gruesome and strange monsters through mirrors and reflections in the water. The similarities to an Alice in Wonderland world are many, but this
...
new strange world is not ruled by queens or cheshire cats but by strange monsters and cheshire devils.
Azuma is not alone though, she joins other "chosen ones" in this new world to fight these monsters by creating imaginary weapons. The monsters' attacks resemble natural disasters, hence why people without the "Alice" syndrome can't see them, but defeating the monsters has a twist. A balance must be kept and by killing these monsters a person you know must die, but how will that work for Azuma now that she hates her new family?
This is the real attractive point of the manga, a deadly twist that will later on have plenty more complications and psychological issues.
As you've read, the story starts simple but evolves into a complicated plot for Earth's survival. Along this, there's a lot of action and explicit moments during the fights.
There's a great variation of character personalities that are developed to the point where empathy is inevitable, but sometimes the overdeveloped characters feel too unreal to even understand.
The artwork is really original. The monster and character designs are drawn simply and raw with great tones, but ineffective when living up to the "horror" tag. The characters' facial expressions lack impact with this style but overall the art is good.
Sekai Oni suffers from a really fast paced plot that evolves into many genres and never stays true to a single one, but the creativity behind each plot twist and monster is of great enjoyment for weekly readers.

"Why must one die?" Is being immortal a gift or a curse?
One day, our main character Nagai, Kei finds out the wrong way(and only way) that he's an immortal being with supernatural powers, which is not only bad since the government is after all "Ajins"(Immortals) for experimental purposes but because he's one of the few hundred Ajin's in the world.
His head has a price now, and his mysterious abilities make him the perfect target for everyone around him. Who will remain his friend and who will betray him?
Kei is given a quick introduction into a very realistic world.
Ajin is filled with psychological and
...
existential issues that question society's morals when dealing with this new "race". How would society react to these immortal people? It has many similarities to our world and it's a way to feel empathy with the characters and that part of the story since we too deal with issues like racism and discrimination.
The main character goes through many ideology changes throughout the manga as he fights for his freedom and "survival". His best friend plays a big part in his new life, and both are given great character development. Other characters are also well developed to show the other side of the coin, the cruel humans and the typical greedy government.
The art is great. The gore elements that are added for shock value are superb. Everything is really well drawn and the style blends well with the story. All designs and especially the Ajin's mysterious "ability" make the story more engaging.
The seriousness of this manga describes very well how we humans act in face of death and pain. People turn selfish and hateful when pushed to the limit, add a mystery and supernatural concept into the mix and you have the story of an immortal kid with a strange power.

Would you be able to keep your crush's biggest secret from everyone knowing that you are the most honest person in the world?
MAL's summary of Jitsu wa Watashi wa might put off many readers because it implies it is just another "My crush is a vampire and I have to keep it a secret from everyone in school" but it is more than that. In fact, that only describes the first 3 chapters or so, which reminds me of the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover".
After Kuromine, Asahi(our main character) finds out about Youko's vampire secret, Asahi goes through many absurd and hilarious
...
situations when finding out that she is not the only one in their school with a secret. The many other characters with secrets that join them later on add to the spice of comedy on each of their occurrent bizarre and amusing situations.
Each character is given great detail in their developments that mostly further up the intensity of the ridiculousness of their encounters. From that cliched childhood friend and marriage promise, to the unlikely pairing with an extraterrestrial. And although it is a bit episodic, it does develop most of the characters with short arcs that always involve our lucky main character.
Of course, the strong point of this manga is the comedy, always with outrageous situations and wacky adventures that challenge our MC's ability to keep a secret.
The character designs also add greatly to the comedy behind each pun. The huge eyes and exaggerated facial expressions make every bit of conversation even more hilarious.
This is one of the funniest mangas out there without a doubt and it's no surprise an anime adaptation is already in production. It's English translation is perfect, and every joke and pun are easily understandable with no meaning lost in translation.
Jitsu wa Watashi wa is a rainbow of comedy filled with ridiculousness in every corner, and an underrated manga that also teaches many messages of friendship and kindness with a touch of silliness.

We've all dreamed of having superpowers, but what if one day you're told you have one and it turns out to be the worst(or the best???) power in the world?
The story is set in a world where people called "strangers" are the wielders of superpowers and their powers are ranked from E to A(E being the weakest).
Our MC Shimonone Takara is a kid with big dreams of having amazing superpowers. He even practices his future signature moves every day in order to be ready for when his powers "awaken". If only his power turned out to be the one he actually wanted...
The comical situations our
...
MC and his harem are involved in include many ridiculous and ecchi moments that are triggered by his "power". These situations come frequently as he's still new to it, and many times he can't control himself... literally...
Your typical comedy/shounen manga actually does well in the comedy department, but it's filled with plot cliches that become repetitive with each chapter. The character development is also cliched and unsatisfying, filled with countless flashbacks that only feel forced on the story to tie up nonexistent loose ends. And as with all harem genres, the characters' relationships disappoint.
The art is good, it does well to transmit the quirkiness and the funny reactions of the characters. The character designs are really good too, they fit all their personalities perfectly. The powers are also well drawn, specially the powers of the MC and the main girl of his harem.
Rising x Rydeen was an entertaining manga with many great comedy moments that left you laughing at the end of each "release", but felt flawed when the real plot came in.
An anti-climatic ending and an overall experience that begs for a "read the LNs for more", Rising x Rydeen is an overall good read for comedy and ecchi lovers.

"I don't want to die!"
-->If you are unfamiliar with the prequel and were wondering if you need to read it beforehand, worry not, I will answer all your questions.
As the Gods Will is a manga about tests of courage, intelligence, strength, teamwork, and friendship.
One day, all high school students around the world were given certain tests and games by a mystery man in order for him to single out "god's children". Most of these tests were simple childhood games like red light/green light, left hand/right hand, or hopscotch, but with deadly stakes.
Unlike it's prequel, the kids in this story never made it to school
...
when the "darumas" started the deadly games due to many reasons like sickness or skipping school, but their goal is the same: survive.
Like it's prequel, the story adds many elements of horror and gore to keep the reader engaged in a guessing game on which character will survive and who will not, and it's real life similarity feels fresh when kids face life or death choices "should I risk my life for a stranger? "should I risk my life for my friends?" "should I risk my life for love?"
Teamwork and unselfishness are put to the test and many kids' true nature will come out when their life is against the wall.
The character development is superb. Everyone gets a backstory and you will definitely get attached to some characters, which isn't always a good thing with survival genres...
It was even comical in some parts, to understand a character's ideology and determination just to see their dreams come crashing down when their luck runs out.
The art definitely makes you feel a certain degree of empathy with the aggressiveness of their facial expressions. The character designs fit their personalities, and the antagonists are complex and very creative.
This manga has it all, from romance to comedy, from mystery to supernatural. It's shounen elements are very noticeable, and the ridiculous outcomes, character relationships, and the witty, eccentric, and bizarre character personalities make this underrated manga an enjoyable ride.
-->You "don't have to" read the prequel, but it's recommended to do so in order to understand and recognize many characters and plot developments that crossover to this story.
Still, this sequel falls a bit short of it's predecesor with it's lack of character resolve and plot fluidity.
