I’m ready to defend this anime >: (
Honestly the people who says this anime is shit are shallow as fuck. If you don’t want to watch this anime solely because people said so, don’t listen to them. I think people are too blinded by how great this anime is because of all the fanservice which I think their opinion is valid. Personally though, I don’t want to disregard the quality of the anime just because of that. their interactions is so cute. I might have a slight bias because I find myself in Marin minus the sexually suggestive scenes.

It really pisses me off when people say dress up darling is a mid anime and I’m ready to defend it with my life. The story in this anime is VERY well written especially the part where Wakana was trying his best to meet the deadline and having trouble doing just that. Throughout that part I was wishing him the best and when Marin said she got the date wrong, my frustration towards Marin and the relief that Gojou must have felt is something that I feel really deeply. Also the part at the motel, *THAT* scene was so toe curling, hair twirling, gut wrenching, sweat dripping, cheeks flushing scene I have EVER seen in anime. The tension was THERE there and you know they both are thinking the same thing without uttering a single word.
The characters have a very distinct personality however the way they respond to different situations is very realistic and relatable. Like how Wakana is known as a “good shy boy” but, just like the rest of us, he has naughty thoughts and that’s okay !! he is a high schooler so it’s self explanatory. For Marin, her very outgoing and “YOLO” impulsive personality reflects on her homelife, very messy and the shit she eats is the type that you can make quickly which I can relate to a lot. It’s so pleasant to see characters that have relatable qualities and flaws since a lot of animes have characters which are one-dimensional in my opinion, I’m not saying it’s necessarily bad since it’s for the sake of simplicity but sometimes I appreciate it when the characters are complex.
Again I hear ya’ll, the fanservice is pretty excessive. A lot of newer anime fans might be tired of it. Personally, I got so used to fanservice that I’m just numb to it at this point. It’s also pretty weird how Marin is 15 and in the anime she’s placed as a very sexually appealing character, it’s not a new thing though since that typa shit has been in anime for a very long time. I also think that the sudden dramatic shit that happened in the first half of the anime and then suddenly a slife-of-life-esque shift on the second half was odd. Let’s not forget about the tanning controversy as well.
Other than that, the anime has a great story, AMAZINGLY good animation like holy shit, and really good music if i say so myself. I’m so sorry for this entire ass essay. That is all :DD
