BIG O, BIG O BIG BIG O!
DAN DAN DANN DAN DAN DANN
Cast thee in the Name Of GOD, Ye are Not Guilty!
We have come to Terms
BIG OOoo!
Sorry about that.
Right, Big O really sticks in my mind as the most Stylish anime I've ever seen. "To heck with your giant shoulder pads and fancy jet packs" it says to the rest of the Mecha Genre; Lets have some Giant Piston Arms and Solid Grey Iron Exterior.
And that is, frankly, Awesome.
My perennial complain with Mecha Animes is that their all so "graceful" and "humanoid". The mechs are never just giant hunks of walking metal that
...
punch their enemy's into pulp. Big O goes so far against this tradition that it even has an episode making fun of it. And, of course, that "making fun" is done with Style, poise and tact.
That aside:
Big O has style in all facets. The animation doesn't go into for super-deformity, aside from when the main character believes he's a Tomato of course. Its crisp and clear, its got hard black lines and straight hair. It gives off an aura of refined class.
The Characters are the same, they don't go in for extremes of emotion or action (aside from Beck). Everyone is set in their role (a very important plot point in fact), they act within their part and don't get tangled up in messy side plots. The story of each episode is mildly stand alone, but works into the overall Plot in the end. There is, I think, romance, but its tastefully understated and doesn't intrude unnecessary into the main plot. Fan service is almost non-existent, as it should be in such a show.
The Music is perfect. Jazz and Queen, a marvellous combination.
Of course, its also unfinished. I don't care what anyone says, there is no way that was a proper ending. Nothing was resolved at all, we merely got a whole load more confusing things dumped on us, at high speed too. It could have been great, It could have been marvellous, but as it was it just leaves the series with a deep sense of In completion.
If those responsible are reading this, MAKE A THIRD SEASON! I remember signing that online petition that was about a few years back.

What is it I love about Blue Submarine 6...
Well, I remember, vaguely, watching it in instalments, back during those beautiful 6 months when I was 6 and we had free Cable, on Toonami. At yes, along side those hours watching Gundamn Wing and Chris Colorado, there was this odd little show about a Blue Submarine and some odd Animal men.
Back then, I wasn't so crazy on it, but that was mostly because I could never work out what order the episodes went in. I had this vague idea I might be watching them out of sync, or perhaps that I missed one.
Now of course, its
...
14 years on and I've got the series.
And Damn do I love it.
Blue Sub 6 does not, really, stand out in any particular category. No numerical store I could give it would really do justice to how Much I really Like it. The Animation is smooth, beautiful, but its not remarkable in any way. The Story isn't perfectly original, but its good and it has some wonderful little details. Frankly, the characters don't stand out at all for me.
But somehow, all put together, its a truly enthralling thing to watch. There's a noticeable lack of Romance, although I think there's something implied between Mutio and Tetsu. And perhaps Tetsu and Mayumi too. The Scenes of underwater combat are stylish, well done, and fairly believable, but the far enough between that you can't call this a "Battle Anime". The Scenes with the animal men are...Strange, but present a rather interesting view of them. Very human, yet clearly not.
The Music is rather nice too, some wonderfully appropriate Jazz tunes in there. Rather reminds me of Big O in that respect. but I can't say it stands out in this regard either
In fact, all in all, my reason for loving this series cannot be found in any particular aspect of it. Its, so to speak, in the completion rather than the components.

I've got to be honest. Were it not for one, massive, issue I have with this series, It would be my favourite anime by a landslide. Everything about it is just so...Incredible well done that its hard to critique it on anything but personal preference.
The Animation might look a bit plain, but its perfect for the series because it permits such a degree of variation throughout the series. The actual quality of the Art and Animation is very high, but it seemingly mundane enough that it doesn't distract attention from the true Core of the series:
The Plot.
Lain has, no questions asked, the best story I've
...
ever seen in an Anime. Its more twisted than Evangelion, more confusing than Flcl, and more polished than...a very shiny table. It doesn't draw on vast numbers of, often obscure, references, its Acsessable to the average man. BUT, at the same time, its got depths to it that you can't plumb without a mile long cable of Solid Thinking.
But, even better, it does, slowly and somewhat obscurely, explain itself. Not completely, because no anime of its kind would ever give away all its secrets, but at least some of those mystery's DO get cleared up for you.
Oh, and I love the soundtrack. Especially that opening theme. Oh god how I love that Opening Theme.
Oh, and despite my previous statements, the animation is beautiful. Watch the opening sequence and marvel at the sheer brilliance of Lain's facial expressions. Wonder at the consistency in the little features, like the slashes of blood in the shadows or the little touches to Lains appearance that show her development through the series. If I were a girl, I would wear that hair clip.
Heck, I'd wear it now If I had one.
But, like all Animes, it has one, in this case Vast, flaw for me.
That ending.
GOD that ending.
HOW I HATE THAT ENDING
No spoilers now, but if anyone ever claims that was a proper "Happy and plot resolving" ending I will cut their lips off. (not really)
But still, If I could, this series would have an overall score of 12. Probably 13.

I love Love Hina for a lot of reasons.
For one, it was the first Anime I watched in Japanese. But that's irrelevant to you.
So lets give some proper, review style, reasons.
Naru, for me, defines Tsundere. Throughout the whole series, right to the end, refuses to give in to the inevitable, continues beating Keitaro to a pulp, keeps up at least some of her walls. Its both hilarious and somewhat touching.
Keitaro himself is such a memorable character that he's almost worth a series in himself. Watching (or Reading), its fairly obvious that he doesn't really deserve half of the bad stuff happening to him, yet
...
you still anticipate it each time. He is, at once, incredibly lucky and constantly chased by misfortune. He's clearly quite smart at points, but so often acts like a fool that its hard to believe he's anything but an idiot.
Spending too long on Keitaro now...Moving on
If Love Hina has a downside, its that most of the laughs revolve around someone (generally Keitaro) being subjected to vicious beatings. There are a couple "Smart" laughs, but most is violence or silly humour. That's not Bad per say, but by the end of the series you'll probably view the beatings as just part of the background.
What's important about the series is the romance, the way everyone falls for Keitaro, but for him its never really anyone but Naru. A lot of Harem Mangas and Animes get too involved in the various different romance, so by the end its almost impossible for the Un/Luckly man to choose which woman he truly loves. Love Hina doesn't have that problem, and is all the better for it.
If I must be honest, I prefer the Manga to the anime. But that's ONLY because the Manga ending was, frankly, a lot better than the "Again" Episodes they gave the Anime. But still, I only read the manga After the anime, and it'll always hold a place in my heart.

There are, perhaps, 3 reasons why this is my Favourite Anime. And one why it nearly isn't...
Firstly, and most importantly, I simply Love the style of it. The Animation is, in my opinion awesome. Ever watched Tengen Toppa or FLCL? Its Gainax at its best, doing those wonderful super-deformed animations that manages to maintain a very high quality of animation. Its not realistic in any sense of the word, but you still find yourself watching it and finding it so easy to understand.
Secondly, the story is a follow on to the original Gunbuster. Which, for me, somewhat set the bar for many Mecha Animes. But
...
more importantly, it isn't really a Sequel. It doesn't finish off the plot of Gunbuster; Gunbuster doesn't need finishing, it had a pretty definitive end. What it does is proves to us that Noriko really DID save the human race.
Finally, despite being a "Sequel", its story is wonderful and, importantly, stands entirely on its own. You can watch Diebuster without ever hearing of Gunbuster, and you'll still love it. The connections between the series aren't even openly obvious until the third episode, but if you look their there from the start.
But there is that one, single, Down point T mentioned. My only regret for Diebuster is, strangely enough, the ending. I can't say exactly what because of Spoilers, but to me its almost MORE depressing than the almost-ending of Gunbuster. At least they Do get home, together. But Lark and Nono...
Gah, Spoilers. Watch it and form your own opinions.
