Great show!
If there's two harems i really like (and I like my harems) it's Data a Live and High School DxD. One could call it Yin-Yang sorta thing are both of them are polar opposites of eachoter.
If you want extremely charming, loveable and kindhearted girls that surround the painfully mediocre protagonist in happy/silly spoof on eroge games with some grim moments then Date a Live is where it's at.
Conversly if you want a group of nice, but not absolutely genre - breaking and memory defining girls swarming a kickass protagonist that you'll love from the first sight then this show is for you.
...
Not to mention the humor here is also top notch, albeit of a more perverted sort ;)
Meet Hyodo Issei, the proud boobie lover and pervert. A virgin (not so proud there;). And basically an anime bro to most of guys out there in our high school years. Life is brutal for Issei. Albeit he's in a school which majority of students being female and guys being very few and far between, poor soul still doesn't get to see any action (not for lack of trying to peep on girls mind you) as the girls, just like in real life will all swarm the top handsome, top grading and excellent in sports Kiba, completely ignoring existence of normal perv...guys like Issei along with laws of physics (300 girls can't have same guy).
But we didn't come here to see a mopey loser cry about his life, we came to see a charismatic teenage perv get his harem + his boobies and kick some ass while making you laugh yours off in the running time of this mix of comedy and shounen with some demonic aspects.
Long story short after his first date ending not the way he wanted (brutally killed by fallen angel pretending to be his first gf) he is resurrected by his secret school crush who turns out to be a high ranking devil and learns that as the next morning he finds her in his bed, naked and not very shy about the situation or her body. Rias (his actual firstgirl experience) leads him on a journey to strenghtening as his hidden ability marked him as target for the world of occult and he needs to get on top of his game fast to survive.
...right after complaning to himself (with curse words :>) about having a naked girl in bed and not remembering jack about his first time!
This is what makes this show awesome. Issei is 100% honest with himself, you get a ton of laughs from his pure, honest perverted reactions and 0% bullshit about his desires and plain honest manly, hormone driven agenda;) He also get his badass moments when we feel his anger and root for him with all our perveted might, that just tops the "i love this MC chart".
Here's where girls come in, as unlike a flock of femnazi harpies which some of harem shows are sadly known for (Love Hina for one!) Issei is not treated like a rag, a piece of trash and generally being used and abused on every step by his new demonic family. The girls are very friendly to Issei and while powerful, you never see any of them try to abuse that power on Issei. This is awesome as it builds the strength of bond he has with them and let's him grow as a man, unlike the so many harem protagonists that are castrated by their female crew, for no good reason apparently as they didn't have any balls to begin with!
While not so much in season one there is development in girls where over time we learn more about them and the more reluctant ones (church emiisaries + Koneko) will warm up to issei.
Another strong entry is Issei's "power", which turns out is a soul of extremely powerful dragon locked away in a "sacred gear" that took form of a gauntlet. Draig (as that's his name) greatly fills the role of badass dragon on Issei's side, sometimes acting as bit of a father figure, that hopelessly tries to cling to any remnants of his dragon dignity as Issei's pervertness makes even dragons admit defeat ;)
But all that is me running my mouth over something that should be put in two sentences:
A great show that gave me an insanely likeable protagonist and tons of laughs with mandatory boobies! ;) Go watch it, now!
