This is my first time writing a review in MAL. Since I really enjoyed Yuru Camp, might as well tell you why I gave it an overall 9.
Art - 10
Ah, yes. Clearly seen from the first throughout the last episode, the atmospheric background and complimentary colours feel so natural and appealing to the eyes. There is no dull moment, everything is full in colour yet pleasing. It also allows you to feel the vibe of warmth or coldness as if you were part of the scene.
There is also good colour harmony with character designs like how Rin and Nadeshiko compliment colours (see their
...
eyes and hair colour) or the characters' outfit. Also liked how they chose pastel colours for this.
Character - 10
At first glance, the art style seemed cutesy and well having watched 300+ anime, my first impression was the cliché fan service and typical personality types but there was none which I really liked. I like my slice of life with a sense of realism and relives the mind when watching. The characters can be grouped between calm and hyper but all unique in their ways. For example, Saitou and Rin are both calm but Rin is more active.
The show also made good use of when to use supporting characters or when they should enter. Supporting characters are usually portrayed as props but here they are memorable and likeable.
Sound - 10
Enjoyment - 9
Story - 9
The setting & plot is already unique for me, camping... in winter. Setting: outside of the norms like not at home, no beach.. or festivals which most of us already know what event takes place. Yuru Camp shows you a different place or experience. One selling point of this is the mysteriousness of what the next campsite would be.
I think it thought well of its audience.. relativity. What I studied in Media class is that most people like to relate. (I try my best to be spoiler free so..) The show sometimes add scenarios which the audience had experience like malfunctions of equipment and audience wanting to camp would be like 'oh yeah.. this could happen.. oh no.' then they leave tips on how to avoid it just to leave satisfaction and stop the uneasiness.
Overall - 9
Its a thoughtfully well-crafted work. I, evidently, gave it a high praise.
However, I find myself watching it and stopping halfway. Maybe just self-preference but I truly did enjoy. Hoping to see more from Kyougoku, Yoshiaki! Its his debut anime but did an awesome job.
