First the two shows both have a very similar leading pair. A good-natured male protagonist, who is suddenly thrown into life-changing, worldview-altering new circumstances. In both cases, he wants to support his female partner, who in both cases possesses magical abilities, is short and feisty. And what do you know, both of them happen to be voiced by the woman whose name is synonymous, Kugimiya Rie. It doesn’t stop there, however, as both of the male leads are also voiced by the same man, Hino Satoshi. It looks like we’re off to a pretty good start when it comes to a basis for comparison. Both series are also brought to us by the studio J.C. Staff, which leads to a fairly similar art style. While there are a lot of artistic similarities, the color pallets used are different for each show; each complimenting the feel of the show very well. Another similarity, and this is the last I’ll bring up, is the fantasy setting both shows take place in. While Shana is set in an altered version of our world, and Zero is set in a completely different dimension, they are both nevertheless fantasy-based settings, and in both cases this is an important aspect of the show.
