When I tell people to watch this show, they tend to brush it off because it's an idol anime. Because they think it's going to be typical reverse harem show. Then I get them to watch just the first two episodes and then they're addicted.
Story: 9/10
It's not the usual "I have talent, I'm going to be an idol" plotline. Rather, nothing actually goes smoothly for these precious boys. The story likes to throw a lot of stuff at you and then only solve a few of the questions you have. It's kind of frustrating since there are plot lines that you would like to see
...
discovered but are never explored (until later in the game). But most of the anime is dedicated to the struggles of the group as a whole and builds up harmony and relationships. It's pretty down to earth for an idol anime and although there are cliches, they build off the cliches instead of leaving it unaddressed.
Art: 9/10
What more can I say? They all look SUPER pretty. It's an idol anime afterall, can't have idols without prettiness. It's not perfect since it's got some spotty CG in there, but most of it's pretty well done. It was just a bit jarring with the switch between animation and CG.
Sound: 10/10
Great soundtrack. If you don't find yourself humming along to the songs, it'll usually end up stuck in your head later. They originally had some great songs, but then added in more anime original songs to keep even the fans of the game happy. The voice acting is also superb. Each voice actor does an amazing job at making the characters sound natural and like their own selves. They really seem alive rather than a character in a show.
Character: 10/10
There is no way you will not love every single one of these characters. Sure, you'll have favorites, but even characters you start off disliking will worm their way into your heart. Each character is surprisingly profound and is developed throughout the show. Heck, even the manager is given character development. Sure, some more then others (there are a lot of characters. They can't fit it all) but each has their own charms. Each person has their own set of struggles, but watching them influence each other and themselves gives you a strange sense of hope. THEY'RE ALL PURE I TELL YOU. PURE TO THE SOUL.
Enjoyment: 9/10
Each episode seems pretty short even though they're the same length as usual. They like to end each episode with cliffhangers, which sucks, but it'll have you on the edge of your seat at all times. Some of the events are predictable, but each reaction from the cast will have you laughing one moment, crying the next, and some moments of outrage because WHY DO THEY NEED TO GO THROUGH THIS?
I've loved IDOLiSH7 since the game released two years ago. I'm so happy to see it's getting so much love and support. Color me biased, but this franchise has a lot going for it. And it's not just because they're pretty to look at. The amount of love the creators also put into the series is conveyed easily to the amount of character building and world building that is evident in the series. Not the usual reverse harem, but bros and girls alike should be able to find something they enjoy about this series.

Can we just take a moment in how good Lindo looks in a frilly apron?
Story: 7/10
Applause in escaping the usual reverse harem curse! Sure we have the usual, one episode per one guy to get to know him, but the end just focused in plot and the main two possible pairings (which is pretty obvious if you watch the opening). I really liked how they didn't just focus on devils but brought in the vampires and exorcists into it as well. Usually they just focus on one mythological race, like say, gods or vampires, but this one has it all. The story is nice and
...
consistent, focusing on the main storyline rather than the romance, which most of the same genre tend to do (unless they can't pick a guy and it just ends up being very half-assed since most of the plot comes from picking a guy). It's nice to see that my original prediction was wrong as heck and the main villain is not, in fact, a devil.
Art: 7/10
Uh.... so major deduction on the action scenes. Just couldn't animate it to look natural and not ridiculous. It's times like those that take away from the seriousness of the anime, but the rest is pretty dang beautiful. The character designs are great and all the guys looks sexy. Ritsuka is pretty but not impossibly so, so it takes away from the usual, you have to be super angelically pretty to get all dem hot guys. Really wish they didn't do the sudden change of clothing in the last couple of episodes since it makes them seem like power rangers and transform to fight the evil, but most of the time, their clothing is on point. Especially Ritsuka's final blue dress. It's really pretty.
Sound: 8/10
Round of an applause to all the talented voice actors that sung in the anime! The lyrics were kind of ridiculous since they were designed to fit with the storyline of the anime and the anime only and can't really apply to any sort of situation you could end up in, but it wasn't painful to listen to. Rather is was quite beautiful. I mean, the cast didn't exactly include the main singers of the voice acting community (insert most of the cast of UtaPri right here), but I really liked the songs. And they were well placed and made sense and weren't over the top (StarMyu, I am looking at you) and the pseudo-MV in the middle of the episode was animated greatly, so zero complaints!
Characters: 6/10
Nyeh.... typical characters for a reverse harem. The aloof, the flirt, the masochist (typical for a horror reverse harem), the bad boy, and the childhood friend (who isn't very friendish and more like family). I want to focus more on Ritsuka here since she ISN'T dumb and follows everything the male cast says. She actually thinks things through before triggering the flag event (because they have to be triggered, right?). She's not some sack of dough and actually plays a big part in the final conclusion. Most reverse harem heroines just kind of let things happen while Ritsuka makes things happen. It was nice to see someone where I don't get angry and pissed off because all she does is stand there and let everything drop to hell (namely Chizuru and Yui). The male cast is, as I said, typical for a reverse harem, but the finding of Ritsuka made my day.
Enjoyment: 6/10
I liked watching Dance with Devils each week since it was beautiful and had a good plot and I was curious as to what would happen next. It wasn't really a "I MUST WATCH THIS AS SOON AS IT COMES OUT" but it wasn't exactly something I put off either. It was just a nice thing to watch during the middle of the week between my good Monday animes and strong weekend animes.
Overall: 7/10
Appealing to look at and appealing to watch. It's sort of new to the reverse harem genre, and I am willing to watch a second season (since that's definitely how they ended. They're definitely planning on a second season. Please tell me I'm not just being paranoid). But I guess now that they don't have the grimoire to chase, I wonder what they would make the seconds season about. Hopefully a more satisfying end romantically.

Story: 5/10
The story wasn't exactly bad, but it was just leaps and bounds behind the original Hidan no Aria series with Aria as the actual heroine. The story was pretty standard for the Hidan no Aria series with our heroines fighting with the mysterious organization I-U with the cliche turn around points. The spin-off takes place in the same time period as when Aria first met Kinji, which was awfully confusing because I'm pretty sure at the time, Aria was living with Kinji and not in some fancy shmancy apartment building. I know the main focus of the series isn't on Aria, but the lack
...
of Kinji in the series makes it difficult to exactly place the series time period wise.
Art & Sound: 7/10
I usually don't have very many complaints about the animation and soundtrack of anime, unless it's like painfully obviously bad. I liked the opening since it was more rock then cutsy, which is what you would expect for an anime with only girls. The animation is smooth and flows well with little impediment to the action sequences. Although when Akari does her secret move thingy, it's kind of ridiculous.
Character: 1/10
Main blow to the series, the cast of characters isn't as good as the original. Aria is way more pathetic in this series as opposed to the tsundere badass heroine that we know in the original series. She may be the "sempai" of the series, but she's too nice and too understanding. She's the heir to the Holmes family for god's sake. You have to make her more badass instead of the pansy that she is in the series. And Akari as a heroine is just too pathetic. She was suppose to be the "clumsy and useless but actually skilled" character mold, but this is just pathetic. There was zero character development and all of a sudden she just goes "Oh lol, I was actually hiding my true potential because I'm actually a trained assassin teehee" and all of a sudden her skills increase in leaps and bounds. The other cast are just plain stupid as well since we have the routine shoujo ai thing going on in an all girls anime. None of the characters really have any character development. They're all just super flat. Like SUPER flat. Plus the lack of Kinji is just painful (or just the lack of major male characters).
Enjoyment: 3/10
Kind of those "turn on and do something else" animes. I really didn't have very much motivation in watching this. Heck, the only reason I started watching this was because I thought it was the second season to Hidan no Aria and not some weird spin-off it actually was. Doesn't get me very pumped at all (unless you like little girls fighting each other with guns while looking beautiful and cute). It tried, but didn't really do the series justice.
Overall: 2/10
Definitely wouldn't recommend this to someone to watch. I'd just tell them to watch the original Hidan no Aria. Really uneventful storyline with pathetic and stupid (lack of a better word) characters that can't seem to keep their minds off sleeping with each other. I came here looking for action packed fighting scenes and left with shoujo ai lolicons getting all ichaicha together. A shame to the Hidan no Aria series.

Enter the next coming of UtaPri! Or what it was suppose to be, I think. This one is just another in the singing anime trend that's been going on. Well, with the rise in popularity of the voice actors, I'm not very surprised.
StarMyu is a bit different from UtaPri since there is zero romance (and lots and lots of bromance). Kind of to the point where I think it borders the shounen ai genre, but I like to think of it as guys who are extremely close friends. Yes.
Story: 5/10
The story itself is pretty cliche. It follows that group of failures/ oddballs that are
...
picked up by oddball yet talented senpai and turned into sparkling talents themselves through hardwork and conflict. Pretty standard for animes regarding the entertainment industry. Standard set.
Art: 9/10
The anime is really pretty to look at as well. The character designs aren't too flashy, but give off the "I am the main character" vibe and it's great. The dance sequences are also animated really well, although I wish they could change the dance choreography a bit, but that's just personal taste. It's a really pretty and beautifully done anime in terms of the animation department! 9/10.
Sound: 8/10
The cast of the anime sing really well. I can't give it a lower score. They've got some sweet songs in the anime, but not nearly as good as UtaPri. They used singing voice actors, including Ono Kensho, who's actually a singer. This was one of the first singing animes I've heard with Hanae Natsuki in the cast, but from the character songs I've heard, he's a pretty decent singer as well. Nice songs to listen to and the lyrics aren't strange to listen to outside of context! Although listening to some duets between the guys was difficult to take seriously because the lyrics were clearly love lyrics, but it was because of some bromance conflict thing.
Characters: 6/10
The cast is also pretty standard set. You've got the optimistic try-hard who starts off as the hole of the team and can't do anything from lack of experience. Then you have the shy boi who's good at cooking and cleaning, the mama of the group of boyz. Then you have the arrogant one that calls everyone a boor because he's got a ton of kabuki talent and comes from a renown family. Then the aniue complex boi who has his stuff together but always feels overshadowed by his bro-bro. And you can't forget the aloof one who's strange and didn't really have much character development because he just sort of got along with everyone without an episode dedicated to him. I mean, they show why he's so mature and stuff, but in the end he just kind of joins with no conflict. Pretty standard boy bandy stuff.
Enjoyment: 8/10
The dance scenes were pretty enjoyable to watch, although they just kind of broke out into song in the most random places and I couldn't help but make to fun of it. Like I said, it was really pretty to look at and the characters may be standard but their pretty balanced so their interactions are pretty entertaining to follow as well. Story's not really memorable though.
Overall: 8/10
If they had come up with a better scriptwriter, I think the anime would've been a lot better than it was. The overall plot was just cliche and bad. The animation and sound made me watch the anime through the end and definitely made me enjoy it. If you want singing, pretty boys, and great animation, StarMyu is where it's at.

ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH
One Punch Man is probably the pinnacle of shounen anime. And before Goku/Superman fanboys get on my butt by saying Goku or Superman is stronger, let's get this straight.
Saitama is meant to be a parody character. He's suppose to be the embodiment of all the plot armor/ protag hacks that occur in all shounen anime. Trust me, if Goku wasn't the main character and becoming Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, he probably would have died in like three episodes. The idea of Saitama is that he kills everything with one punch, so please, let's respect this idea and leave the fanboy argument.
Now that that's
...
out of the way, One Punch Man is definitely a new addition to the shounen series. Yeah, it's pretty much full blown shounen from the get go, but the idea of a totally average human being with no enhancements and no dark back story becoming so overpowered is completely new. Saitama's just this guy who goes around in a yellow jump suit rescuing people as a hobby but get's completely annoyed when people start to idolize him. He just wants to live a quiet normal life catching villains. Then our cyborg hottie Genos pops into Saitama's life and they become hero buddies! Fighting crime and all that jazz.
But if you look a little under, you can see the author included aspects of social media and different types of people that exist in the world. Noob crushing, public shaming, hate letters, One Punch Man has got it all. Of course Saitama being Saitama, he just brushes them away like a fly, but it still doesn't change that those sort of people exist. It kind of comments on our society like that.
And seeing as Mad House animated it, I was actually kind of scared to see how it would turn out. Honestly, Tokyo Ghoul didn't exactly have the best animated fight scenes and One Punch Man, which is all about fight scenes, wouldn't really seem like something Mad House would do. But I guess they got extra funding or what with the success of their recent animes, because the fight scenes were pretty good. There were little awkward moments and when the tension needed to be pumped, it was pumped in all the right places. Definitely a move forward for Mad House. I give it a thumbs up.
One Punch Man is a must watch for old and new watchers. It's cynical comedy and action packed animation will definitely make you laugh and impressed. Can't wait for season two!

Diabolik Lovers Season Two. Enough said.
Okay, so maybe it got a bit better at the end. That said, there's still a lot of manhandling and treating the girl as food. I have to say the Murakami brothers are waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Sakamaki brothers at respecting Yui, but for the most part, they still abuse her beyond what's in my comfort zone. I mean, the guys are hot, but please, can we have some sort of romantic storyline? They definitely incorporated more romance into this series since Yui is bounced between the Murakami brothers and the Sakamaki brothers, but every single time there's this really
...
romantic scene where in any normal romance anime they'd kiss, they bite her and she's in pain. Like PLEASE.
The majority of the season is Yui getting accustomed to the Murakami brother and the Murakami's relations with the Sakamaki family. So there's a lot of back plot and the main plot of Yui being Eve and she needs to find an Adam doesn't really move until the very end of the series, making is seem like there's definitely going to be a third season. They threw in a bunch of plot at the end and the series itself ended as a cliffhanger, so I'm calling that third season.
As I said, the Murakami brothers are waaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the Sakamaki brothers with the exception of Subaru (but in the anime he seems much like the other Sakamaki bros and this makes me sad because in the games he's the only one that seems normal). Ruki has some doubts about feeding off Yui, which makes me hope at least that he's humane in some sense. The brothers also have a better relation between them, eating together and hanging out together and what not. They just seem more human and enjoyable as characters rather than six individuals that just abuse the heroine for their own sake.
I just wish they'd put in more romance and less "you are livestock" and "you are the key to making my life better hahaha." I get that this is what the main plot is, but I wish they'd make the guys more like likable guys rather than jerks that are really really really hot. But I have to say it's an improvement on season one just because of the Murakami bros.

The telling of Black Jack before he's the figure we know him as today. And the rare medical anime that you don't see all too often.
I'm a pretty big fan of Tezuka Osamu's original Black Jack series, so I was pretty happy to find out this spin-off series even existed (Sadly the manga isn't translated, but it exists). The storyline follows the same layout as Black Jack, a bunch of short stories where Hazama Kuroo does his little medical magic for one reason or another and there is conflict. It's much darker and in depth than the original Black Jack since it took place
...
in such a controversial time period, introducing a bunch of historical points in Japan and the world's history, like the Vietnam War and the Civil Right's movement of America (dang, even as a medical student, Black Jack just can't seem to sit still). This series is a bit more realistic in the medical sense since this is written in the 2010s while Black Jack is ancient, so it's nice to see that the environment is actually sterile this time around. It's also nice to see how they incorporated Hyakkimaru, another work by Tezuka Osamu) into the series to draw parallels.
I didn't really have a problem with it, but apparently the art style was a big deal to some Black Jack/ Osamu fans. The anime sports a more bishounen yaoi-esque look with Hazama being this really fit handsome young man. I mean, Black Jack is meant to be really handsome save for that big patchwork on his face, so I really didn't have a problem with it. Rather I actually liked it better than Osamu's round and comedy-like artwork. I think the art style for Young Black Jack fit the mood better and made it a tad bit more series where it needed to be (no hate please. I like Osamu's art too).
It's a tad bit overdramatic in places here and there, but it's nice to see how the prodigal student of Honma Joutarou fell into the darkness of becoming Black Jack. It really goes to show that sometimes the world is so screwed up that the people who care most are forced to enter the darkness because of their kindness. And with Black Jack's skill, you just work magic all day everyday.

Prepare for a hurting in your brain.
"Subete fa F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider" is heavy with philosophical concepts about LIFE, so if you don't like that kind of stuff, stay away from it. I mean, you could watch it for the mystery (which is also very intriguing mind you) but it's biggest theme is on the meaning of freedom so pick and chose.
The mystery itself is very well done. It spends a good bulk of the series trying to figure out how the mystery was completed as well as the why. It was kind of frustrating though when Saikawa says he's found out
...
the mystery half way through the series but doesn't tell you since you are on the same side as Nishinosono, who's trying to figure out the mystery for herself (but never does and the solution ends up getting explained by Saikawa in the second to last episode anyway). Each episodes does a good job in setting up for the next one, and curiosity will get the better of you and force you to watch the whole series just to figure out how this act was committed.
If you like philosophy, the series is also a good watch. The characters are thoughtful characters (Well two of them are) who think about the meaning of a lot of things. You also get a good look at the thought process of Magata Shiki, who is the main focus of the series. I actually still can't decide whether Magata is delusional or a genius, but she certainly as an interesting way at viewing life. Saikawa is the more down to earth version of Magata who makes Magata's thought process a bit easier to understand. All in all, her view of the world and on life and death is kind of insane but also makes a sort of sense. I can see where she came from even if it's completely insane in your head. I wish I could voice the sentiment a bit more eloquently but I don't think I can so I recommend you watch the anime and come up with your own answer and opinion about Magata Shiki.
It was a great watch and each episode got me wanting more. The story isn't cliche at all despite the mystery being the great "locked room" case. I mean, my brain hurt a bit trying to organize and process all the information into my head, but all in all, it was a great series! You just have to think a lot while watching it. Heh.

Trippy Time Travel anime? Sign me up!
Kind of embarrassed to say I didn't watch this anime when it was the hype but I can see why it was a hype way back when I was in middle school? I don't even remember. So there are plenty of stuff about time travel, the biggest right now being Dr. Who (which I don't watch but a lot of my friends do), and I think the anime accurately describes the consequences of time travel. Obviously there's a lot of made up stuff/ theoretical but hasn't been proven stuff about time travel, but it was convincing to watch as
...
a part of the story. Science buffs might disagree with me though.
It's not everyday you see an anime as well-written as this one. The way the characters were written and the way they showed their emotions was somewhat connectable but at the same time ridiculous since Okabe Rintarou and his gang aren't exactly the norm. However, I thought the way the friends interacted with each other was pretty accurate as to how we, or I at the least, interact with my close group of buddies, even if I'm not building a time machine.
Okabe Rintarou as a character is also pretty appealing as a protagonist. He's flashy and crazy and somewhat delusional, but also true to heart and dedicated. I mean come one, how many crazy (but also not very crazy) virgin scientist main characters are there? He's an interesting guy that provides comic relief to the more serious sides of the story but also get's you rooting for the happy end.
Redeeming qualities of the show? The well-written story and Okabe Rintarou. If you follow voice actors like I do, you might get a bit tripped up because all you hear is Tamaki Suoh's voice during the crazy times and Light Yagami's voice during the serious times, but it definitely shows Mamoru Miyano is a talented guy. I'd definitely recommend this to the people who like Sci-Fi and realistic anime better than say, fantasy? It might get a little hard to understand and confusing at times, but it'd definitely worth the watch!

I wish they would try to pick one way or another and not try to get the best of both worlds.
The anime starts out as a slice of life, a club wanting to build a giant robot. Okay, fair. That in itself could be a very interesting anime. Did you really need to include the part where they save the world too? Like if you wanted to do a mech, do a mech anime from the get go. If you wanted to do a slice of life, do a slice of life. I really enjoyed the beginning half of the anime where it was actually
...
a slice of life mixed in with a little mystery. Then it just started to tumble downhill...
The art is good. This anime takes place in the same universe as Steins;Gate, so you don't need to worry about the animation and art being bad. I thought the color scheme was pretty and the designs for the robots are sweet.
The characters are flat all except the main character. The rest of the cast has close to no character development save for the fact that one of the characters gets over her fear of robots. The protagonist, however, has loads of character development. What can you expect? He pilots a giant robot.
Overall, I think the didn't need all the build up to a big mech anime fight scene. I would've liked the show more if there wasn't hocus pocus robot fighting stuff. (Might be biased on this since I hate the generic mech genre). Building robots is cool. Fighting by controlling them even better. I'm a bit against the piloting stuff though. Such a shame. I really liked the first half.
