"Much like Death Note, a 25 episodes series in the eyes of any reasonable anime watcher, it is likely that this anime will end up crashing after a while. Until that, sit back and enjoy." Being right sucks.
In the current anime medium, using mechas is a surefire way to make people compare your series to Evangelion. Heck, the producers of Darling in the Franxx made sure to connect their series to Evangelion to generate hype and interest. Boy, it backfired.
From death threats to dedicated trolls, this series was constantly plagued by a level of hate even SAO started to envy. I wasn't so invested
...
in anime when SAO came out but I expect that a lot of people felt like I fell now - completely lost and confused about the burning hate some people have for a simple series.
Darling in the Franxx ended up being a cultural phenomenon more than anything, reminding us once again that every community has an overwhelming amount of toxic
Now that I finished this rant, I want to start this review by saying that Darling in the Franxx is NOT like Evangelion. Both series use symbolism to convey some pseudo-intellectual philosophy, the hedgehog dilemma - how we end up hurting people closest to us - in Evangelion and some very pure (or actually immature) view of romance in Darling in the Franxx. I fail to see how the series are similar, but hey, what do I know.
The series is primarily a coming of age story following a group of teens going through puberty, putting up with temperament changes and overall enjoying their youth - with a twist. In this post-apocalyptic world, they're child soldiers protecting "the adults" and an evasive "Papa" that acts as a god/father figure. They're given little to no backstory as characters because, shockingly, they have none. Turns out you don't put too much effort in the childhood of someone brought up to be child soldier. Nevertheless, the cast leads, Hiro (a play on hero) and Zero Two ( a play on o ni - demon) are given a pretty satisfactory backstory that is indeed very cliche.
The first part of the series is extremely childish. It's full of sex jokes and sexual innuendo - something that goes completely over the children's heads, everything seems happy and there's a light aura of mystery which slowly reveals the actual brutality of the plot. A lot of people started judging the series here, complaining about fan service and saying that the series is a steaming pile of manure. I believe they failed to understand that all this was done on purpose, the aim of this introduction being to show that they're oblivious children with no idea about the world.
A lot of hate, and by a lot I mean an incomprehensible amount (just check the forums), was generated because of the way the mechas (dubbed Franxx) are piloted. Male-female pairs called stamen and pistil (a play on flower sex organs) sitting in a position similar to the sex move "doggystyle". Now I have no god damn clue why someone thought it's a good idea, but I must agree it was pretty funny. Unfortunately, many people took this to mean that it symbolises sex and that riding with a different partner is basically cheating. Many people were outraged and the anime started getting called "Cuck in the Franxx". I'm honestly sad for everyone involved in this idiocy, but I guess it is their way to come to terms with their own sex lives *cough* *cough*. Anyway...
The worldbuilding, in the beginning, is AMAZING, Mother's Basement explained how it is a great example of the "show, don't tell" style of narration, that is letting the viewer figure out what happened in the world instead of spoonfeeding them information. This was abandoned in episode 20 when they decided to just set the series on fire and watch it burn.
Up until a certain point, Darling in the Franxx was great but, similarly to the original Fullmetal Alchemist, whoever wrote the series decided to take a very, very odd turn for its end, completely ruining the enjoyment of anyone watching.
The last episode was one of the worst things I watched recently and it left me questioning if I actually enjoyed the series. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it as a whole and it pains me that so many people mindlessly hate it.

Typically, a show scored under 7 is garbage. Therefore, it is surprising that this is getting such a poor score.
Don't get me wrong, it's not groundbreaking anime but I saw many shows over 7.5 that are definitely worse than this one. I feel like the MAL score is slowly becoming irrelevant.
I typically can't handle shoujo anime (the pace is so slow, I feel like dying) but there's just enough mystery in the story to keep you interested. The character interactions are indeed awkward and cringey but considering the setting it makes perfect sense.
From the setup, it looks like it's supposed to be a drama more
...
than a rom-com but it has comedic elements. It's a little bit odd that it portrays any other male character (other than the mc and his friend) as being complete assholes, but it doesn't affect your enjoyment.
It's worth giving a try.

*Somewhere in the Discovery Chanel HQ*
D:"Quick guys, we're running out of ideas, does anyone have anything?"
A:"Alien stuff? Dunno"
D:"We're not the History Channel for pete's sake... Anyone else? Joe?"
Joe:"You know how 'Animal face-off' was a pretty nice show, right"
D:"Hmm yeah, that's actually not a bad idea, a new season would be -"
Joe:"How about this time is animated and with scarcely clothed hot chicks!"
D:"..."
Joe:"And in order to appeal to the youth we should have highschool girls..."
...
D:"... Joe..."
Joe:"And... and -"
D:"Joe this is it, you're fired"
Joe:"What, why"
D:"Leave now or I'll call security"
Joe:"But wait -"
D:"SECURITY"
Later on, Joe made his own anime studio and thus decided to get back at his old boss...
Killing Bites is at the crossroad between abomination and a decent show. I was surprised the show is actually enjoyable even if it mostly consists of ecchi that can only appeal to 12-year-olds without internet.
I assume they'll just attempt to add a "story" to the mindless violence this show is and manage to ruin it (something that'll be preeetty impressive considering it's already bordering train wreck).

So, the first (wrong) thing this show did was to overestimate the capacity of people to make the difference between Mahō(魔法) - Magic and Majutsu(魔術) - Sorcery. While they are kind of synonyms they have the same difference as normal Alchemy and Alchemy with a Philosopher's Stone. The top review of this series makes this (retarded in my opinion) mistake and makes a lot of comments on the fact that the series is stupid because "how could witches exist before magic if magic was invented by a witch only recently" (Jaden Smith anyone? No?). Well, it is stated, SEVERAL TIMES, that they used sorcery, not
...
magic. Damn, the white tiger (I'm bad with names) even says: "This magic is very convenient because until now you had to draw circles and make sacrifices". Also,(this is not a spoiler) regarding Zero's ability to negate magic, (now this is a spoiler) SHE GODDAMN SAYS she made mistakes in the Grimoire on purpose in order to be able to be stronger than any other magic user.
Anyway, I felt the need to clear that up. Now the review:
Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho (Grimoire of Zero) is a fantasy anime. It's set in a world where a civil war between witches and normal humans has created countless victims and it's currently destroying the nation. The series is centered on Zero, a young witch that revolutionized witchcraft by giving birth to magic and Mercenary, a beastfallen (humans with the appearance and strength of animals), and it follows their adventures to find (the stolen) Zero's Grimoire that holds the secrets to magic.
The series is sweet, short, and the only complaint I have is that they seemed to go out of their way to produce a loli-ish character (must find a way to appeal to those otakus, amiright?) when the girl needs to be over 15 for the story to make sense. The art isn't amazing but I'm more of a story guy so it didn't impact my enjoyment too much. The sound though, it's lacking. A good soundtrack would've made this anime A LOT better.
All in all, Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho is in no way an innovative, never-seen-before anime. The whole fantasy setting has been done so many times it's almost impossible to come up with something new. But who cares? Do you never eat the same food twice? I like binge watching fantasy anime with an accent on magic and I feel like this hit the right spot. It doesn't even need a second season, it's fine as it is! If you like magic and fantasy, this anime is a nice thing to watch.

Typically I can't even decide if I'll like an anime after just 4 episodes but this time I NEED to write this review in order to persuade people into watching this.
So, first time I saw this I was convinced it's some kind of copy of "Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?". They're both basically about the same thing (slice of life in a video game club) but their execution is way different.
This anime basically completes netoge in some areas and it seems to explore the social aspect of video game geeks. At the same time, it seems to be a manifesto for
...
playing games the fun way. Nowadays, with the popularization of eSports a lot of people have started to play games in a competitive manner that, in my and apparently this anime's opinion, spoils the fun.
I'm a sucker for good romcoms that don't have a linear, boring boy-meets-girl-they-fall-in-love-funny-stuff-happens, and this seems to hit the right spot. It's kinda underrated in my opinion, but it can be argued that this anime formula is already overused. Still, I believe it's worth your time.
DEFINITELY give this a try.

Erased started as an outstanding anime.Everyone was super-hyped and many were calling it their favorite. Despite ranking 5th with a score of 9.14 at episode 4, it failed to meet its own high expectations.
-Story 7-
The story focuses on a guy in his late 20's with no friends or girlfriend, a dead-end job and a dream to become a mangaka. However he has a special gift: he's able to travel back in time 3 to 5 minutes in order to prevent the death of some people. A certain crime is able to trigger this power and he finds himself back in 6th grade
...
in 1988 with a mission: to find and stop the criminal that is connected to the crime. After this amazing introduction it fucks up.Big time. The first big mistake is the timeline : it is hinted and showed that he previously was in 2006, which makes for 18 yrs of time travelling. I was expecting him to be 11, but he's 13.Later on he comes back to the future through a coma and he's 25 yrs old.In 2010... What is more his once 17 yrs old coworker (in the first timeline ) seems to have the same age. 'Cause fuck logic. Apart from this excellent interpretation of time , the only plot twist it has is painfully obvious. The only other thing the killer could have done was to turn himself in.
-Art 8-
Nothing outstanding, it seemed fairly plain but you easily get used to it. One thing bothered me though. Two women(his mother and the heroine's mother) have unreasonably big lips for no frickin reason.
-Sound 9-
While not impressive, the soundtrack fits the story and the overall feel of the show. It improves the quality and makes the scenes even more feely.
-Character 7-
The character development is outstanding. Everyone is well defined, their behavior is explained and you get the feeling that everything is good.... up to like episode 8. From here on, everyone is plain , lacks development and they are there only 'cause reasons. This was so retarded, it literally provoked me pain. I don't know what happened but it has probably the same reason as for the inconsistency of the time line. Because fuck the watcher, that's why.
-Enjoyment 7-
At the beginning I was thrilled and overwhelmed with hype but I barely got myself to watch the ending, which on top of being retarded was also super rushed.
-Overall 8(7.5)-
Despite its flaws the anime is still enjoyable. It performs well in presenting human behavior and it shows how small pleasantries may make life better for certain people. The story is sad though(with an ending that seems happy) so prepare to shed a tear or two if you're sensitive.

You may have been led to believe that Overlord is similar to Sword Art Online.Well,it isn't. At all. Calling them similar is like saying that a cat and a dog are similar because they are both pets. It's actually closer to One Punch Man than SAO. So now that we clarified this let's break it down in categories.
-Story 7-
The idea of the anime is very good but the anime lacks closure. You get the feeling that the anime is ~52 episodes long but actually it's actually a quarter of that. It starts with the MC who's Magic Caster Skeleton in the once popular DMMORPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer
...
Online Role Playing Game) "Yggdrasil" (What's up with Japan and European Mythology?) admiring the Guild House of the greatest faction in the game, acting on his role of Guild Master until the servers will finally close. Surprisingly (not really) after the timer hit 00:00 the game interface disappeared and he was no longer able to bring up the console. Stuck in this world he now tries to make a name of himself in search for any old allies. It should be noted that his Guild House is no longer in the game but in a whole new world he has to learn about.
-Art 9-
The animation is outstanding with beautiful landscapes, the battles are great and all the characters are well defined...well all "main" characters. You can somewhat see what characters are important by looking at how distinguishable they are. This is why the Art can't get a perfect score.
-Sound 7-
The sound is nice, the voice actors are good and so on but there's nothing memorable. I binge watched all 13 episodes back to back but I can't remember the intro or the outro. They were pretty plain and uninteresting but good enough to be worth at least a 7.
-Character 7-
I saw a lot of reviews and recommendations that state the MC is overpowered. Well he is not overpowered at all. The reason he is strong is simply stated in the first episode : He was max level and had God Level items. In addition the NPC's that guarded the guild (and are now alive) are pretty close to his strength. Anyway the one problem with the characters is the fact that there is little to no character development. All the characters are slapped in the viewer's face with almost no background story. The (now ex) NPCs were created by the MC ex-colleagues and act on the personality they were given. The rest of the characters have a slight trace of background story since they mention a few things about them.
-Enjoyment 9-
I liked watching it since I like stories that are set in the middle ages and include magic and a lot of fighting. The problem is nothing major really happens and there were episodes where boredom was the defining word.
-Overall 8-ish-
I believe it is a score fit for this anime since it manages to make you watch it then leave you deserted because there's no 14th episode even if anime like One Piece has millions of episodes without ever completing the fucking story either. If there's no season 2 , the producers deserve to burn in hell.

So the first few times I saw this anime in the form of a few screenshots with jokes on a humour site I frequent I said to myself "This is stupid, this is exactly the reason people call anime watchers weebs..." and ignored it. But boy I was so wrong.
This is a piece of art when it comes to comedy. I truly am unable to remember when I laughed so much while watching an anime or a TV series.
Anyway now let's break it down in categories.
-Story: 8-
The story of this is well...just good. The action takes part 16 years after almost any trace of pornography
...
is destroyed and it became illegal to use any bad words. In schools kids were taught to be totally sexually oblivious until Blue Snow , a female terrorist destroys the peace.
-Art: 10-
I'm not exactly an artist so I can just say the art is extremely good, just like in most animes in the last 2 years.
-Sound: 10-
The sound fx in this anime is worth more than 10.It is hilariously good. From the theme songs that are just as funny as the jokes in the anime to the verbal puns that make you die of laughter.
-Character: 9-
Well all the characters seem pretty well designed and all add to the hilarity either with their obliviousness to sexual matters or their exaggerated passion for them.
-Enjoyment: 9-
I can say that I really loved it and I am thankful I watched it.
-Overall: 9-
As long as you look at it from a strictly comedic point of view you can say this truly deserves its score.

So I read the manga for a while, liked it a little(works for when you're bored) so I decide to look up the anime. Worst decision in my anime-watching career.
Not only this anime is utter shit , it's an insult to your eyes and ears.
-Story line-
It follows the story line of the manga, which is probably the only good thing in it.
-Art-
The art is mediocre.
-Sound-
This is the second most retarded part of this anime. All sound effects are horrible and impressively unrealistic. Why the fuck would a vampire say anything even close to "tchoo" when sucking blood. WHY? A lot of retarded moaning (legs are
...
a really erogenous zone apparently) and downright shitty voice acting.
-Character-
Boy,here we have it : The stupidest part in this horrible shit. The manga characters aren't exactly great but they are ok because they don't talk and you can imagine everything slightly different. In the anime though , they're dumbed down to impressive levels! It's like they are made this way precisely for you to hate them easily. They are an insult to everything in this god damn universe.
-Enjoyment-
Enjoyment? What enjoyment? I am 100% sure I would enjoy getting kicked in the balls more than this.
This anime was so fucking bad, I can no longer continue reading the manga. So whatever you do, never watch this shit.

When I first saw this anime as a recommendation I thought "Why not?".
Indeed it was pretty good but I can't say it was incredible.
-Story : 8-
The story was very good, without gaps or illogical plots but for the first part it felt like they were trying to slow it down too much. After this the second part went into full rush and it ended way too soon.It left me with a lot of questions that I hope will be answered in the two movies.
-Art : 7-
While the environment and other parts of the art were indeed great the characters looked like some plain old monkeys. Saki
...
always seemed that she is that female monkey that helps the main character in the movie The Planet of the apes.Indeed the bodies of the characters looked pretty life-like but their faces...plain creepy.
-Sound : 10-
The sound was incredible, the voices were always great and they felt realistic for the most part. You could really see the emotions in their voice and both the intro and outro songs seemed great to me.
-Character : 9-
The characters were all well-defined, their behavior was normal and there were no moments in which a character develops illogically fast ,a problem that's pretty normal for anime(We're looking at you Bleach).
-Enjoyment : 8-
I can't say it really glued me to the screen but it kept me interested until the end so I'd say I enjoyed it.
-Overall : 8-
It's definitely a good anime and it's definitely a must-watch especially if you like mystery/survival game types.
