"Nee Nana.."
Only two words but it brings so much emotions.. I still feel uncomfortable after hearing it and I have that bittersweet feeling running down the spine.
I actually was reluctant to watch this anime.
I tried reading the manga once before and I had a hard time dealing with the art (and I know it's dumb because art shouldn't matter if there's a good story behind it..). So I just stopped reading it. I might be weird or something but I'm the kind of person who loves crying in front of a sad anime. So... Four years after that I was talking with a good
...
friend of mine asking her if she had any good recommendation for heart-breaking animes, and she told me "Watch Nana". I decided to give it a try...
Art: 6/10
So what struck me the most was of course the art. Since it was one of the reason I stopped reading the manga it was kinda hard to go back at it. I wasn't a fan of these long legs, tall and thin characters. It was way too different from what I was used to watch.
In the meantime I grew up and decided to just ignore these few things I didn't like and focus on the other aspects of the anime.
Story: 8/10
I guess you can read the synopsis by yourself, the story itself was good. I don't know what to say about it. It was a "slice of life" type where you follow the life of two girls. Don't kill me for what I'm going to say but there's nothing that exciting except the fact that one of them is a singer for a punk band. There's the usual friendship and love drama. Saying it this way might be a little bit depreciating but the way it is written and depicted through the entire anime is so damn good. I've never watched a series that had such a serious tone/mood and that was being so poetic (Yes I'm talking here about the parts at the beginning or ending of each episode with the famous "Nee.. Nana..." and yes this were my favorite moments)
Characters: 10/10
The characters are perfect, every single one of them has a background story, no one was left behind. The two main characters are sooo different and yet they suit each other so much. I sincerely could say that even though both Nana are the main characters, the other characters are as much important as them. They aren't here just to "fill" episodes with side stories and then disappear, they are intertwined with each other in specific relationships and that shows how much effort has been put in each character to make it unique.
Sound: 10/10
I mean c'mon, I have no idea what people think about the soundtrack but can you really not enjoy it? I was more a fan of Trapnest songs (which are pretty calm compared to Black Stones).
But there's definitely one song that surpassed all of them and it's "Kuroi Namida" . I still remember the last word of the last episode with this song in the background and... dem feels... ;___;
Enjoyment: 10/10
I literally watched this anime in one week, every evening I watched a much as I could before sleeping and I did not regret. I cried way too much (so if you feel a bit depressed, please wait a little before watching this haha, might not be good for your poor little heart).
Overall: 10/10
I don't really know how to convince you it's really hard to express my feelings towards Nana but it's definitely one of this anime that you'll remember.
If you have some time to spare.. 47 episodes isn't that long and I promise you'll really enjoy it.
