(Spoilers Ahead)
Hazurewaku no "Joutai Ijou Skill" de Saikyou ni Natta Ore ga Subete wo Juurin suru made – or Failure Frame for short – is an anime I watched after losing a punishment game among my anime group of friends. Needless to say, I didn’t go in with high expectations, and the show delivered exactly what I was expecting.
Story: 4/10
Yes, this is your typical isekai. The entire classroom is transported to another world after being summoned by the Megami-sama, who declares that they are heroes. However, our protagonist, Touka (who I had to look up the name), is a kind-hearted guy who, for some reason,
...
gets thrown into a dungeon filled with high-level monsters because he supposedly lacks any useful abilities. (Of course, this turns out to be false.)
The Megami-sama and the rest of the classmates, who all come off as dickheads (and that’s putting it mildly), mock Touka for having “useless” abilities. After falling into the dungeon and nearly being killed, Touka discovers that he actually possesses an overpowered ability capable of paralyzing, putting to sleep, poisoning, and even berserking enemies. After overcoming the dungeon’s challenges and defeating the boss (who looks horrendous btw), Touka transforms into a brooding, vengeful character seeking revenge on the Megami-sama.
The problem is that this trope is painfully overused. It feels like I’ve seen it in Shield Hero and even Arifureta (though I haven’t watched that one, but I know the general premise). It’s not new or refreshing. I’ll give credit to Touka for not being your typical generic MC, but that’s about as far as it goes. While the story itself feels familiar, it still managed to grab my attention at times, even being more immersive than some other shows I was watching that season, like Shoushimin Series and Atri. At least it’s a relatively easy watch that doesn’t require much mental effort, much like most isekai. There’s no real tension because Touka has OP powers that can defeat the strongest human being in this world with ease. The one thing (out of many) that really irritated me was the ending. Episode 12 feels like a cliffhanger, essentially telling you to read the light novels. I know this is a common practice in anime, but it really kills the overall sense of completion.
Characters: 3/10
As mentioned, Touka isn’t your typical MC, but he still ends up becoming a stereotypical edgelord out for revenge, which doesn't do enough to elevate him as a compelling protagonist. The main heroine, Seras, serves as the love interest and the only one. While this technically makes it not a harem, which is a nice change of pace (or is it?), it doesn’t make her any more interesting. She’s just... there.
What the show does manage to do well is create a truly hateable main villain, which is mostly thanks to Koshimizu Ami’s voice acting. The annoying classmates, however, are nothing more than a cliché bully trope, serving as background characters for the MC to eventually dispose of. I haven’t read the light novels, but based on the anime alone, they’re far from well-written.
Art: 2/10
The 3D animation is terrible. The 2D animation is passable, maybe a 4/10 at best, but the CG is atrocious. One of the worst I’ve seen in recent years. It’s used excessively during the MC’s battles with the enemies, and it looks cheap and poorly executed. Every time it appeared on screen, it felt jarring and unpleasant.
Sound: 3/10
Honestly, I don’t remember much of the sound design. I skipped most of the OP and ED. The sound effects for the monsters were often irritating and did little to enhance the atmosphere.
Enjoyment: 4/10
While this show has its fair share of flaws, it still managed to keep my attention at times. I did find it more enjoyable than Iseleve, the previous punishment anime I had to endure. Still a 4/10, can't give higher than that.
Overall: 4/10
I’m not being overly harsh on this show (I typically give these types of anime around a 2 or 3), but I truly hope the anime industry moves away from producing the same repetitive isekais with similar plots and OP MCs. This formula has been overdone for nearly a decade now, and it’s time for the industry to evolve and take more creative risks.

"Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai wo mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei wo Kaeta"
My god, that's a long hell of a title. Please make it shorter.
Embarking on the prevalent trend of isekai anime, "Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai wo mo Musou Suru: Level Up wa Jinsei wo Kaeta" (or "Iseleve" for short) raises red flags from its lengthy title alone. Despite my deliberate avoidance of such shows, I found myself compelled to watch it as a result of a game loss punishment.
Story 1/10
Simply put, It's shit. I'm not
...
gonna go through the details.
The story follows the formula of an unattractive protagonist who is incessantly bullied, only to transform into an OP individual who effortlessly attracts the hottest girls both in the real and isekai worlds. While harem anime is nothing new, Iseleve manages to embody some of the worst aspects of the genre.
The show's reliance on shallow female characters who fawn over the protagonist solely due to his newfound handsomeness is incredibly frustrating. The main girl's claim of recognising his "inner quality" feels implausible, as it's unlikely she would have invited him to her school if he looked the same.
The only unique aspect of this show is the protagonist's ability to switch between the real world and the isekai. However, this novelty quickly fades as every character, regardless of gender, responds in the same worshipful manner to the supposedly remarkable protagonist.
Art & Characters 4/10
Perhaps the only slightly redeeming factor is the visual presentation. On paper, the character designs appear decent, although the lack of depth in their personalities undermines their appeal. The protagonist resembles a generic "Kirito-kun" type (Yes, it's voiced by the same voice actor - our friend Matsuoka). Initially, the animation seems acceptable, but it quickly falters during action sequences. Most notably, the show resorts to subpar 3D CGI and skips important scenes, resulting in a disjointed and unsatisfying viewing experience. The directing choices are also questionable, with scenes that linger excessively on scenery while the characters talk in the background.
Sound 3/10
The soundtrack fails to leave a lasting impression, as both OP and ED are forgettable. Skipped them after a few episodes.
Enjoyment 2/10
Iseleve proved to be a consistently frustrating experience, making me swear every episode. The lack of coherence in the narrative is perplexing. Why do the classmates show no surprise when MC effortlessly subdues a bear with his bare hands? Why does the main girl exhibit such calmness upon discovering the isekai world? These are just a couple of examples. Perhaps I should have never questioned - it's a brainless show after all. I refrained from awarding it a 1/10 solely because it managed to hold my attention for more than a minute in each episode.
Overall 2/10
Iseleve is an infuriating, lackluster, and bland show that relies heavily on convenient tropes. I strongly advise against investing your time in this series and suggest going for other shows. The initial rating of 7.50 in MAL after the first episode serves as a reminder that visual appeal often overshadows deeper flaws.

In terms of being a fan service anime, honestly I think this was a massive disappointment. Heck, Sono Bisque Doll (My Dress-up Darling) from the same season is substantially better as a fan service anime, albeit having no seggs.
I really don't understand what this anime was trying to achieve. It was trying too hard in the worldbuilding department while showing non-stop seggs every single episode. As a result, it failed to deliver neither successful plot nor satisfying lenny faces.
Story 4/10
I'm gonna be honest here - it did somehow manage to make me a bit intrigued at first - which didn't last long.
...
Story involving Mizuhara Reito was boring af. This mf refused to have seggs for some genuinely stupid reasons when he is literally one of the very few living men on earth. Instead, he tries to uncover the 'secret' of MK virus/UW and... guess what, the anime ended before he could try anything.
Meanwhile, Doi Shota's evolution from a virign to a chad (literally, not metaphorically) was actually entertaining. Maybe, just maybe, if he was the true MC of this anime, it would have been rated higher.
With 11 episodes only, rushed storyline and inconclusive finale was inevitable. Despite having watched numerous rushed shows and being used to it, I don't intend to give this an exemption.
Art 3/10
Yes. Uncensored nipples. But that's it. No cock. This ain't a hentai. Nowhere near as explicit as those. Low budget and unsatisfying quality. I used to watch tons of fan service anime before and no, this is not really up to standard I'm used to.
Sound 6/10
I was subtly surprised at how the OST fit well in some scenes.
I skipped almost every ED, but OP was cool.
Character 3/10
Fuck Reito.
Doi is the better one. Not enough to undo my score though.
Enjoyment 4/10
Well, it failed as a fan service anime. Did I enjoy the story then? Not really.
Overall 4/10
Don't watch it if you are looking for the plot or the "plot."
It's not worth your time.
If you want some fan service, watch My Dress-up Darling. It's miles better. Or maybe To-love Ru from more than a decade ago. I'll guarantee you that's a better choice.
If you want good story, well... I don't think you are here for that, right?

Mediocre: The Anime.
I have to say, despite not having that much expectation prior to starting this anime, it somehow managed to leave even more disappointment, and yes, it's partially my fault.
Studio Silver Link is a well-founded company with numerous mediocre anime albeit some good ones, and yet they somehow have surpassed people's expectations this year with its rather succeessful lineup including the likes of Bofuri, Hamefura and The Misfit of Demon King Academy.
While dropping Bofuri at episode 6 (yes I know this is loved by most people but I just found it extremely boring, and I do not use the world extreme that
...
often), I cannot deny that I enjoyed the other two to some extent so naturally I went in thinking this could be interesting. The ever present director of Silver Link, Oonuma Shin, was indeed involved in three ouf the four I mentioned, as well as some of my favourites like Baka to Test and e.f. series, so that does kind of support my expectation in a way.
Story 5/10
It's nothing special, although I would give some credit for not being an isekai alone. The story feels as if Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet was in a fantasy setting, with a (lot) more generic male lead. It's a standard LN adaptation for the purpose of advertising and boosting LN sales, so the story was guaranteed to be either rushed or incomplete and indeed, it's inconclusive with no hints of a season 2 (yet). The setting was nice (fantasy vs modern warfare) but that was it.
Art 4/10
The factor I care about the most usually, and it was sub-par most of the times. The previous three this year had better character designs. But does this have better action or animation quality in general? Not quite. Silver Link does not even have a reuputation of having good action scenes but I found it even more underwhelming than Maou Gakuin, which was not great either.
Character 6/10
The 907th unit was uninteresting most of the time; arguably Nene could have not been there for the entirety of anime and it would not have affected the storyline so much. Male MC is just another Kirito-kun (even the design) and while the female lead is a lot more attractive, I still prefer the character with the same VA from last season (yes Cheezuru is best girl of 2020, fite me). Her younger sister Sisbell is actually the best girl from this anime despite not having so much screen time, and she single-handedly increased the score by one in this criteria. good girl. Maid girl(Rin) seemed interesting at first due to her resemblance of Hayasaka but she quickly fell off after constantly attacking our MC-kun unfoundedly.
Enjoyment 4/10
I had to half-force myself to watch this every week, and that's a minus. While some parts of the stroy kept me slightly interested, most arcs simply ended up with MC-kun's OP-ness (it's worrying that I can't even remember his name while typing this). I would say it was only marginally better than the likes of Asterisk Wars and Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut.
Overall 5/10
It was close to being a 4 but I thought that would be too harsh in my standards given I did enjoy some bits. It's really not different from the common LN adaptations we see nowadays apart from the fact that it is not an isekai, and the MC is not even remotely OP as Maou Gakuin's Anos (wow, I still remember his name) so it wasn't as enjoyable.
If you love those incompleted LN adaptations with some OP-ness and fancy Amamiya Sora, you should check this out. Otherwise, don't.
