First off I love old school anime, especially mecha anime. Macross (as Robotech) was probably one of the first anime I ever watched. After watching hundreds of shows since I thought it a shame I still hadn't watched such a classic as Gundam so with some free time I finally decided to watch it. Unfortunately my excitement and anticipation soon turned to shock and dismay at just how silly and dumb the plot of this show is, I couldn't believe it. THIS is the show that started a franchise that is still going over 40 years later? I'm dumbfounded. Two things to get out

Oh this show, where to begin. I guess first off this is a very ecchi show, the censored version anyway (which is what Crunchyroll has), uncensored it's pretty much hentai (especially the six specials that came with the Blu-ray release). Like The Testament of Sister New Devil there is a paper thin plot that serves as an excuse to have the MC sexually arouse his harem of team mates so they can "power up" (the scenes of which are so awkward they're actually kind of humerous, or at least I thought so. Arte set in a historically inaccurate Italy during the Renaissance this was about a girl, the titular Arte, wanting to defy societies norms and her family and become an artist. Meh kind of forgettable, like I said not very accurate historically with Arte easily overcoming pretty artificial obstacles and not really having to struggle much, catching break after break to the point even the show had the character feel guilty about how easy she had it. Like most Japanese anime set somewhere else, it played out more as how a modern Japanese girl would defy her traditional family and society to strike out on her

Shaft and Shinbo directing can do no wrong, everything they make is just a cut above the majority of other anime and this show proves it. I just adored this show, it's just a simple SOL show with no real plot about a middle school girl who lives alone after her Grandma dies who has a cousin start staying with her on weekends as they attend a prep school. She is a good cook (learning from her grandmother) but discovers everything tastes better when you can eat it with someone else. And that's it, just these two cooking and eating for 12 episodes occasionally joined
