Entering Bleach Cour 3, I had high expectations, especially after hearing that there would be original anime fights not seen in the manga, including the continuation of the battle where the remaining members of Squad Zero sacrifice themselves so that Senjumaru can use her Bankai. The premise was compelling, as it was explained that any of them using their Bankai together could potentially destroy the world. However, I must admit, Senjumaru's Bankai felt underwhelming as a fight. Given the immense power it was said to possess, the outcome was ultimately deflating, leaving me questioning why it was even included if it was going to end

the way it did.
Similarly, Shunsui’s Bankai felt lackluster. The ability, which revolves around a series of acts meant to instantly defeat an opponent, lacks the dynamic intensity I expected. His sword is never truly used in combat once the Banki was active, as the fight almost ends automatically, with the enemy’s head lobbed off without a swing. While Shunsui is now the new Squad 1 captain, and Nanao is promoted to lieutenant of squad 1, I struggle with the believability of this, especially since Nanao, who has historically been portrayed as one of the weaker characters, has yet to showcase real combat prowess. Her reliance on Hado and inability to wield even an Asauchi effectively raise questions about her suitability for such a high-ranking position.
Furthermore, when Nanao faces Lille Barro, her fear and hesitance—stemming from her lack of battle experience—undermine her role within the Squad. She seems to be more of a liability than an asset, and it feels like she’s been coddled into this position. Even at the crucial moment, Shunsui has to step in to assist her in holding the sword. The resolution of her confrontation with Lille, involving the Ise Clan sword deflecting one attack, didn’t feel as impactful as I’d hoped, though I appreciated Barro's final attack and the backstory that helped explain why Nanao had never wielded a Zanpakutō in previous arcs.
This particular cour felt more focused on character backstories and explanations than on delivering thrilling action. While the fights had some memorable moments, they never quite reached the intensity or excitement of those in Cour 2. Ichigo, too, took a backseat for much of the cour, and his confrontation with Yhwach lacked the same intensity as their previous clash in Cour 2. Overall, while there were some notable moments, this cour didn't quite live up to the high bar set by Cour 2. I’m hopeful that Cour 4 will make a strong comeback and deliver on the action and character development we've been waiting for.
