I'm surprised this manhwa has such a small presence on MAL, when this had a sizable fan base on webtoons. I read this a few years ago and it was one of my first introductions to webtoons and manhwa, prior to that I had only read The Breaker, Tower of God and Bastard. The story had cliche elements, staying mostly original but it was the art that drew me in. It wasn't as detailed as seinen manga but seeing colour was refreshing and made me have a distaste for non-detailed manga, especially how generic shounen mangas are drawn. The characters I cant recall that well,
...
but the MC was good, he was selfish at the beginning but changed throughout. There was also someone other character development + cliche side characters. Like the tsundere semi love interest. The main villain's motive was meh but the final battle between them was very epic.
The manhwa overall is semi-cliche with elements from Wuxia and a bunch of others, but I still enjoyed a lot and I recommend it. 7/10

Did I learn anything from reading this? Yea I learnt that there is a scale of how serious your fetish can be and that is it. Am I a better person now, probably not. So what is the purpose of this manga because it doesn't deal with the seriousness of having a fetish and how it ruins your life. It doesn't deal with how divorce can affect a person. And it doesn't focus heavily on the romance side either. (Atleast it has more romance than any normal shounen). This manga could've dealt with certain themes due to the MC's circumstances but it doesn't. The story
...
is Mediocre, just a guy who stopped making women's shoes years ago and because of a certain school girl, he starts his passion again. Seen this story played out over and over and it ended the way I predicted, at least there was no drama. The art is good and clearly distinguishes itself as a seinen manga. The characters have depth to them despite how short the story is and there is a fair bit of character development.
There is no reason for me to recommend this, but it didn't bore me reading it for some reason.

Would you rather have a shitty life where your abused everyday while the one you love most is happy, or would you rather you live without that life without abuse while the one you love the most, is in a deep state of depression yearning for the love they once had. That was how "A cruel God reigns" opened with Jeremy choosing his mother's happiness over his, either choice, someone is going to end up dead physically or mentally.
Jeremy the main character chooses to protect his mother from spiralling into depression by assuring that her fiancee Greg doesn't break up her. Jeremy has to
...
satisfy his new step fathers homosexual desires which takes a toll on him mentally more from the guilt of betray his mother behind her back then the actual homosexual relationship. The further this affair between Greg and Jeremy goes on, the more psychologically damage he comes which ultimately affects his relationships and how he interacts with others.
Jeremy as a character, was not a disappointment, he was trapped but never become a victim of Stockholm syndrome as many other shoujo magizines incorporate when writing about an abusive sadistic relationship. However, Jeremy's mother is probably the worst character in this entire serialisation. She is a wining selfish bitch, and I didn't even think I could hate her even more until *plot twist*. Despite Jeremy's mother and a few other easy to hate characters, the characters are well written.
The art is was a bit above standard for its time period until less effort went into it as the series went on. Probably because the author got lazy.
Overall its a great story that drags on too long, seriously, just read to chapter 55 as intended as it just drags on and becomes an actual yaoi.

Art 8/10
Plain, old, basically classic gageki. Deliberately done in an old fashion style to evoke a feeling of antiquity.
Story 8/10
Just a biography of the life of Tatsumi and the hurdles he went through in developing a new style of manga.
Characters 8/10
These are real people. Although an interesting choice by the author to rename himself and his family as characters, I believe his intention is to create a manga persona and not focus much on his family situation, which was portrayed as bad a the time but somehow fixed itself overtime.
Enjoyment 5/10
Pretty boring at most of the time. The only thing keeping me reading this,
...
is the fact that im reading this for 2019 manga challenge as well as the importance of Tatsumi as an author.
Overall 7/10
Only recommend if you are interested in Tatsumi's work or what he did for manga and seinen in general. If you want to read a gekiga manga, there are better ones out there.
The first third of the manga is all about Tatsumi's early life, before he became a professional manga artist. Drawing 4 pannels with his brother and submitting them to amateur reader's contests for his favourite serialisations, winning amateur awards. This act is all about how the setbacks he experienced, as well as the motivation and demotivation from his family, mostly his brother, and how it would alter attitude towards his manga hobby.
Hiroshi constantly expresses throughout the middle of the manga in the his distaste for the protrayal of the 50s era of manga which reflects Tatsumi's own beliefs about manga at the time.
Tatsumi didn't like the connations of manga being 4-pannel comics due to the populatisation of this style. His rejection can be seen in one scene where he asked of the removal of the world manga from the Shadow monthly publications. Often looking to inspiration from movies,
Hiroshi would incorperate film techniques into his manga and built a strong toolbox of techniques he would later use to create his own genre. Hiroshi hated the limitations of manga, not being able to be written in real time like movies, he wanted change
believing that someone would create a new style of manga, foreshadowing the creation of Gekiga genre.
Tatsumi was experimental with his mangas that werent mangas as depicted in Horoshi. The techniques he incorarporated would influence other award winning manga authors. Tatsumi importance to seinen as a genre cannot be stress, yes his biggest influence was on Osamu Tezuka with his later works of A message to adolf and Pheonix having elements of gekiga but his probally most important influence was Naoki Urasawa who wrote the three master pieces of seinen manga, Pluto (co written with Tezuka), Monster, and 20th Century Boys.
However, another key aspect conveyed is this manga, is that Tatsumi was also influence by different manga authors and mediums. According to the manga, Hiroshi wanted to distinguish his manga from children manga so he used the word gekiga in one of his titles, and thats how the term was coined.
The ending.
Tatsumi basically forms a gekiga workshop group, gets sick of it and loses all motivation. Then the ending is Tatsumi/Hiroshi having an epiphany that he will never give up on gekiga and that is where the story ends. There is an epilogue after the great Osamu Tezuka dies and where Tatsumi is now.

There is this scene where he hid his 19 year old version of his girlfriend in the bathroom, while fucking his girlfriend, and just thinking about the 19 year old in the bathroom makes him cum, he pulls out and the 19 year old opens the door to get
...

Imagine almost getting raped by a guy, and then going back to him to almost get raped again, and then go back to him to almost get raped again. That is what it feels like reading this manga because that is basically what the story is about.
Story 5
The story is nothing special just your classic mediocre story about a rich boy bullying of poor girl because she embarrassed him, with the added sex scenes/molesting scenes because this is a smut manga. (spoiler alert) They end up of falling in love, as predicted. Despite them being in relationship, the girl almost gets raped by the same
...
guy 5 times because this guy doesn't like the fact that a she is ruining her boyfriend's family pride and reputation. The master slave relationship between the two MCs because of the "honey" system, is a complete joke, they might as well made this into a bdsm manga since the mc doesn't mind getting raped. That is another problem that isn't just in this manga but other manga as well, the fact that rape isn't treated seriously. The last 10 chapters are a train wreck,
Art 6
Decent, classic shoujo art style, nothing special about this.
Characters 4
Female MC is an idiot, who the fuck trusts the same guy after he almost tried to rape you 3 times. Almost rape me thrice, shame on you, almost rape me a 4th time, sorry that was my boyfriend's fault since I wanted to buy him a gift and I needed the money.
Male MC, nothing special about him, practically can replace him with any other rich semi sadistic guy from any other smut shoujo manga.
Enjoyment 6
Despite it flaws, I didn't find myself bored reading the first 33 chapters of the manga since this isn't a rom com shoujo that goes on for 10 years without any romance. I wanted to read a romance shoujo/semi drama, and I got what I wanted, even if the characters are retarded asf. However, this manga should've ended around 33 chapters, since the last 10 are just bad since it was boring and felt rushed, although the ending was good enough. Clearly this manga was getting axed.
Overall 5
Do I recommend this manga, no I don't , only recommend reading the first few chapters and then reading the last chapter, save yourself the trouble of all the shit in between. Also recommend if your into those kinds of a rich boy abuses poor girl manga or master/slave mangas.

*disclaimer the following review contains words that may be considered inappropriate*
About the author
If your unfamiliar with the work of Masahiro Itosugi then you are surely uncultured. She/he is the brilliant mind behind uwakoi, a story of a young adolescent boy who smashes every girl he meets until he dies, and the other masterpiece aki-sora, a story of a young adolescent boy who smashes every girl he meets including his sisters. If your wondering why doesn't the author just draw hentai then instead of writing these lewd stories, well the author does draw hentai. However, Itosugi writes these borderline hentai stories, because the main focus
...
is on the story and the characters itself unlike hentai, which focuses on the "actions" of characters.
What to expect about the manga
You do not need to read this one shot because the synopsis is word for word the entire chapter. Like most of Itosugi's work, this one is also borderline hentai. This is why we need a mature tag because mangas like this diminish the seinen reputation. You might not see the male genitalia in Itosugi's mangas, but you sure see the cum.
Story 10
Honestly, this story is a 10, very relatable having chicks come up to you asking for you to model naked for them and then they proceed to give you a hand job. I've never seen any hentai or ecchi manga where the mc is a pushover and the women around him taking advantage of that. Absolute genius of Itosugi to think of this concept.
Art 6
This art is better than most hentais today. However, not much detail was put into the cum. This isn't suppose to be second rate hentai. There should be more detail in all aspects of this one-shot.
Characters 1
Usually Itosugi's characters are perceived as one dimensional lustful teenagers, but usually as the story goes on they have more depth to them. Believe or not Itosugi is an actual god at making you attached to these characters or completely hating them. We are working with only one chapter here and these characters can replaced by any other character from Itosugi's mangas and it will still be the same story.
Enjoyment >10
My enjoyment cannot be expressed by a number, this story one of kind unique and has never be done before. This manga is a masterpiece not only is it a never done before story that is near hentai level but it also didn't give me any arousal because the manga was self aware that it was no nut November at the time of reading this. What a true mad lad of a manga.
There is a reason why only got one chapter, because masterpieces don't need sequels.
I give this manga a zero.
Manga Review 👏 👏
Overall 0 (but it would be a decent hentai and worthy of a 4)
Recommend reading it if you have nothing else to do and don't made reading basically hentai or if your a fan of Masahiro Itosugi work.

Chasing the Sun is a romance manhua that can be read in 3 hours. Its about a girl named Ke Le and the relationships she builds with her classmates but as well as the handsome host, Yan Shu.
The reason why I believe this story is great is because it doesn't drag on like your average romcom school manga, the characters aren't one dimensional and they have actual depth to them with their own unique backgrounds. Each character has their own issues and problems that shaped them as who they are. The enjoyment of this story comes from the MC developing relationships with her
...
classmates and Yan Shu.
If you want to read a short romance manhua that ends on a good note and doesn't leave void, than I highly recommend this.
If your looking for a generic romcom story (where the closest thing to a relationship is the shipping fan art) than this story isn't for you, there isn't anything funny about this manhua.
