One day, while at a Barnes and Noble I went to, they had a small Ghibli section. At the time, I've only watched Spirited Away, which had a little picture representing it on the side of the Totoro merch filled section. However, on the other side of the display was a picture of some movie I had never heard of called Kiki's Delivery Service, which had a cute little witch girl on a broom with bread underneath her. From this picture alone, I soon messaged my friend that we NEEDED to watch this movie. Later that night, two friends and I watched through it in
...
the charming original dub, laughing all the way through.
As I watched it, I felt an overwhelming amount of peace, as the movie feels like a warm blanket around you with its soft and classic Ghibli art style and soothing but adventurous music. Kiki's cat, Jiji, always managed to make my friends and I laugh, with his witty but still caring personality and jokes. Places such as the bakery and Kiki's room gave me memories of the times I spent in my grandma's house as a kid, something very few things manage to capture.
Many people often talk about Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro when discussing Ghibli. While they are of course outstanding movies themselves, Kiki's Delivery Service deserves just as much love as them and all of the other movies. If you are ever in the mood for a cozy and heart warming movie, this is an excellent one.
Please watch Kiki's Delivery Service.
