Both Ares and Claymore feature solitary warriors, revenge, a medieval setting, intrigue, and incredible battles. Claymore has a lot of supernatural action and more evolutions of the plot, in contrast to Ares's action which stays visceral and focused throughout the series. Ares just got better and better throughout, whereas Claymore lost a little something when it became more grand in scope. However, they're both very good and unique stories that resemble each other far more than any other anime/manga.

Both series have doll-jointed miniature girls with quirky personalities engaging in various antics appropriate for their stature to make for a cute, comic atmosphere. And in both anime, the girls are essentially paired up with (and live in the house) of a high school boy. The plots differ in thematic depth and style of presentation, but the characters are likable in similar ways.
