Phew, "Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san" eh? Tough one... The story resolves around the obvious 2 main characters Nagatoro and Hachiouji. Their relationship is comparable to a puppet master with her puppet. In this case, Nagatoro is the puppet master and Hachiouji the puppet. To say this anime has taken a different approach than other romance anime would be an understatement.
Story: 4/10
If you're a die hard fan of anime that have nice plots or story developments, this anime probably isn't for you. I mean it; don't watch it, you'll be disappointed. If you just like to witness some cute romantic moments between the 2 main characters, you
...
might hop on this one. Because in the end, that's what this anime is all about: the romantic development between Nagatoro and Hachiouji.
Art: 3/10
The animation of this anime is not good enough for the 2021 standard. On some occasions, certain things just didn't add up (unrealistic proportions). When looking at the art of an anime, you can really be blown away by it (like Demon Slayer or the Fate series) or you can be disappointed by it (like... well this one). Had it been animated by Ufotable, this anime would have had a much higher score lol
Sound: 5/10
The style of the opening is certainly one you don't hear very often. In a way it's refreshing, but me personally; I didn't like it. It's one of those openings you grow tired of after listening to it twice. It doesn't really capture the attention, so you're better off just skipping it. The background music is what you'd expect from a slice of life/romance anime: some lighthearted sounds without much melody. Overall, pretty average.
Character: 6/10
All right, as much as the characters annoy me, they're still enjoyable to watch. This sentence doesn't really add up does it? Let me explain. While the constant "Paisen-ing" and "Sennnnnpai" can be very irritating to listen to, you get used to it after hearing it a couple of times. This applies to the other annoying factors as well. Nagatoro is a bully at heart. You could describe her as the reincarnation of the devil. But why does she act the way she does? Because of her romantic interest in Hachijouji. Pretty cute right? She constantly teases him only because she loves him. It might come off as bullying, but if you understand the reasoning behind it, it's actually pretty wholesome. That's what I mean with "the characters annoy me, but they are enjoyably to watch".
Enjoyment: 8/10
After all these low scores, you might think: why the hell did this guy still rate this anime as a 7/10? That's where the enjoyment factor comes into play. While the art, characters and plot annoy me, it is still enjoyable to watch. After watching an episode I look forward to the next one. Don't ask me why, it's just a feeling (it really isn't that deep bro).
Overall: 7/10
Many people rate this anime as a 2-3-4/10 and I can certainly see where they're coming from. Nevertheless I still enjoy watching this anime and I'd recommend this to all romance fans who enjoy some lighthearted romance anime!
