Yuri on Ice is an anime of Fall 2016, that just ended on December 22, 2016. The series revolves around 23 year old Yuri Katsuki, who had just recently returned from his 5 year trip from high school, and his miserable crash from his Ice Skating career. Now that the previous season was over for him, Yuri went back home to Hasetsu, Japan, to see his family and friends back home. Fortunately, Yuri's love for Ice Skating never died, and
...
as soon as he came home from the failing season, he showed Yuuko, his friend who works at the ice rink, just exactly what he has been working on: An exact copy of Russian Iceskating legend, Victor Nikiforov's latest Free Skate Program of the season: Stay Close to Me (and one of my favorite routines lol). Unfortunately, Yuuko's daughters, Axel, Loop and Lutz, secretly recorded Yuri's imitation, and posted it on social media, making him go viral. At this point, everyone in the world had seen his skate, that including the one and only Victor. Drawn by the way he moved to the music, Victor decided to not compete in the next season's competition, and headed to Hatsetsu to train Yuri as his coach.
Okay, so if you don't know already, I AM YOI TRASH. Like, whenever a new episode came out, i couldnt stop screaming. No wonder my feelings have vanished overnight, they were given to the finale of Yuri on Ice. Also, don't be mislead by the title. I am 110% sure that this is not a Yuri anime. Definitely not. Like i scream at this series lots of times, and a girl x girl ship happening is definitely not it. If you were looking for a Fall 2016 Yuri anime, Id suggest checking out Izetta: The Last Witch. I havent watched it myself yet, but from the gifs ive seen on tumblr, it looks really good. But anyways, if i to explain YoI in three words, theyd probably be something around:
International Gay Iceskaters.
Yeah.
But for a person who hasnt really been much on Yaoi series or Sports animes in general, I really loved Yuri On Ice, and it easily became my favorite Fall 2016 anime.
WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!
Story: 8/10
Ok, like I said before, I never really was much for Sport animes, Yuri On Ice being the second one I watched, and Ao No Kanata No Rhythm Four being the first(or 50%, the parody of Free if that counts), the genre goes by a certain story to it; The main Protagnist dwells intrest in a sport, become very determined to win competiton, gets support from another protagnist, they bond a relationship throughout the series, they enter the competition, and "you either get booed or win a medal." (Quote from Haru from 50% off. ) This type of story can either really draw a person in, or draw them away even more. I'm going to be honest with you, I never really enjoyed watching sports, real life ones, or animated. I don't know, but I never really saw them as exciting. However, when I started watching Yuri On Ice however, the story wasn't the first thing that caught my attention. And to be honest it usually it never is for me, rather its the characters that catch me before-hand (though this wasn't the case for YoI either.) Even so, I rated the story of the series an 8 because by episode 5 or 6, like the point where Yuri was in the China Cup, I started really getting pumped for the next epsiode. To be honest the tension they added in the series of making the podium, or a succesful posistion or not. By the end, I screamed The story really got to me around the midpoint of the series, and it was around the thrid, maybe fourth reason why I continued watching it in the first place. But anyways, yeah, for not being a sports person, the story was really good, and I definetely give an 8/10.
Art: 10/10
The art style, as well as the animation to the show was the first thing that caught my eye in Yuri on Ice. I've loved ice skating for a few years now, but I figured there was probably no way I could learn, since there aren't that many ice rinks around where i live at. But, when I watched the first episode of Yuri On Ice, the animation was amazing, and I really have taken a liking to it still. My first impression on the series was the animation and art style, and to be honest, thats what made me continue to watch the series. To be honest, I wasn't going to continue watching Yuri On Ice after episode 1, but I thought about how much I enjoyed the animation and art style of the series, and i decided to continue with episode 2, and i became attached by 3. So, you can thank the animation fir hooking me into the series, otherwise i was just going to drop it at episode 1 and nit come back to it for months for another shot. And thats why Yuri on Ice's animation and art style gets a 10/10 from me. Plus, its really pretty and I just love it.
Sound: 10/10
Ok, so if you have 99% of the YoI soundtrack on your iPod that you listen to daily, everywhere you go, I think you got the right to give the Sound to this series a 10/10. Seriously. I listen to this on the bus on the way to highschool everyday, and occasionally i have the nerve to play it out loud and annoy all of the little 7th graders in the back of the bus with it. But yeah, definitely love the YoI soundtrack. My favorites would definitely include "Stay Close to Me," "Serenade for Two," "In Regards to Love: Agape," and "Shall We Skate." The soundtrack also helps devolp the characters, as if emotional scenes weren't enough. Also, I think their skate music makes you like some of the characters more. For example, my first impressions on JJ weren't that hot, like I thought he was a loud and egotistic character that I felt was going to be really annoying. But, a few nights after episode 9 or 10 aired, I went ahead and binge-listened to the Yuri On Ice Soundtrack while working on a project for science, and I had ran across the theme of King JJ. But instead of me skipping it, I kinda just left it there and kept working on my project. I don't know why, but when the new episode aired, I didn't hate on JJ anymore, in fact I liked him. And I'm guessing it was thanks to the themes too. Sometimes, I sit in the car and have my parents get upset at me because I'm going deaf with "Duetto" blasting in my ears, and they could hear it from their side of the car. If that doesn't owe a 10/10, I don't know what will.
Characters: 10/10
Is this really any shocking? If you've read any other of my reviews, the characters are the main component of why I continue watching an anime. Like, if I don't have at least one character in a series to keep me sane, I probably won't continue to watch it. Sometimes, there were shows that I didn't care much for, but I continued watching it for that ONE character i liked. However, in Yuri!!! On Ice's case, I watched it because i love ALL of the characters. Like, even the ones you'd hate in real life for being over dramtic or a giant perv, you love in this show because of that. Chris is a perfect example. When i saw Chris for the first time, debuted in 5 (i think? Yeah pretty sure it was 5), and they showed the audience his routine, I was laughing, saying "Haha hes a pervert. I love it," while screaming at the same time: "Chris NO Please dont do anything on the ice." And even though he was the one I personally really screamed at minority character wise, I still loved him for his quirks, and I miss the Switz. And like I had mentioned before with JJ, i even turned out liking him by episode 11 or something around there. Its like, you love the characters even if somethings wrong with them. Like they have flaws, yes, but that doesnt give you any reason to hate any of them. And I dunno if I already said this, but I have never fell in love with a cast of characters that quickly. Like, usually, there's at least one character I don't like, or at least don't care for, but Yuri on Ice didn't seem to be the case. If an anime can make me love the ENTIRE cast of characters in just one season of 12 episodes, than the Characters definitely gets a 10/10.
Enjoyment/General: 10/10
Now, for my first impressions, the first couple of episodes that aired, I gave the series an 8/10, because I thought it was really good, and even though Im not much on Sport or Yaoi series, it seemed like it was a really good series with lots of potential. However, by episode 6 or 7, I changed my rank to a 10, because I had just fallen in love with it. I got really excited for the series, for all of its componets, not just its Characters or OST. Though I have never really dwelled in Sports anime in general, I really enjoyed Yuri On Ice, and its made me want to ice skate even more from 3 or 4 years ago. I really enjoy how it just hooks you in, even if you never watched a sports game in your entire life (Seriously, whenever someone asks me what team I like, and I say no, they become really shocked). Yuri on Ice is a really good series in my opinion, and I reccomend it if you're okay with Yaoi ships. If you really don't like guy relationships, then don't watch, because there's a LOT of shipping there, just for the fan service. But, if you're okay with it, then go ahead, I enjoyed it myself. Anyways, as for Enjoyment and general grading, I definitley give Yuri On Ice a 10/10, and it has definetley has become a favorite of mine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyways, that's all for now! Hope you all enjoyed, and hope to see you next time!
Clannad is one of the many animes that is created by Key, a fairly popular visual novel production company. Other productions they've made include Kanon, Air, and Angel Beats. Clannad, along with it's sequel, Clannad After Story, are very well known, Clannad's popularity reaching #20 on the popularity list, and Clannad After Story reaching #10 in the rankings. The anime tells the story of Tomoya Okazaki, a second-year in high school. Due to his relationship with his father, Tomoya has lost hope, and has been skipping class more than he should because of it. That is, until he meets Nagisa Furuwaka, a shy and sweet
...
girl who had stayed behind for that year, due to a sickness she recived near the end of the year. The girl wanted to begin a drama club, and participate in the festival that takes place mid-semester. But, seeing that Nagisa has the student council against her, and not enough members to start a club, Tomoya decides to help her, and along with the friends they made, Nagisa successfully created the Drama Club, and participated in the Festival.
This sounds like a really cute and cheerful anime, right? Well, here's the thing; it's not. Key's productions have this theme to it. Everyone has a deeper story than what they seem. I originally found the series when Noble had one of his signature "Try not to Cry" challenges. And around that time, everyone was teasing him about him getting upset about the ending of the series Clannad After Story (which I have seen for myself as well.) But anyways, the reason why I started Clannad was because it must be one of those animes you get really attached to, and makes you bawl for hours about it. And at that point, I hadn't seen that many animes then, like maybe 5 at that point, (And now I'm at like 50 bajeezus). So, I basically gave the sub a try since my Anime-watching app couldn't play the dubs. And after the first episode, I went right to the next one. I watched the whole series one night when my sleeping schedule was all over the place. But anyways, let's get on with the review! WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 10/10 So, like I explained before, Clannad is basically like a very dramatic harem anime, though there are 2 guys in the group, unlike the usual one main male protaginist in the gang. The story revolves around the main couple in the series, Nagisa Furuwaka, and Tomoya Okazaki. One day, at the beginning of Tomoya's second year of high school, a young girl had broken the silence of the new year, saying the phrase: "AnPan," or a type of Japanese food. The guy turned towards her, suprised due to her sudden outburst. The girl, however, kept staring into the distance, only murmuring him the question: "Do you like this school?" This, was the beginning of Clannad, the beginning of our what seems to be a simple love story between a girl and a boy. Seems simple and shoujo enough, right? Haha.... For the people who haven't even seen the series, I have news for you. It's not. Clannad is full of heartbreak, and sadness, and everything that seems pessimistic. Though, my review on Clannad After Story will cover more as to why the series as a whole has such a depressing mood itself. In the meantime, I'd like to say that Clannad is definetley one of those animes that really tugs at your heart strings, and if you don't like crying, I'd suggest you watch out. For me, personally, I enjoy Clannad, as it had some of the most heart-wrenching moments, as well as the light and comical ones as well. But yes, I give the story a 10/10, deal with it. Art: 10/10 Key has a certain type of art style that I really enjoy. You'll notice it with a lot of Key's works, Clannad, Kanon, Angel Beats... You get the idea. I dunno why, but I've always loved the Key Studio's art style. Their big shiny eyes is probably the first thing you notice about the style, especially in the girl's designs. The men have more of a narrow eye shape than the most of the girls (Except for like Sunohara, but I believe that is to represent his immature and childish personality), but they still have a similar lighting in their eyes compared to the girls. Clannad's uniforms are unique to other Slice-of-Life Animes like that of Lucky Star, Nichijou. While their outfits set off a cutesy-and fun tone, while those of Clannad's, as well as the rest of Key's works, give off more of a formal tone, brinign out a more serious tone to the characters and show in general. Does that mean the whole serious is formal and serious? No, of course not. Clannad may be very heart-wrenching and dramatic, but it has its light moments as well. A couple of my favorites are "A Toilet Seat Cover," and "Nagisa's and Tomoya's first date." But anyways, art gets a 10/10, seeing that it's one of my favorite art styles. Sound: 8/10 The Soundtrack, as well as the OST to Clannad is fairly good, and it fit very well with the series. But, like I had said with Tales of Symphonia, there are some themes to the show, that if you listen to them you might get teary-eyed. Yes, I still enjoyed it and all, it's just it's not the kind of soundtrack you want to listen to on the bus in complete silence, becuase there are going to be some tears. The OP and ED, however, are very good, and they don't bring as many tears. In fact, I think Dango Daikazoku is one of my favorite anime endings, and its on one of my playlists I listen to all of the time. The opening is fairly good as well, though, I believe the OP to Clannad After Story a lot more. I mean, I like the OP to Clannad, but sadly, it did not quite make it to be downloaded onto my iPod, and put on one of my most-played playlists. But anyways, the soundtrack gets an 8/10, as it is very good, though its not one of my personal favorites like some animes' soundtracks are. Characters: 9/10 Now, a lot of people didn't like the characters all that much, seeing that everybody has a terrible backstory, and we should all feel bad because the main character's sad for some stupid reason, like they have the cliche that that their parents died, or they really don't have a good childhood or some crap, and that's all the reason for you not to like the cast. We have a guy with a injured arm, another guy who's a kiss-up to every girl he meets and tries extremley hard to do his best, a fairly happy girl with a sickness thst hits her in the winter-time, a girl who lost her parents and plays violin, a girl who's the ghost of her unconsius body in a hospital who begs everyone to go to her sister's wedding, twin girls who don't really have backstories like the others do, but still fall in love with the guy, and a girl whose parents who didn't get along, and a brother who now no longer can go around without his wheelchair. Sounds pretty much like a bunch of balaonga and drama to you at first glance, but to be honest, I really like some of these characters, a couple actually went on my personal favorites list. I noticed when I watch a series, the thing I really look at would be the characters, since that's who I'll be dealing with throughout the whole series. Since I enjoyed a few of the characters a lot, like Sunohara, Kotomi, Fuko and Nagisa, I enjoyed the series more than I would've without them. Sure, sometimes the fact that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, has a sad and tragic backstory gets annoying, but I still like the characters fairly well. Yes, there were a few characters that I wasn't much on, like Kyou and Tomoya's Father, but it wasn't like I hated all of the characters because of that. But anyways, I'm giving the characters a 9/10 Enjoyment/General: 8/10 As I enjoyed Clannad, and comparing it to its sequel, this anime gets an 8/10 for enjoyment, as I did enjoy it very much, I seemed to enjoy Clannad After Story a lot more. I feel like if you want a series that's really good, you gotta have a lot of paitence to see it get really good. I mean, I did cry near the end of Clannad, but I think there's a lot more heart-wrenching stuff in the sequel. Can you skip the first part and go straight to After Story? Yeah, you could, but I don't reccomend it. I think the reason why the sequel is a lot sadder, is because if you saw the first part already, you get attached to the characters, and it affects you even more. Kind of like when you watch the ending to a really long series. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, you get more upset over an ending of a show of 150 episodes, rather than one that lasts only 12 episodes, this being because you get attached to the characters a lot more. Sure, there may be a few exclusions to this theory, but I'm just saying Clannad After Story may affect you more if you watch its prequel first, seeing that this series is kind of a hook to get you into the sequel. It doesn't quite reach the 10/10 rating like it's sequel, but I still think Clannad is a very good series, and I reccomend you watch it, if you haven't seen any Key animes. Also, if you like a little drama, slice-of-life and romance, I think you would also like this series as well. And I on't think you'll regret it when you get to the sequel. I loved the series myself, and it seemed that was what got me into Key's works.
Tales of Gekijou
(Anime)
Note: This review was written on my Review Book on Wattpad. If you are interested, don't be shy to check it out! (Link's in my bio)
Tales of Gekijou is a 5-part anime series that features chibi-like versions of many Tales of Series. And, if you haven't guessed by now, I'm a HUGE fan of the Tales of Series. And if you don't know what the Tales of Series is, it's a RPG game series that mainly come on the PS systems, but, there are some exceptions of them being on Nintendo and XBOX systems, like Tales of the Abyss, Symphonia and Vesperia. Of course, if ... you don't access to play any of the games, there are manga and anime adaptions of the games, if you're interested in them, these including Abyss, Phantasia, Symphonia, Vesperia the First Strike, and the latest, Zestiria the X. Anyways, Tales of Gekijou is a just a cute little series of chibi Tales of Characters, and their adorable little missions. And I'm not just talking about Luke and Guy from TotA, We're talking Guy, Luke and Yuri all on a cute, little nonsense adventure. Just like every other Tales of Series that I've gotten into, my friend showed me tales of Gekijou a couple weeks after she finished her copy of Tales of Vesperia. I had just recently watched "Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike." We also had both just bought our own 3DS copies of Tales of the Abyss, so we knew just about the main characters of the series. So my friend comes to me one morning before first period, and tells me that she found a really cute Tales of Series on Youtube. And the best part is, we knew some of the characters. So that morning, we watched all 5 episodes of Tales of Gekijou, and we loved it. Even though we didn't know some of the characters, like Asbel from Tales of Graces, we still enjoyed it a lot. And to be honest, this is the kind of series that makes you want to play the series you haven't gotten a chance to. But anyways, enough ranting about how much I like the series, on with the review! Hope you like it! WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS..... EH..... ACTUALLY NOT REALLY....YOU CAN WATCH IT WITHOUT ANY TALES SERIES KNOWLEDGE... Story: 10/10 Yep, we're starting with big 10 for the series already. Here's the thing about Tales of Gekijou: Its kinda like Nichijou; it doesn't really have a story, but that's what makes it special. It's kinda like if you chibified a bunch of really serious characters, amplified their quirks by at least 10, and put them into more simple situations. That's basically Tales of Gekijou for you. It's more of a cute comedy, rather than some really intense action-adventure-drama anime that brings you to tears near the end, like just about every other Tales of Series you find. But hey, the cute things are really good, so story gets 10/10. Art: 10/10 To be honest, there isn't much explaining to express how much I love the art style of this series. I mean, admit it, you can't give anything less than a 10 for chibi-styled characters. No more to be said, the art deserves a 10/10. Sound: 8/10 Okay, confession time: I can't really remember what the soundtrack sounded like. I mean, I have a fair idea what they might sound like, but for once, I didn't really pay attention to the soundtrack. Whoops ^^... Maybe because I was paying attention to te characters more? I was laughing too hard? The series wasn't long enough for me to pay attention to the music like most animes? I'm not sure, I just really can't remember what the series soundtrack was like. I'm sure it was really good, seeing that mainly every Tales of Series' soundtracks are really good, so I'm pretty sure this was really good. Again, curse my stupid memory, so this gets a 8/10 Characters: 10/10 As you all should know by now, I really LOVE the Tales Series. And the more you get to know the different series, the more you get attached to the characters. And seeing that I at least know most of characters, means I know mainly what they're about, and how relatable they can be. Which means when you see Yuri, Guy, and Luke abandoned in an a forest, alone to fend for themselves, you can kinda guess what silly and random things might happen with the three of them. The characters have even more quirk than they do in their original series, since they really don't have to worry about any major issues from their series. But even so, I noticed they added some of the characters from Tales of Graces, like Asbel and Cheria, and even though I haven't played the game or read the manga, I still really liked the scenes with them in it, and it really wanted me to play the game even more than I did before. The characters of Tales of Gekijou are kinda like a sneak peek to the different Tales of series, making you laugh, get to know them, and want to play their games even more. So basically, the characters get a 10/10. Enjoyment/General: 10/10 In general, I really loved Tales of Gekijou, just like every other Tales of Series. Its an adorable little comedy for any Tales of fan, or any person that at least has a little interest in any of the series at all. Just like the mobile game "Tales of Link," Tales of Gekijou is kind of like your introductory to some Tales of games that gets really interested in the characters, and make you want to play the series you haven't seen even more. And it's not like you need very much knowledge on any of the other games, I don't know the characters from Graces of Destiny that well, but that doesn't mean you won't like them. It's a really good series, and, just like every other Tales of Series, I recommend it to anyone, at least give the Tales of Series a try, and if you don't like it, it's ok, I'm not going to judge you. I'm just saying you should give it a try, it doesn't matter which one you start out with (*cough cough* ABYSS*cough cough*), but anyways... There's nothing else to say about this review, so I'm going to wrap it up here.
Nichijou is an adorable Slice of Life anime that revolves around two different stories that eventually merge into one. The first, of three average high-school girls; Mio Naganohara, Yuuko Aioi, and Mai Minakami. The three survive high school, along with their many classmates and teachers, as well as the many obstacles that come their way. The other, consists of your average, clumsy robot girl, Nano Shinonome, living at home with her 8-year old Professor, Hakase Shinonome. The two girls ... conquer everyday problems and conflicts, such as what to do with a stray back cat, who now has the ability to speak due to a magic red scarf that Hakase had created, and how to hide Nano's Dharma, that's been covered in black marker. As the series progresses, the 6 girls cross paths, and become great friends. However, with these new acquaintances, come with even more little everyday problems. The cute little series is sure to make you laugh at least once, making it a great series to watch, and a personal favorite of mine. I had found Nichijou not long after I had gotten my profile on Osu, a rhythm game for the PC that is really, really addicting. My friend had found out that I was playing it, and we started playing multiplayer immediately. Thanks to her, I've improved a lot since March 2016, and I think I'm only 100,000 away from her in the rankings (Which is better than it sounds, since there over a million people in the ranks.) Anyways, one of the first songs we played was the theme to Nichijou. I thought it looked really cute whenever I played it, and I googled it to see where it was from. It turns out, the song was from Nichijou, and I started watching it immediately. I finished the series in a week, due to school, sleep and homework. Sadly though, the series does not have a sequel or second series to it, like Squid Girl, or Chi's Sweet Home does, but I believe it does the potential to have a second series to it. Anyways, as you can see, I really loved the series, and I really recommend it for anyone who likes a little comedy in their anime. Anyways, without further ado, let's get on with the review! WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 10/10 Yes, we're starting out with 10/10. Deal with it. Anyways, Nichijou's story is very lighthearted, and full of comedy. It's one of those stories that seems like their is a point, and yet no point at all. Sometimes, the story wouldn't progress for another episode or two, and just filling it with little cute and funny shorts to make you smile. And its not like it doesn't have a story, it really does. If the it didn't, I don't think the 6 girls would've crossed paths in the first place. The ending was also very heartwarming, seeing that the girls celebrated Nano's birthday, making her feel happy, causing the function on her key activate right away. The only issue I have with the ending was that the minor characters were not involved. I felt like they all should've had their little endings, like if the Teachers got together or not, you know, cute little endings like that. But yeah, otherwise the story was great and I give it a 10/10. Art: 10/10 Yep, again, the art style of Nichijou really goes with the adorable concept of the comedy/slice-of-life theme. I've drawn the art style one maybe a couple projects, because a lot of people had wanted me to draw more on Undertale Amino, and I ended up drawing a comic of Mettaton as Nano and Alphys as Hakase, and the art style was very cute, and easy to pick up. It took a little while though, since I had school in between. I really enjoyed how the series looked as if it jumped out of a manga itself, (which, it kind of did in fact), especially the "Helvetica Standard," scenes. But yeah, nothing really to complain about for this section, so another 10/10. Sound: 10/10 Tired of the 10s yet? Haha too bad. No no, just kidding, just kidding. Kinda like how I mentioned with DBZ, Nichijou's soundtrack is really unique, giving it a certain vibe, but instead of Dragon Ball's action-packed vibe, Nichijou gives off a quirky and fun feel to it, going smoothly along with the characters of the story. In addition, just like Tales of Symphonia, I can go back to the series' soundtrack alone, and listen to it for hours, except I won't be bawling my eyes out over sad scenes like ToS. Instead, most of the soundtracks make you smirk or giggle. And that being said, the Soundtrack is given a 10/10, nothing to complain about whatsoever. Characters: 9/10 Ok, so don't get me wrong, I loved each and every one of the characters in Nichijou, I really did, it's just I wished they brought more of the minor characters out a little more. Like, I'm not complaining that they added the main characters too much in the series, I just wish they brought up some of the minor characters as well. For example, if you haven't noticed, I really like the teachers that wok at the school, Izumi and Takisaki, and how her brother, Makoto blocks in the way of their relationship. Though they aren't the main characters of the series, we see them every once in a while, and we get the idea that Takisaki has a thing for Izumi, but family stands in the way for either of them to get any further in their relationship. In a way, this idea brings out the short-and-sweet style of the Slice-of-Life genre, but, this is where I believe a separate side story should come in, revolving around the minor characters, rather than the main ones, relatively to how Lucky Star revolves around Konata and her friends, but also around Kyou and her friends, and Konata's cousin, Yutaka, along with her first-year friends. But anyways, seeing that I'm getting sidetracked with similar Slice-of-Life Animes, so I'm giving the character section of this anime a 9/10. Enjoyment/General: 10/10 Ok, so I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I REALLY liked this anime. Like, it's one of those that I wouldn't mind going back to to re-watch it, but I don't have the time with a big "Plan to Watch" list of 40 different animes. It's definitely a great anime to check out, if you want a little comedy in your life, and you have a little time. Seeing that I've watched a handful of Slice-of-Life Animes, and this being one of my favorites that also got me into the genre itself, that proves that I highly recommend it. Even if Slice -of Life isn't your thing, I still think you should at least give it a try. I mean, there wasn't that much I didn't like about the series really, and maybe I'm being to soft on the series, maybe I'm not. But anyways, all I'm saying is that everyone should at least give this anime a try, and if they do like it, great. If they don't, oh well, everyone has their own taste in anime.
Tales of Vesperia is a RPG game that was exclusive for the XBOX 360. It had done so well that it had received a movie adaption, that takes place 10 years after the Great War. Yuri Lowell, hero of Zaphias, along with his loyal friend Flynn, have just become Imperial Knights. Meanwhile, Estellise, Princess of the Capital, along with the Imperial Knights Commander, Alexia Denoia, are currently fighting for the power in the Capital. Now, Yuri and Flynn ... begin their first mission, learning the new ways of a knight, as well as what sacrifices it takes to be one. So I watched this movie maybe a month or two after I finished Tales of Symphonia with my friend, who had just recently gotten Tales of Vesperia for Xbox 360 at the time. She had just finished the game, and I had just read the first few chapters of the manga, since there is no anime for ToV. But anyways, since my friend had the money, and every anime/manga browser is locked at our school, my friend bought the movie off of iTunes for us to watch at an assembly or after school at art club or something. So we finally did watch the movie, I think we watched half-and half maybe, I can't exactly remember, but we both loved the movie (well, maybe she loved it a little more than me since she actually played the game and knew more about that series than me "^^). But anyways, enough of my background on the series, let's start with the review. Hope you all like it!. WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 8/10 Ok, so the story to the First Strike is really good, and its not any spoiler-filled movie that goes with the game, but there are probably things that would be explained if you played the game as well. There are probably things that I didn't quite get because I haven't played the game yet, which kinda gets me upset. Yes, I still loved the movie, it's just I need to play the game to understand it more. For those who are like me, I think you guys will enjoy it an 8/10, but it might change if I ever get a chance to play the game myself. Art: 10/10 So if you don't know from my past review on Tales of Symphonia, I absolutley LOVE the Tales of Series art style, from the art style in general, to character designs themselves. I just love the art of the series as a whole, and I can never rate a Tales of Series art style less than a 10. I mean, I've never reallyseen anything about it that I haven't disliked about it yet (cough cough Tales of Berseria designs cough cough), but for The First Strike, I'm givning it a 10/10. Sound: 10/10 So just like the art style of the Tales of Series, I love the soundtrack of Tales of Vesperia. Even though I don't have the soundtrack on my iPod music library like I do for Tales of Symphonia, I still really like it, because I'm pretty sure if I ever go back to listen to it again, it'll bring back feelings from the movie. And no, it won't bring as much emotion as it does for Tales of Symphonia, seeing that I wasn't able to connect with the story as much as Tales of Symphonia, but I still love the soundtrack of Vesperia. Anyways, another 10/10 goes to Tales of Vesperia the First Strike. Characters: 9/10 Ok, so don't kill me because I gave the characters a 9/10. I really liked the cast of characters for ToV, I really did, a lot of them make you smile, or give you a chuckle, but I'm pretty sure I would've loved them more if I played the game. I'm not dissapointed in how the Tales of Series created this cast, I really liked them, it's just I might've liked them even more if I played the game. Like, I still have a giant interest in learning more about them, since they seemed really interesting in the movie, and I'd still need to play the game in order to do so. But, seeing that you don't need the game to enjoy them at least a little, I'd give the characters a 9/10 General/Enjoyment: 10/10 Okay, so like I said, I loved this movie to the fullest, especially since I haven't played the game at all. To be honest, this movie got me wanting to play the game even more, even though I can't get access to my brothers XBOX. I mean, I have read some of the manga, which I highly recommend to anyone who can't play the game like me. And also, if you're interested in the Tales of Series as a whole, I'd suggest getting the app "Tales of Link," where it's basically a better version of Brave Frontier, and the series features all the characters from the Tales of Series. But yeah, I loved this movie a lot, even though there were probably things I didn't understand, due to the lack of knowledge on the game. But all and all, this is a great movie to check out, especially since its rather short, 2 hours at max, and it's definetley something to start out for the Tales of Series. So basically , I enjoyed this anime whole-heartedly, and it receives a 10/10 for me.
Also: I'll be posting the same review for all three seasons, since I made a general review for the series, not the seasons in separate. Ok, so if you guys don't know, Tales of Symphonia is one of my FAVORITE animes, along with the rest of the Tales of Series. After i finished ToS, me and a friend had found other animes in the series as well, which we both love to death. So my friend said she found an old ... Gamecube game that her father owned called "Tales of Symphonia." It was an anime RPG about a girl, Colette, was chosen to be an angel, and the Chosen to regenerate the world. A few days later, I saw she was an anime on YouTube, and it was a good thing a stopped her there, because that was when things got really sad and intense, and she probably wouldn't have looked that happy in first period that day. But anyways, we started watching the series from episode 1, and we finished the series in a few weeks time. For a short anime, Tales of Symphonia is a very good anime, that is really worth watching and re-watching over and over again. I've only watched the series 3 or 4 times, but my friend said she's seen it around 30, maybe 40 times. Anyways, let's get started on the review! Hope you all like it! WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 10/10 Ok, so I'm sorry if I'm taking this not hard enough, but like I said before, I LOVED this series. It's one of those short stories where you rewatch them over and over again. And only for 11 episodes, it surely brings out its potential. Tales of Symphonia takes place in the kingdoms of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla. where three races of people lived; humans, elves, and half-elves. The half-elves believed that their race was treated unfairly, and formed a pact, called the Desians. The Desians were defeated long ago by the hero, Mithos, and the goddess Martel, but, over time, their power had weakened, and the Desians has risen once more. Meanwhile, Colette Brunel, a 16-year old high-school girl, has been chosen to become the Chosen Angel of Regeneration. Her friends, Lloyd Irving, Genis and Raine Sage, accompany on her journey of regeneration, only to find that out that her journey was more like a sacrifice, if you know what I mean. Now, the gang must try to get her back, while saving the world from hatred. Recruiting a new team of allys, Lloyd and his friends set off to save Colette. and the rest of the world. Like I said before, this is a beautiful story. I'm not going to go much into detail, due to some really big and sad spoilers, but it's a really good story to the anime, and I definitley give it a 10/10. Art: 10/10 Again, I really feel like I'm being to easy on this anime, it's just I love this anime a LOT. The art style is beautiful in this anime. The special effects, the battle scenes, the designs, EVERYTHING. And I gave it a 10 for art, because everything was beautiful. I'm sorry I'm giving everything on this a ten, I just really fell in love with this series as a whole, art, characters, everything. Another thing I really like about the art is the character designs. My favorites are paticualry Sheena's, Colette's, and Presea's. They're very unique, compared to your typical combat skirt, or suit of armor. Like I said, maybe I'm being to easy on this anime, maybe I'm not. But anyways, another 10/10 for the art. Sound: 9/10 Ok, I really love the soundtrack to Tales of Symphonia. I have all three theme songs on my iPod and I listen to them ALL the time. It's just you don't want to listen to some of them too much, especially right after you finished the series. It kinda stirs up some of the sad scenes from the series (*cough cough* DEATHS *cough cough*) My friend says she hardly ever cries, but this was the first anime that was really hard to watch in public. Even so, there are some themes in the ToS soundtrack that make me smile, while others get me teary-eyed. Whether you see that as a good thing or not, I really enjoyed the soundtrack, even though it gets you in tears at times. So basically, I'm giving it a 9/10, not another 10 suprisingly. Characters: 10/10 Okay, so like I said before, I LOVED everything about this anime. The cast is AMAZING. Like, theyre the kind of cast that you grow attached to, no matter what kind of character they are. And by that, I mean your characters can range from the pervy and outgoing Zelos, to the quiet and strong Presea. And I'm going to admit, I love each and every one of them. It's just one of those animes where I can't choose just ONE favorite character. Like, this is one of those animes where you love ALL of the characters. So yeah, basically another 10 for Symphonia. General/Enjoyment: 10/10 Yeah, I know, not really a big surprise here. I said this many a time before in this review, I LOVED this anime a lot, and there's really no flaws that I saw in it, unlike the past couple of animes I had just given reviews on. And if you're like me, and loved the series just as much as me, I'd reccomend trying the game if you can afford it, as well as others in the series, like Tales of the Abyss, Zestiria, and Vesperia. Yeah, what I'm trying to get at is that it's a really good series, and I think at least everyone should at least try it before they bite it. It has a little of everything for everyone; drama, action, adventure, a little comedy and romance... Yeah. Anyways, yeah, a big One-O goes to this anime, its a great anime, and I highly reccomend it for anyone. show less
So, recently after I finished Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, I thought Dragon Ball Z Kai, or DBZ for short, was another anime that seemed interesting to me, so I started to watch that one as well. But, like I said about Naruto, when I go back to the anime, it just doesn't do much for me anymore. I don't know why, but that's just how I am. So, maybe before, when I had just finished the anime, I would've ... given it something like an 8, but I have a feeling I might rate DBZ a 5 or 6, just like Naruto. So, without further ado, lets get started! WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 8/10 Ok, so like I said with Naruto, I really liked DBZ when I first watched it, but sadly, when I try going back to it, it just doesnt do the sane for me anymore. Im not saying that the story is bad, I liked it a lot to be precise. And yes, just like every other anime, DBZ has its flaws. First off, battles are veeeeeery long. And I have to admit, some of them are enjoyable, if you're in that kind of thing. But if you cant get online to watch the series, and it comes on Television once a week, some battles can last weeks, months even. Sure, I love my share of extremely long animes, but without internet to binge watch the series, it took me forever to finish the series. Like what Im trying to get at is I really liked the story, its just the length and my capabilities to the internet at the time proved that lots of anticipation was found as I watched the anime. Sometimes that would be a good thing, and others it wouldnt, mainly because excitement would come for Saturdays, and other times i would be groaning in agony because Saturday was almost a whole week away, and I had to go through a full school week just to see one episode. Sometimes it would be very annoying, until I had recieved internet acess. After that, I sped through the anime way quicker, and Dragon Ball Z Kai became my 2nd completed anime. If I had given this series a review as soon as I finished it, I might have given it a 9 or 10 over all, but seeing that it doesnt do much for me as it did before, so this section i decided to give an 8. Art: 8/10 Another 8/10 goes to the art. Now I have to admit, the art for this series is very simple and original. Unlike most animes that feature a lot of male characters, and plenty of references for the style of art in male characters, such as Free!, Naruto, and Daily Lives of High School Boys, never have I seen an anime that has such a fun and simple design to it. Unlike most animes, Dragon Ball Z Kai has a simple eye style, that usually conist of a single black pupil in a simple eye shape, like an arch, or oval shape, such as Goku and Nappa, while others do not have any white area to their pupils, such as Krillin. Some characters, like Bulma, have shinier eyes, which include a colored Iris, black pupil, and highlights and reflections to make the eye style more anime-like and cuter. I actually liked the anime style a LOT. Its very unique and cute, a great change-up in art style, especially if youre looking for a change-up in your art style for once. Sound: 9/10 To be honest, I really loved the soundtrack to Dragon Ball Z, it was a lot different than other soundtracks that Ive heard in the past (and future of course), that had a very lively tone to it. I mean theres not much to say about it that was bad about it, I enjoyed it a lot, and that's saying something, since when i go back to the series and im not enjoying it as i did before. Characters: 7/10 Dragon Ball Z's character cast is pretty original, yet, even when watching it for the first time, I never really got attached to any of them, which is strange, since you usually have at least have one character you get attached to in an anime. I mean, you have your different species characters and plenty of little animals and creatures that are allies to the main character, Goku. And a plus to the character cast is that a good amount of characters can put up a fight, so if you really lile strong characters that take weeks for a fight to finish, this is an anime for you. There arent that many flaws on the series, except, like I mentioned before, I just didn't get attached to a character in the series, and Im not sure why. So, i believe this section deserves a 7/10. Enjoyment/General: 6/10 So, another anime that I try going back to enjoy, that fails. I mean, I might've given it a 7 or 8, but, trying to rewatch now a days, it... Just doesnt do the same for me as it did the first time around. I mean, i really enjoyed it a few years ago, but I kind of lost interest when i tried to rewatch it, it just didnt do the same for me. So in general, I think i enjoyed this anime a 6/10.
Ok, so if you guys don't know, Naruto is an action/martial arts/shounen anime, with a second season called Naruto Shippuden. Even though the manga was completed, the author, Masashi Kishimoto, has created a second series, or rather, a next generation, called Boruto. Though I haven't read any of that series what-so-ever, this review will be only on tt revolves around the series that revolves around Naruto. I was first introduced into anime becuase of Naruto, and I started picking up ... the manga at my library. I finished the manga in about a year, with every-other week trips to the library, and I pretty much enjoyed it. Later on, I started watching the anime, and the rest is history. Sometimes I'll look at some things fan-made for the series, but I dont look into it that much anymore. WARNING! THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! Story: 8/10 Naruto's story is pretty straight-forward: a child with spiky blond hair was hated and disliked because he had a demon stuck inside him. But as he developed to be a better ninja, he learned more about his lost parents, the demon deep inside him, and how to control the power that he was given. And even though everyone hated him (except for his stalker- I mean fellow ninja who crushed on him, Hinata, his rival, Rock Lee, and every last one of his senseis), Naruto had faith in everyone, and loved them all like family. Even when Sasuke had changed sides, and joined the Akatsuki, Nauto still believed in him, and cared about him unlike everyone (Maybe not like Sakura but...) . I decided to give the story in this anime an 8, because this anime does have potential, it really does, it's just the series is pretty much over-hyped. When I got into the series, I had high hopes that it was good as the fans of the series had said. Sure, I tolerated through the whole thing, and I'm not saying it's a bad series, just over-hyped. There's also a lot of dragged out parts that shouldn't have, especially the fighting scenes. Fights took several episodes, even though they could've been covered in one or two. Generally, I feel as if the story is pretty good over-all, but it's not a masterpiece like most people say it is. Art: 7/10 Ok, so yes, I like some of the outfit designs given to certain characters (Ex: Kiba, Deidara, Hinata, etc.,), but others were, no offense, but really werent smart (*cough cough* Choji *chough cough*). I mean, when you give a character a bage to wear on their head like a pair of fricken panties, and you thought that was a good idea? I'm sorry but you have problems. Also, there were many flaws and errors in the graphic designs that are unforgettable, like some of the graphics with Pain. Yes, some of the results can be funny, like pausing Lost Pause or something, but I mean sometimes you'd see flaws in the animation without pausing. I feel as if I've seen better art and animation styles in later animes that I've seen. Sound: 8/10 The soundtrack to this series is probably one of the most memorable parts to the series, especially some of the more sadder things, like Gaara's backstory. Though some of the fight themes could've deserved better themes, and the tribal-voice song thing wasn't as good either, but I'm deciding to give the soundtrack an 8, because most of it I enjoyed, and openings werent that bad either. Characters: 7/10 The characters in Naruto have good and bad to them. I love how each character has a dream that is related to their backstory, and how some characters can relate to another in some way (Ex: Gaara and Naruto have been hated for the demons they posses inside them). But what I really don't like is Naruto's stupidity. And the fact that they stereotype women as if they can't do anything. Like seriously, first off, Naruto's stupidity isn't that silly, goofy-cute stupidity, like Nichijou is, it's just really annoying and immature stupidity, like after a while i was just like "Okay Naruto, thats enough. Just fucking stop." Another thing: Girls are stereotyped as useless in this anime. Sure, I really dislike Sakura, but every time she or any other female character tries to make a difference in the show, the spotlight and glory is shined on Naruto and his male buddies. I mean, come on! If you don't want the women to do anything in the show then don't put them there! For example, there was like one guy in Magica Madoka, and he didn't really make a difference in the show, so the creators didn't use him that much. And that makes sense. But please, if you're going to create a bunch of "Main Characters" that arent going to do anything at all besides waste space, then dont add them at all. So, in conclusion, because even though we have some problems that include stereotyping and personality traits in some protaginists, I decided to give this section of my review an 7/10. Enjoyment/General: 6/10 Seeing this was the very first anime I had ever watched, I thought that it was pretty good. But, for some reason, when I go back to it, I feel as if the series was a bit overhyped, and after I finished Naruto, there were other animes that I just enjoyed a lot more than Naruto. Yes, it was a good anime to start out with three years ago for me, but as I had more internet advantages, I had the chance to branch out my variety in anime and manga, and I found a ton of better animes. And for some reason I seem to enjoy the less likely animes rather than the ones that everyone talks about. So in general, I'd give Naruto a 6, a 5 at the least. It wasn't one of my personal favorites, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of crappy animes to move it up the list.
