Coming from Studio White Fox (Re:zero, Steins;Gate, Akame ga kill), the super controversal Goblin slayer !

I can't give this anime anything above bad (4/10) because it just has too many flaws.

The story is inexistant. You get 12 episodes of goblin slaying. Even though characters try many times to get Slayer out of his way so we can have some character development, some plot twist, basically, something. He'll just brush them away and keep his goblin slaying.

While the story is inexistant, it could still be good if the characters were interesting, which they are not. All the girls fall in love with the ... MC, and the others men are completely bland.

What about the animation? I don't know what White Fox did with the tons of money they earned with they previous success shows, but they didn't put any budget in Goblin Slayer. Heck, even Akame Ga Kill is better animated...

At this point, speaking of OST, Voice Acting and so on is just useless. This show is bad.

There is this very infamous studio : "DEEN".

Basically known for bad anime (Fate/stay night, Fruits Basket, Pupa...)

Then, one day, Studio Deen woke up and said : "Let's make some finally good f***ing anime!"

And they made an awesome show : konosuba.

While Deen is known for horrible animation, konosuba is surprisingly good to watch, movements are fluid, colors are really rich and good-looking.

... Still, after my first watch I wasn't convinced, seeing how popular it is, I gave it a second chance and rewatch it. One of the most worthy rewatch.

Little advice : Turn off your brain, admire the art (color/animation) and enjoy it.

Review written after completing the 2 seasons.

Seeing so many reviews saying the second season is better than the first, I watched both before making this review.

After finishing this show, I have this feeling it could have turned out great.

The art, cute designs and the focus on music attracted me.
By the way, the cgi really improved in season 2.


The biggest problem this show has is : the time. The story lasts only a school year, events are rushed. There is no tension at all, every events is one-episode-only. The lack of build-up brings us to another lack : the personality.

While K-on! story takes place on 3years, has only 4 characters to develop ... with 36 episodes, here, we have 1year, 9 characters and 24 episodes.

The characters lack of personality, some have no personality at all, some others are a duplicate of another one, and some are completely ignored.

Fortunately, 2 characters carry the show. A "good" tsundere (maki) and Nozomi. Would you expect to find a Mastermind like Lelouch or Light in a cute school idol show? No. Do you hate it? No. Nozomi is that outstanding.
Unfortunately, the episodes without these two are a complete mess.

While some episodes are good, the inconsistency of the show is really bad, that's why, I can't recommend this show.

If I were to give a score of Durarara until episode 16, I would gladly give it a well deserved 8/10.

While the animation is below average, the OST is incredibly good.
The story isn't too complicated but the way it's narrated is really original, so here again it's very good. Special mention for BlackRider, Shizuo and Kida that are really good characters. They do carry the show.

But then, unfortunately, everything collapse for the third and final arc.
It's almost as if the scriptwriter changed and didn't know the show.

Characters totally lose common sense, the story goes on without ANY logic.

I still recommend this anime, but I ... will advice you to stop at episode 16. Really. There's nothing more beyond except frustration to see such a good show go to waste.
