After God is an amazing and unique series that I’m really glad got recommended to me. One of the most obvious aspect that this manga nails is the artstyle and aesthetic: it is simply gorgeous, and the author spoils us with impeccable and inventive character designs and visuals to accompany it, all within meticulously crafted scenes that can evoke myriad of different emotions depending on the context. Even as someone who values the story much more than the art in any piece of media, I can’t deny that it is one of the reasons I’ve fallen in love with this manga. But what about the

story?
Well, I’ve fallen in love with it too. It admittedly takes a little while to get going, as can be observed trough the other reviews: the older ones mostly talk about the art and find the story whatever, but the more recent and up to date ones praise both of them equally. I feel this is representative of the manga’s slow start: however, the setup is well worth it, the characters are likeable from the start and despite some pretty heavy exposition, the original shows a vast enough potential to hook you from the get go. The best moments come later on, I remember the started to really click for me after the first two volumes, but the setup of those initial slower chapters is integral to the impact of the upcoming emotional peaks of the story.
If you like masterful artwork with a huge cool factor, deep characters with incredible chemistry with each other, as well as explorations of humanity, godhood and the relationship between those two concepts, I can’t see a reason not to recommend After God to you.
