Honestly I was very skeptical when getting into this anime, I was like "what is this ? Sangatsu no Lion for lolicon middle schoolers ? "
Truth be told Sangatsu is one of my favorite anime series I love the realistic drama, deep characters, interesting story progression I love everything about it. This anime didn't seem to have that kind of vibe so I really underestimated it. But here comes the weird part:
IT DOES NOT HAVE THOSE THINGS BUT IT STILL MADE ME LOVE IT !
I don't even know why !
First episode was like "Okay I got a good chuckle but whats with the huge
...
loli baits"
Second episode was like "Oh that was funny, I guess it's not bad after all"
And before I knew it I was waiting for the next episode to come out with excitement. Hell if I know why it became my most anticipated anime to come out weekly. I watch every episode twice, one alone and one with a Son Wukong reaction video. And I never get bored, I always laugh I always get full enjoyment out of it.
If you think about its parts separately and with a logical stand-point you won't see why it's enjoyable, the blend of these things just is. Its a fucking mystery I tell you. I guess it's also about who is watching it.
Great comedy (comedy is subjective so it might differ from the reader's tastes),
light hearted episodes but also some real drama and real shogi battles going on, it's not totally a lolicon anime (... who am I kidding but atleast it's not creepy with it.. only sometimes), top quality waifus (Sora Ginko top waifu, I will yu-gi-oh battle anyone who claims otherwise. It's time to Du-du-du-du-du-duel !)

I am a fan of Tsutomu Nihei's works, thus my review might slightly be biased.
Also I can easily say that Blame! is my favourite cyberpunk manga to date which makes most of the similarities in Biomega all the more enjoyable for me.
The protag-kun Zouchi is a synthetic human, meaning like Killy he can take quite the beating and do some badass shit.
And I will be 100% honest and tell that, Biomega's action scenes are nothing short of GLORIOUS. They are a lot easier to follow, more impactful and contrary to Blame! you can see what's going on (Of course I'm exaggerating, I love Blame!'s
...
fight scenes all the same)
Biomega's characters are all so entertaining and loveable (For villains it's not as much, their characters are not fully fleshed out) though you won't get too attached to them (maybe only a few like the cute as hell AI Fuyu) because Biomega was cut short for it's story. Zouchi is a synthetic human being capable of living for hundreds of years and the adventures are vast (Trivia: Blame!'s protagonist synthetic human Killy was alive for more than 3000+ years, no wonder the guy doesn't talk much). So If Nihei-sensei wanted he could easily turn Biomega into a 300+ chapter manga series with ample amount of content to fill the chapters to the brim. But with less than a hundred chapters it sometimes feels rushed and disconnected also not giving some characters enough spotlight when they could easily become fan favorites.
Biomega is a great manga series that I would recommend to any fan of seinen-action genre. Even though it had so much more potential to make it a rival for Blame! It still uses enough of it to make it a memorable read.
BUT ! Biomega has 1 major thing that lacks that is soooooo disappointing to me. It doesn't have a proper wiki page... For Nihei-sensei's works you ALWAYS need wiki. Not gonna lie dude for Blame! I read the entire wiki to really understand the whole thing. And for Sidonia no Kishi it also helped. For Biomega it's not as necessary but it still would be appreciated... Someone get on that.. Thanks.

Koe no Katachi is the story of retribution. A path of overcoming regrets, accepting the past, facing your sins and changing for the better.
A story of friendship, both making new, and destroying some.
But most of all it's a story about FORGIVING, most importantly yourself.
Forgiving one for their sins is a hard thing to do. But it gets even harder if you are the one to commit those sins. Remorse is a powerful feeling, a feeling that's not fickle like most others. It can stick to one's heart for as long as a person lives. Torturing them daily. Most feelings can be dealt with
...
many means, remorse can only be cured if one faces the source, faces and accepts it.
This movie was about such acceptance, for all the characters.
So let me stop philosophizing and actually talk about the movie itself.
The movie is very heavy, emotions wise, I don't think I stopped stressing and worrying through out the whole movie. And it left me emotionally spent. But it makes it apparent how much invested it made me to the hero and the heroine.
Though I feel like most of the side characters were left not really getting delved into. So the connections between the characters is kinda weak but thats only to be expected. It's a two hour movie, if you are going to focus on the protagonist's self loathing that doesn't leave much time to focus on the side characters. But I still think the time could have been used better.
But let me praise the movie for it's outstanding symbolism of the protagonist's feelings and great camera angles. Also soundtracks.... I love the soundtracks. The story itself is absolutely magnificent, very meaningful and bittersweet. I only lament because the romance aspect of the show was very weak and left undone. But that doesn't mean the show couldn't handle interpersonal connections well. Oh no no, on the contrary I'm amazed how realistic and meaningful the characters were acting. I also JUST LOOOOOVE THE CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN CHARACTERS. It just touches me in just the righ places (hue).
All in all it's a show that I will recommend anyone to watch if they want some super real bitter sweet slice of life story. Ah I'm spent, the movie made me feel too much I can't handle it aaah. I love the movie but I'm never gonna watch it again. Why you ask ?... Well it sucks my soul out.

This is probably the only anime that got 10/10 on every category for me. I can't tell you how much I love this anime, words wouldn't be enough, if I tried to turn my enjoyment into a sound it would be the sound of a primal beast at a mating season. Something like "UUAAARRUUUUHH URURURUR HAAAA" sounds like a chimp right ? Studio Shaft is being shaft again making this amaaaaazing anime, seriously shaft you are too perfect.
I'm not gonna lie (in april :P) this is not for everyone, if you are a younger viewer and you haven't had your fair share of traumas and
...
the loss of a loved one (I hope you never do but life is rarely goes so easy on people, you will probably experience a regret or loss or both that when you remember it your blood and body freeze, for me it was the death of people and pets you love one after the other in a short amount of time, it was like Grim Reaper decided to hang around me but I digress) you might not really understand the main character or the overall feelings of the characters. Or if you have an energetic personality and don't like long conversations you will not enjoy this anime to the fullest. This anime is like reading a very very good book. You need to be patient and calm to enjoy its full potential.
If you didn't like the anime now, try rewatching it after a couple of years, when you think you became patient and calm enough to enjoy a cup of tea while looking at a nice view without twitching. Then I bet my cards you will enjoy this anime more than most things you thought were the best.

Lets be honest the plot was original enough to have a lot of good potential. A single father who is a math teacher. Trying to get over the sadness of losing his wife while trying to take care of his child. Sounds great doesn't it ?
Well it did. But then it became a cooking show... Yeah f*ck all the quality drama and tragedy that could have been the main focus we should instead focus on a father that tries to cook for his daughter with his student helping him. Oh jolly !
I wouldn't be this salty if the cooking was implemented nicely to the story
...
while still retaining it's original slice of lifey feeling. But cooking is like a bored and horny old man that tries exhibitionism for the first time. It's just a sorry and revolting sight. If I wanted to watch a cooking show I would. But this anime is so poorly written except it's setting that it can't progress the story and cooking at the same time. So it just goes with cooking that repeats episode after episode. If you want a cooking anime go watch Shougeki no soma that still can progress the story instead of repeating episode after episode. I can't even watch this anime for their seiyuus like Rina Endou and her adorable voice (Hina from barakamon)
