Amrita no Kyouen, also known as The Feast of Amrita, is terrible and you shouldn't watch it. The only good thing about this anime is the duration: instead of a full length movie you'll get "only" 47 minutes of bad animation and poorly written nonsense which of course is still a painfully long time anyway.
If you like character development you'd better forget about it because there is none, and this is probably the most forgivable aspect since the anime is quite short, but it's also due to the nature of this movie which is basically a plotless sequence of surreal and gory deaths. To
...
be clear, horror is a respectable genre and there is nothing wrong in making it a little bit more sophisticated, but this is not the case. This is technically a prequel to another movie but nothing in this makes sense and nothing is explained. The authors probably wanted to generate some kind of anxiety or suspense in the viewer but they failed because the anime doesn't make it. It's just bland and boring.
Visually it's not bad, the art style is ok and the setting is uncanny enough for a horror anime. On the other hand, animation is very choppy and the characters move like in a laggy, low fps videogame.
In conclusion Amrita no Kyouen is definitely not worth watching: there are plenty of anime which somehow manage to be bad in a funny way and still can provide a good laughter, but this one is not even suitable to be "so bad it's good" material. It's just bad.

Here's an anime you can ignore. It's weak and boring, it lacks action (yeah there is some, but it's quite lame), the plot is nothing special and the main character is a cheap Rambo knock-off, but not as cool and without the charisma of his genuine counterpart. So yes, basically the only things he shares with Rambo are the physical appearance, the attire and being a former special forces military guy.
Animation is quite choppy, art is ok on par with other obscure OVAs from the 80s/90s, characters are mostly flat and the soundtrack doesn't shine; there's really nothing in this OVA that makes it
...
worth watching. I can't recommend it because you probably won't enjoy it, it's not good by any means but it's not awful enough to fall into the "so bad it's good" category. I've seen a lot of terrible anime that provided some genuine laughs because they were so poorly made to become fun, but this is not the case. It's just a barely acceptable OVA with little to nothing to offer.

I tried to write a decent review for this OVA countless times, but I failed every single one. This anime is so nonsense that I came to the conclusion it's impossible to review it. You just can't, that's it. I mean, this isn't the worst thing I've ever see because at least the animation and character design are acceptable, but the plot is... there is no plot, period. There are a bunch of weird things happening and none of them makes any sense. I just watched it and I can't summarize it because nothing is clear nor linear, I'm so confused that I don't even
...
know what did I just watch.
This anime is bad, but in a weird way; I surely recommend it because it will let you live a new experience, throwing you into an abyss of despair, confusion and nonsense, and leaving you crying and curled up in the fetal position on the floor, naked and trembling. At least that's what happened to me. Help.

If you're aware of the existence of this OVA, chances are you're into obscure anime from the 80s/90s. That kind of stuff is like a Russian roulette: you can find hidden gems, but there are plenty of mediocre, bad or terrible ones. This is a terrible one.
They probably wasted all their budget in the intro, which has a catchy song and is the best thing you will see if you watch Dragon Fist.
The plot is rushed and barely makes any sense. The main character is a weird Chinese dragon-guy, son of a powerful clan leader, who is too weak to become the next
...
clan leader so is sent to Japan to become stronger. From now on, this part is never referred to again in the story, and it's totally useless: the plot would've been the same even if the hero was a regular dude. While living in Japan he stumbles across a villain who is a high-school student but also has a laboratory where he clones people and genetically enhances his henchmen. Yep, nothing weird here. After some disappointing battles and some sad moments the bad guy is defeated and the OVA ends with the hero sadly looking at the sky with the ending song playing in the background. The whole clones thing has nothing to do with his mission in Japan and we will never know if he became strong enough to be the next clan leader. Maybe it is intentional and that part was a MacGuffin, or maybe the plot is just too rushed and poorly developed to explain it. I haven't read the manga so I don't know if this is the result of a bad adaptation.
The bad plot isn't the only problem here. The animation is really low quality, the characters move like they are in a videogame that runs at 5 frames per second. There is no room for character development but that's expected given the short duration of this OVA. Character design is ok (it's made by Shingo Araki, a quite famous designer), the opening song is not bad, and that's it. The important things just don't work, everything is bad or lame and could have been made better with just a little more effort (and money).
In general there is an audience for every type of anime, even the really obscure ones like this. But Dragon Fist is so bad that I really can't find a category of people who could enjoy it, and I don't know who to recommend it to. Maybe you can give it a try if you are with friends, have some time to waste and want a good laugh, otherwise you can just ignore it. Of course I've seen worse anime than this one, but this is not enough to save it from a 3 out of 10.

I genuinely don’t understand why does this anime have such a low score and such a small community (at the moment of writing this review, the score is 5,83 based on 465 votes only), and I think it deserves a little more than this. Let’s be clear, this is not an all-time classic nor an unforgettable mastepiece by any means, but it’s definitely not a bad one. It’s quite good actually and I’ve seen more obscure ones having a bigger community. Apparently this isn’t well known despite being related to a famous videogame franchise.
It is the adaptation of a 1986 Konami game by the
...
same name which is related to the Gradius series. To be fair I admit I haven’t played any of them so I don’t know if the anime is loyal to the plot and to the setting of the story told in the game, but since both Gradius and Salamander are horizontal shooters set in space (and from the ‘80s...) I assume there isn’t much plot, and it would make sense if the writer took some liberties. Anyway, a previous knowledge of the game isn’t required to understand the plot so you can watch it even if you haven’t played the game.
The plot has already been summarized in the synopsis section of this page and there isn’t much to add, except the fact that it’s quite generic but not overly simple. It just works, it doesn’t have plot holes and the length of the episodes (50 minutes) gives enough time for development. Maybe it’s not much but there are tons of low quality obscure OVAs from the 80s and the 90s with plots so rushed they don’t even make sense, or barely do. There isn’t much room for character development but you can’t expect it given the limited duration. The quality of art and animation is what you would expect from an average oldschool OVA: it’s nothing special but still much better than many other anime out there. I personally don’t mind this style of aesthetics. A little sidenote: the character designer is Haruhiko Mikimoto, who worked at several Gundam and Macross anime (and other sci-fi anime as well).
The soundtrack is ok too, and the ending credits song is actually quite catchy.
In conclusion, Salamander is an overall enjoyable anime. You can certainly miss it, but watching it won’t be a total waste of time. I watched a lot of terrible, generic, poorly animated and designed, almost unknown OVAs from the ‘80s-’90s and maybe my standards have become too low, making me appreciate an average one as if it was good, but I think this is at least decent. I recommend watching it if you are a big fan of the game but you can give it a try if you love sci-fi anime in general, expecially those from that era.

Oh boy, this anime is a somehow cool one, but it's cool in a weird way.
First of all, despite the similar title it has *nothing* to do with the more famous Battle Royale manga. It involves a high school student, demons from another dimension, horror and sci-fi elements all mashed up. Woah.
The OVA is full of clichés: the main character, a "regular" high school kid, is a super skilled fighter with a bodybuilder's muscles, looks like a Tiger Mask knock-off, and kicks ass because he wants to be the strongest one in the world. Yep, clearly the average Japanese teenager.
So far, nothing too
...
weird. But then a dude in a flamboyant armour shows up: he's the ruler of a dark realm and counterpart of the protagonist, and he's apparently the main villain. Then two more random guys pop out: one is a demon slayer, the other one is some kind of inspector who protects the world from supernatural threats, and of course he lives in a sci-fi spaceship. With Star Trek-like teleport.
A few fights later we learn that the villain is actually victim of treason by his former follower, a "Fairy" master, who summons creepy demons capable of possessing people and turning them into piles of Cronenberg-style transforming organic matter. This new villain was almost unseen until now and nobody would ever suspect it was even a relevant character. The demon slayer and the evil guy who partially controls the body of the kid with the leopard mask agree to delay their fight while the interdimensional space cop does absolutely nothing.
The fairies keep making troubles, including a giant possessed teddy bear; this new abomination is defeated by the space-time inspector with a badass disappearing armour. The fairy summoner tries to team up with the demon slayer to kill her former master, but when he refuses she manages to take control over him. Another fight with the Power Ranger on steroids, who now has a lightsaber (isn't he tired of ripping off stuff from big sci-fi franchises?), more monsters, more weirdness, and then the final fight between the good guy who is controlled by the bad guy and the good guy who is possessed by the other bad one... I know, it sounds confusing but it will be easier if you watch the OVA. The ending is quite pointless: the ruler of the Dark Realm, who still planned to conquer the world after killing the Fairy Master, just disappears and the kid is freed, so he can keep cosplaying King from Tekken; the space cop who was apparently beaten to death is fine and doesn't even remember all the fighting; the Fairy Master is killed, and the demon slayer whose body she was controlling dies with her. That's it, no further explanation.
This anime is nothing special; it's not terrible, but it's not really good either. The plot is a little messy and sometimes feels rushed, animation isn't super smooth but I've seen much worse, character design is ok. Wacthing it feels like watching something you already know because it's an average, almost stereotypical fantasy/horror/sci-fi OVA with demons and superpowers. Recommended if you're into obscure OVAs from the 80s and 90s, if you like teenager characters fighting against supernatural creatures, school girls screaming "SENPAAAAI" and monsters who would fit well in Yoshiaki Kawajiri's "Wicked City"; in that case you will probably find this cheesy, but still enjoyable and fun to watch. Otherwise you can skip it.

I watched this OVA on YouTube. The video had a terrible 240p resolution and the subtitles were the most retarded Engrish subs ever made, making sometimes impossible to follow the dialogues due to the barely understandable/nonsense translation. This made the whole experience quite painful, seriously limiting the overall enjoyment, but the anime is decent.
Rokudenashi Blues is just another obscure and hard to find OVA from the early 90s. It's nothing special: very short and with a simple plot, it features some classic high school gang-related violence.
There isn't much room for character or plot development because the OVA is about 30 minutes long. Art
...
and animation are fair enough for an anime from the early 90s. The overall enjoyment is enough for this anime to be worth watching.
Recommended if you're into minor and obscure OVAs, if you like the 80s/90s style animation and/or if you want to watch something entertaining but you don't want to start a TV series or a long movie.

If you're looking for a long, detailed in-depth review this one isn't for you because there isn't much to say about this OVA besides the fact it's just a bad anime, and a VERY bad one.
The plot is extremely confusing: a lot of things happen but many of them are unexplained or barely developed, and most of them don't make any sense. The first 15-20 minutes are somewhat acceptable because it may look as an interesting adventure/mystery story with mystical elements, but then the remaining 70 minutes of nonsense come in like a train.
Visuals are nothing special, with mediocre sketches and character design and
...
below average animation.
Oh, and God is depicted as a weird caterpillar who floats in the air inside a giant spaceship, talks like Alvin and the Chipmunks, and dies miserably just like a bug when he gets slammed against the walls of the ship during a battle fought between Soviet and American jet fighters in the skies above it.
I strongly suggest you avoiding this anime unless you want to watch it to laugh at it with friends, just as I did. In that case it provides a good amount of fun.

If you're into sci-fi/mecha-related anime from the 80s chances are you are aware of the existence of Five Star Stories and you're probably wondering whether to watch it or not.
This will be a fairly short review wherewith I will try to answer this question. For those of you who don't have time nor patience to read the full review, here's a short answer: no, just don't. For the rest of you, here's why you should avoid this anime and save 1 hour of your life that can be spent in so many better ways.
There isn't much to say, actually. The story is a complete
...
mess: a weak and rushed plot that explains almost nothing (and the few things that are explained are confused and not well developed) is a bad thing on its own, but if you add no character development at all... well, you have a bad anime. And that's what it is: not horrible, not trash, it's just a bad anime that isn't worh to be watched.
Interesting mecha and ship design and decent animation aren't enough to save it from a 4 out of 10, and the character design is weird. This anime offers no enjoyment so don't even bother and just ignore it.

Have you ever heard or read about this anime? No? Well, me neither until I randomly found it in the recommended videos section on YouTube. It's a very obscure OVA from 1996 based on a possibly even more obscure manga by the same author of the more known Riki-Oh. Oddly enough, I found it dubbed and the dubbing was good quality with well known and top notch voice actors.
It's made by the famous J.C. Staff, a very renowned animation studio with plenty of resources, so the art and animation (which are in full 1990s style) are good. Character design is cool and the sketches
...
of New York City, where the story is set, are realistic and detailed.
The plot is quite simple but it works just fine for a 45 minutes OVA: it's a crime story. The main character, Kenji Hado, is a Japanese bounty hunter living in NYC who struggles every day to earn some money and get by. One day he steps into an apparently easy case that will lead him into serious trubles.
There isn't much character development but you can't expect it anyway from a short anime. By the way "not much" is still better than nothing.
Bounty Hunter: The Hard is an enjoyable, easy to watch anime which can still entertain you even if you don't have great expectations, and this made me think it deserved a solid 7 out of 10 overall.
