"I get it now."
- Danny DeVito
Prior to this anime, I did not understand the appeal of brainrot humor. Most of my friend group was starting to use the funny "skibidi" words when this was released, and this anime helped me embrace the language. The anime is set up to brainwash you into using brainrot language, but it may also be a psyop to get people interested in Japan's deer tourism. However, that is not the point of this review.
The point of this review is for me to say that this anime makes me say "erm, what the sigma" at every punchline. The pop culture references
...
make me say "erm, what the sigma". The character play makes me say "erm, what the sigma". The intro makes me go "erm, what the sigma".
In conclusion, "erm, what the shika".
Anime of the year.

With new Monogatari content on the horizon, I decided that it would be a good time to rewatch the entirety of the series.
First things first, the gag: it's hard watching this anime in a post-Drake v. Kendrick world.
Yep, that's the running gag I had while rewatching this.
Bakemonogatari is a decent start for the series. Cinematography: the most notable ones are extreme close-ups (including head tilts) and panning shots. In addition, how an episode plays can be quite chaotic; captions flashing to give information or to give dramatic effect for a scene. Character play: characters play off each other, creating unique interactions that can either
...
elevate or relieve the mood. Themes: the overarching theme of the show is how "you can only save yourself" when facing problems, that is, having intervention from a third party will only solve it temporarily. It is the individual's responsibility to confront their problems and reconcile with them. With each character having a different problem e.g. envy about others, stress about life, choosing the easy way out, watching the theme play out, and how it changes the characters, is compelling.
Despite the praise I give for this show, Bakemonogatari suffers from three problems: one, Bakemonogatari does not explore its characters as thoroughly as Monogatari season two or final season. As a result, some characters may feel underdeveloped due to having an unsatisfactory solution to their problem e.g. Nadeko Snake. Two, Monogatari is dialogue-heavy, and this doesn't improve with the latter seasons. Three, the fanservice is problematic; the fanservice possesses lolicon content. Mayoi Snail or Nadeko Snake demonstrate this. In Gen Z brainrot terms, it's like Drake and his ghost writers made this story. This gets worse as the series goes on as it is used as a running gag e.g. Araragi-Mayoi greeting.
Monogatari is a series that I want to recommend because I liked the themes, music (Bake's ED slaps), and cinematography in the show. However, the problematic content present within the show makes me think twice about wholeheartedly recommending it. Skip them. They don't contribute to the plot. To end off on a high-note, I was quite lucky to get into Kendrick Lamar recently due to the rap beef. It's fun, especially when you can recite lyrics in response to things you hate, in this case, the lolicon content.
Here's a quick summary of each arc in Bakemonogatari:
Hitagi Crab: Yo, these edibles ain't- Woah..
Mayoi Snail: Pst... I see dead people.
Suruga Monkey: Sorry, I love Emilia.
Nadeko Snake: And Baka's got a weird case, why is he around? Certified loverboy? Certified pe-
Tsubasa Cat: Sorry, I love Emilia 2: Electric Boogaloo.

"What if instead of Delicious in Dungeon, it was called Freak in Dungeon. Instead of eating delicious meals, they ate delicious co-"
- Me
Delicious in Dungeon is a comfy anime. The art style was great, in fact, it matches the art style of the anime. The story was fun to follow, worldbuilidng and motivations were well established. The characters played off each other, contributing to the comedic or dramatic moods of the scene. The pacing was great, the end of the season left me wanting more from the story. The food looked delicious, though that's expected of a food anime.
This is a petty criticism, but I
...
am unsure how to feel about the overall mood of the anime; the anime feels too loosey-goosey for the serious plot it introduces in the first episode and the "second act". This is the only real criticism I have for the anime, and I plan to keep track of the manga to see where it goes.
In regards to the quote I made, the running gag I had while watching the anime was how the main character was an actual freak; the main character is obsessed with monsters- the best being trivia and the worst being down bad. While not intruding on the entire anime, it still occurred enough where I kept making freak jokes.

Ladies and gentlemen, the most romance manga of all time.
Did you like Takagi-san? Did you like Nagatoro? Did you watching unskippable ads? Do you have no respect for your time? Fear not, this is the manga for you!
KanoKari is a manga, it's not a good manga, but it is one regardless. I spent WAY too much time trying to find this manga appealing (I really tried during the "Hollywood" Arc- this is the name I gave it) only for it to kill itself in the most creative way possible, that is, chapter 218. Chapter 218 was the lowest point of this manga, and it only
...
got lower from there. For perspective, during this time, Love is War was still running, and I believe that chapter 220 dropped, which in contrast, was the equivalent to dropping a nuclear bombshell on the community. Anyway, enough of my rant, let's actually talk about the manga.
KanoKari does not respect your time, and it definitely does not respect your intelligence. Most chapters can be summarized like this: Kazuya simps over Chizuru, Chizuru says some nonchalant one-liner, Kazuya simps even harder, and no progression happens at all. There was meme that encapsulated this perfectly. This has gone on for as long as the manga has been made.
The manga feels like an elaborate ad, that is, it is cringe, it is a scam, but most importantly, it cannot be skipped. The best part is that you can't read this manga without an adblocker. Because all of it will be detected and deleted by my adblocker.
I think getting a computer virus is more productive than reading this manga. I even think getting scammed out of your credit card is more productive than reading this manga, because at least you learn a lesson in what not to do as well as steps to prevent yourself from finding this situation again.

My Little Monster, not to be confused with My Little Pony, is one of the many additions to the "Want a break from the ads" genre for rom-com. I bring this up because a majority of modern romance anime, including but not limited to: Nagatoro, KanoKari, Love is War, Takagi-san, and so on, has a tendency to not respect my time and harass me with endless amount of ads that end up padding the run-time of the series. Simply put, I do not have the time nor the interest to watch 2+ seasons of endless flirting filled with a snail's pace-progression just to end
...
at a confession and hand-holding. Watching My Little Monster, after countless hours of ad-ridden brainrot, was quite refreshing. The pacing felt quite nice, with the exception of the latter episodes becoming weird (and like always, the best solution is to blame everyone but the main character). The morale of the story: do not watch anime without consulting your ad-blocker, because 9 times out of 10, your anime will be filled with ads that cripple the progression of the story.

Unlike my review for season 1, I noticed the romantic tones for from this season because it was crammed down by throat by this guy named Marty (the person I watched said their name was Amati, but couldn't be bothered to remember this name. In fact, I had to search it up because I thought it was spelled "Amarty". As you can tell, I was extremely braindead watching this series) as well as other hints of love triangles/squares/pentagons/hexagons that were incredibly difficult for me to ignore. Of course, there were also sections that discussed about economics. The lesson I learned from these segments either revolved
...
around the concept of "buy low, sell high" or high levels of fraud. I feel as though the last episodes are where the season was lacking; it felt rushed and unfinished as a result. In fact, there is not a good conclusion to the arc that was the last 2-3 episodes. It was quite disappointing that this is not the case, because now I have to invest time into watching the remake instead of doing what I want to do: play Helldivers 2 as well as consume more manga. Here is the lesson of today's story, kids: the reason why you forget about the anime you've watched is because you preoccupied yourself with a vidya gaem. In addition, the reason you remember the anime is because of that game. Remember, buy low, sell high.

My watch of Spice and Wolf occurred after finishing exams. My brain is rotted, and it showed during the duration of me watching this anime. When I learned that the main heroine was a wolf, I kept making jokes about "there are two wolves inside of you", and so kept spamming either the brainaneurysm.mp3 sound effect or some random gigachad theme. There were times where I talked about Holo being either locked in or tweaking because of this joke. Aside from this, there were the serious sections that talked about economics, and these sections were easy to watch because I watched with someone who was
...
financially literate, unlike me who has zero clue what a bank loan means. This anime was pretty good, and maybe it was because I watched this in a lobotomized state, but I could barely tell you why this anime had the romance tag. If anything, I learnt more economics from this anime than I have from school, that is, I learned one or two things compared to learning absolutely nothing. Yeah, this is a recommend, but you could also just watch some crash course video on economics or browse your local social media about the latest cryptocurrency scam that you could invest into if you wanted to learn about economics.
