Alright, I cannot remember when exactly I'd started watching this anime, but it wasn't very long ago. I started watching it right after finished Gargantia (which is a great anime by the way and I highly recommend checking it out!). I've gotten into a sort of wanting to watch mech anime recently and after watching Gargantia, I was looking for something similar. And thus, I found Aldnoah.Zero.
Now, I watched this on Netflix and right off the bat loved the cast. From
...
the guy who voices King in Seven Deadly Sins and Arima in Your Lie In April to other Your Lie in April voice actors, the cast is very well done, including the guy who does Masaomi in Durarara!!. I give the show a point for that, considering before Gargantia I was watching YLiA.
Now, onto Aldnoah itself. The premise is alright, in a way. It's kind of boring and the fact that the people never get any better tech kinda sucks. You're fighting against people from space so what do you do? Use the same old mechs that all look the same and are easy to blow up. Yeah, that sounds safe.
The whole war is at first thought to be caused by the assassination of the princess of VERS, Asalem. I really wish there would have been more backstory for her. There was some, but not nearly enough to make her likeable, same with the other character, the main especially. He had no development whatsoever nor emotions. It was kind of difficult to care about a character that you can't tell how they're feeling and they just look like a wannabe soldier.
Other than that, another issue of mine with the show was in a way, the soundtrack. Yes, music is nice and adds drama. But if you have to add music to fight scenes just to make them 'more dramatic' then you're failing. Not to mention the music didn't really change much, it all stayed very much consistent. Some variation would have been nice, at least.
In all, Aldnoah.Zero was an okay anime and average if anything. It failed at a lot of things and I'm not even going to bother with the second season because I don't feel it's worth the time or effort. For a 12 episode season that seemed easy, it sure felt like it took forever to trudge through.
That's all for now, thanks for reading!
Until next time.
