Yeah, Dororo was an unexpectedly excellent show for me. As a simple anime watcher what inspires me most about an anime is the "emotional experience" that it presents. And guess what? The way Dororo presenting this was awfully nice! It was both brutal and pure, both tragic and heartwarming. Amazing art and sound direction are just spicing up the excellence. Rather terrific show!
As I said experience is the priority for me in a show but there is one more thing that I don't look for in every anime yet I would really appreciate as a bonus: A concept that pushes viewers into thinking. In other
...
ways, we can call it some "philosophy" stuff?
Now, I am not an exact philosophy reader or something but you know, it's nice to think over such things. And as a sci-fi movie lover, I am totally satisfied with "transhumanism" and the way it leads to "What exactly is becoming a human?" and "What makes humans a 'human'? ". Now, even if it does not lead to our exact question this is originally an old question. (Not gonna use an all review section to explain it. [see. Ship of Theseus]) That prepossessed the humans for long years. But even if I love to think about it (love the idea or not, I think everyone should, at least for once, think over it!) honestly I never thought about what could be "older" ways of thinking on it. Like, okay the ship metaphor is nice. But we are thinking about a human! That has feelings and a spiritual part instead of its material part. (And here comes the "existentialism" and consummates this "ship" thing to show us the way to find 'human'!)
And yeah, Dororo's answer to this question of mine that I never thought over was FABULOUS! Hyakkimaru is an awesome character both to push you to think over it and on the other hand, give you the answers of it! An amazing metaphor of existentialism I could never think of.
I know this review has already reached the "nerdy" level so I will cut the remaining short but speaking of existentialism can not skip character development. Dororo's structure is kind of episodic but it always sticks to the main story. In all these different episodes and stories, mostly, Hyakkimaru develops in any way you could think of what makes humans a "human". While the story continues he gains more of himself. He little by little develops from a fighting mannequin to a “human”! Dororo is a well-structured, truly fascinating show!
LONG STORY SHORT: Dororo is an awesome show which presents the strict philosophy of being human with such a cool Japanese dark fantasy world. A “must watch” anime show!

I will give you a hint: Trust me, this show asks you the questions really carefully and rather perfectly. The rest is yours. Rewatch, render the show correctly, and rethink…
Have a nice day!
