Just a note: I have not watched any other anime or manga related to this series. I had no information about this series excluding what I saw on Netflix.
Story:
I thought the concept was very interesting initially. I thought there was a lot of possibilities and ideas to explore. I felt that many of the ideas were only explored in a rushed and shallow manner. They had a few info dumps that hardly explained anything and almost every episode I had more and more unanswered questions. Many episodes were left on forced "cliffhangers" and would sometimes even be resolved in the next episode.
One
...
thing it does do well, though, is display its brutality and sexuality very clearly and openly.
Animation:
The art was the best part of the show for me. Though it might not be for everyone, it's very unique and stylish. The colours were very pretty. Because it's drawn in this way, I felt that it could get away with animation errors without them being to glaring.
Sound:
Though I enjoyed both the ending and opening, I didn't notice anything memorable during the actual show.
Characters:
I really disliked this aspect of the show. Many characters only had singular traits. It was also difficult to understand why they did things, because the way they acted wasn't consistent. Many characters were only briefly shown, and then had a few minutes of development before quickly dying. I had no connection or sympathy for any characters because they were all so black and white, or shown in a "You're supposed to like this character/not this one" that I couldn't bring myself to like anyone.
Lots of the characters could be completely explained by saying "He's nice, she's nice, he's evil, he's religious," and you wouldn't be missing anything about their character.
Other
Because I watched the dub, this might not apply to the sub, but SO many lines were painfully cringy. There were many moments/scenes like this as well, so it's probably not a problem with the sub.
----
I feel like a majority of the reviews I've read mention the original material. Maybe it is better if you've read the source, but I just found it laughable/confusing. Wouldn't really recommend to anyone.

This is honestly one of the worst things I've ever read. A youtuber I like recommended it, so I read it in a few hours.
Story
It starts out interesting, but quickly just turn into nonsense. There is no real objective besides surviving, then suddenly at the very end there is an info dump with a very unsatisfying ending.
Art
The art was really good, and one of the only things that I actually liked. It was slightly cutesy, which I thought was a good contrast to the situation. I also liked that they didn't add pointless fanservice, even though they could have at times.
Characters
The worst part.
...
The first few deaths are mildly sympathetic, but as soon as they understand that the game is real, everyone turns black or white. They don't act like they want to survive, and will do things very unrealistically. The characters that do seem to want to live always are portrayed as evil, so it isn't sad when they die and those portrayed as "good" just sacrifice themselves. None of the characters are given any backstory or development, so we don't know anything until they die. After that, there are always like 10 pages with the main character brooding over them, even when they acted completely evil or stupid.
----
In conclusion, I really didn't enjoy this. I had a similar feeling when I finished the Another anime and the Battle Royal manga, so if you enjoy those, you might like this. It did have an interesting premise, but that's about it. Perhaps the book is better?

==Story==
91 Day's story was a genuine surprise for me. Going in, I was initially interested in watching it because I've always enjoyed more serious anime. The first episode had me hooked from the get go, but I'm actually happy that it strayed from its initial path. As I generally enjoy Mafia movies, I went in thinking that it would be your run of the mill revenge story where the good guy gets revenge on those who did him wrong. This premise is still a major theme in a majority of the episodes, but the characters developments change it into more of a tragedy. Though I
...
won't spoil anything, the ending was amazingly satisfying and changed it into one of my favourite anime.
==Art==
The art of 91 Days was probably its least strong category. Though the art was good for the most part, some episodes had very obvious animation problems, like characters being drawn poorly or some characters not walking properly.
In line with its subject matter, the art seems to be taken seriously. The characters never turn into chibis or do anything physically impossible. The art style is kept consistent throughout. The serious mood is prevalent in the art and was very fitting for the story.
The characters were designed well and suited everyone's personality. Taking place in the late 1920's, everyone looked like they belonged and no one looked like they couldn't be sketches of people from that time period. Nonetheless, everyone had a very unique design, making it easy to tell apart each character in this large cast.
==Sound==
The seiyuus for 91 Days were pretty good. There wasn't any lackluster performances but there were characters that stood out. Fango's voice actor, Kenjirou Tsuda, was absolutely perfect at conveying Fango's crazy ruthlessness. The way he inflects his voice is extremely fitting and conveyed him in a way that was very strange but not too over the top. Takashi Kondou portrayed Avilio's emotions very well, which I'm sure wasn't easy and Takuya Eguchi as Nero was terrific at portraying Nero as both playful and serious when it was needed.
Though the dub is still airing, it does offer a perhaps more immersive feel for American viewers as they have given each character an accent. Though this wasn't present in the Japanese version besides on instance, the characters do sometimes speak in strings of Italian. Though it isn't personally my cup of tea, I could see how it would make some viewers more involved and familiar with the characters. Though this might be unfair, as I'm comparing it to the Japanese version, Brandon Potter as Fango was very different. He no longer conveys his craziness and now just has an American accent.
Finally, if I'm going to be honest, the in-show music didn't really stand out for me. I have never really paid much attention to music in anime, but, overall, I guess I would just describe it as mediocre.
The opening was terrific in showing Angelo's feelings towards his family's death and the bitterness he feels going forward without them. The singer's, who also sang the opening to Tokyo Ghoul, voice was very powerful. Even though it was very fitting for 91 Days, I could easily see someone who hasn't watched the show enjoying the song.
The ending actually doesn't have any real words, it's still very soulful and seems like something that would be playing at a nightclub in the 1930's. Each ending is slightly different. I think it actually makes the scene much more emotional during the more sad episode endings.
==Character==
My favourite thing about 91 Days was the characters. Though we have so little time with each character, the still express their personality and feelings easily. In 91 Days, we actually never hear the thought of a character unless they're expressed outloud. Each main character and many of the side characters go through development throughout. Going in, all we know is what Avilio does; the Vanetti's are evil and they deserve to be killed. As we go through though we get to see Avilio change as he ruthlessly takes his revenge while pretending to be their ally. We also see sympathetic sides of the Mafia family. None of the characters are black and white and each character has realistic and though-provoking feelings. The foiling of the two main characters, Angelo (also called Avilio) and Nero, are extremely interesting and its very interesting how they grow as they are thrust into difficult situations.
==Enjoyment==
I guess, to sum it up, I just want to say that I LOVED this anime. Every episode seemed to go by so fast and I truly wish 91 Days was longer. Though I know that there are many other animes that do this, I loved how everything isn't spelled out for us and that the same information isn't gone over a million times. As there aren't any anime cliches, I feel this would be great for anyone just getting into anime or who might not even typically enjoy it. Re watching it, there are still things that I didn't initially notice about the characters and I would absolutely watch it again. Even weeks after finishing it, I still miss it and go back and watch it. So many twists were clever and though-provoking.
In general, I'd most likely describe it as "fresh." I loved that it averted so many tropes in both Mafia themed shows and anime. I know that it isn't as well known, but I really hope that people continue to watch and enjoy 91 Days and that it inspires creators to make more similarly serious anime.
