Ousama Game

A test of survival that includes many deaths and a LOT of gory scenes. Albeit Ousama Game starting as a game and Innocent W as a hunt, they both end up having to fight for a chance to live and even friends turn on their own friends. Both works are not realistic at all when it comes to human relationships or just character writing, but offer that kind of senseless violence and edgy fanservice which serve fine if you are in that mood. Innocent W is probably the worse one of the two as things progress too fast and almost every character is crazier than the other, but if it is creative violence you're looking for with some mystery plot, both serve that purpose.

Time travel! Of sorts. Present, past and future are 3 realities that get tangled in both these works involving high school friends. In Orange this happens through future letters, while in Ano Natsu they wake up during their high school days and as it happens, it comes down to mostly one person. Not only that, but both groups of friends have their secrets and misunderstandings that they try to fix, yet the consequences of their actions are heavy on their mind. The explanation of time tampering is different, yet equally illogical in the sense that this heavily relies in random powers of the universe, however their true difference is the ending goal. While Orange is more subdued and contains relatable drama, Ano Natsu takes it a notch higher and goes a bit out control with the twists and the characters' behavior, yet there is drama as well, even if just a bit less effective.

Fairytales! They both handle the same theme, albeit in different ways, yet the goal is similar enough; to gather/seal every fairytale in a book while fending off enemies. The origin stories of the fairytales differ, but they take a dark spin in both works, while in Dokusai Grimoire, they come to life as characters and have their own distinct personality. The true charming point is the characters and their interactions, as they win you over slowly but surely and you cannot help, but like even some of the unlikable bunch. Unfortunately, their other similarity is their abrupt ending. You will not get a satisfying ending in either of them, although Kataribe no List handles it better with enough twists to save its pride. Dokusai Grimoire, on the other hand, is in generally a more simplistic work (yet enjoyable), so the end just comes to an abrupt stop and you are left wondering about the next step to no avail. However, they both offer enough entertainment as to not feel that your time got wasted.

ib: Instant Bullet

Although the premise is not entirely similar, the setting, the development and the plot twists share a substantial resemblance! Mirai Nikki follows the battle royale recipe with a specific number of people trying to be the last (wo)man standing, but ib follows more the good side versus bad recipe, which in this case involves a specific number of people with certain abilities. However, who defines what good or bad is? The works redefine what you thought was right or wrong pretty often. In both cases, the plot holds many surprises for the reader and some are just crazy and over the top, but enjoyable nonetheless. They are character-driven stories, so the more you get to know the characters, the more the story changes with them and although, the main characters are not really similar, many of the characters have crazy personalities to accompany them. The quality of the twists and wacky characters are what truly connects these 2 series, but they are more of a guilty pleasure.

Teen Spirit

Korean music industry is known for being a tough place to succeed in as an idol and that is what the core similarity is between "One" and "Teen Spirit". Both feature a variety of singers struggling to leave their mark on the world, climb that ladder and make the music they want. The focus of each is a bit different, as "One" is much longer and showcases problems newcomers and already established idols have, while "Teen Spirit" focuses on the main character who is only a newcomer and his relationships with the people around him. However, the difficulty of the industry is depicted with a realistic enough approach in both cases as this stifling environment is trying to mold everyone a specific way. Do note that "One" has also romance in it and "Teen Spirit" has been brought to a very abrupt end, which leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

The greatest aspect of their similarities lies in the light summer theme they share. Refreshing, breezy series revolving around water one way or another with personal relationships at the center; a perfect combination for a relaxing time. While Tsuritama is a bit on the sci-fi genre with a few supernatural phenomena, they both include a friendship between a socially awkward person and an extremely energetic, albeit difficult to understand at times, one and how they affect each other. Simple comedy that relies on the characters' interactions on an everyday basis and when it comes to it, a story about growing up and discovering your potential. As a bonus, the art of each is very colorful and captures the essence of summer which makes them even easier to watch.

Kataribe no List

The background of each uses fairytales with Kataribe no List using Grimm's various fairytales as items and Pandora Hearts relying on "Alice in Wonderland" to portray parts of the story. What they have more in common though is that they equally have great comedic scenes and interactions between characters which lightens the mood appropriately even when things are serious. Also, albeit the story in Pandora Hearts is a lot more developed and complicated and deals with more themes, they both include a mystery of sorts with the main protagonist(s) being chased by certain enemies, similar plot twists at every corner and not knowing really which is the right or wrong side in the end. So, for a mix of fantasy, comedy and mystery while giving off the same vibe, both of them would be an easy, enjoyable read.
